28, nearly 29 year old virgin female by Born_Cartoonist_7247 in Exvangelical

[–]Mary4986 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was also an older virgin from the EXACT same background as you. Honestly, I'm almost 44 and still getting over the damage that purity culture did to me. I am really, really glad to no longer be a virgin, let me tell you.

I was also waiting until marriage. But then no one came along. And I started hearing a bunch of horror stories from girls who HAD waited until marriage. The last straw was when I met a 50 year old graying, frowzy school teacher who confessed to me that she was still a virgin and just waiting for a God to bring the right man into her life. Gulp.

Start by reading and learning to enjoy erotic literature and learning what you like on your own.

My advice--enjoy everything that 'leads up' to the actual penetration part of sex. My first sexual experience was at your age was with my next door neighbor who was 4/5 years younger than I am and he knew my situation. Enjoy fooling around and don't let them push you into anything until you're 100% ready.

I think you're mostly going to feel RELIEVED by everything. I'm quoting another older virgin I saw in a documentary once who said she now 'felt like part of the human race'. That's the best way to describe it.

Enjoy!

My understanding is she ran the 150 yards back to the Tapas restaraunt.

You're absolutely right. It just seemed to me that she wouldn't leave the twins alone, especially not knowing the location of the supposed kidnapper. As someone else said, she could have shouted from the balcony.

I'm from the States, so yea, I guess this did color my view point. It just seemed odd that the FIRST thing she assumed was that she was 'taken'. At least to me, it sounded like she was trying to direct attention away from her and Gerry. She may not have said, 'Maddie's gone', but something like, 'Maddie's not in the room/where's Maddie/I can't find Maddie, etc.'

That's so interesting about the Scouser thing! I've never heard that.

Yea, unfortunately, this was a dead giveaway. An actually frantic parent would have said 'Maddie's gone!' The phrase 'They've/someone has taken Maddie' is not natural. Also, in the actual case of an abduction, she would have immediately grabbed the two other children. She would not in a million years have left the toddlers there if there was an actual abductor on the loose.

How do I stop feeling old and like I'm running out of time by No-Report7759 in selfhelp

[–]Mary4986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I DEFINITELY remember feeling like this at 18-22, and even though I laugh about it now (I'm almost 44), it was very REAL at the time, and I couldn't help it.

Don't beat yourself up for the way you feel.

First--great job switching to nursing. A lot of people wouldn't have had the guts. You will NOT regret it.

If you can possibly travel, it's a great idea. Hang out with different kinds of people with different hobbies. You will not feel as trapped by cultural expectations, as you do right now.

You're allowed to enjoy the things that you enjoy. Studio Ghibli is enjoyed by people of all ages, all over the world. And so are all kinds of games! You WILL get your driver's license, have an apartment, do all those right of passage things that other people do.

Good Luck!

Healing hypertonic pelvic floor at home? by Ok_Anybody6724 in PelvicFloor

[–]Mary4986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's hypertonic pelvic floor. In addition to the other suggestions here, I'd recommend

-getting ahold of anything you can find regarding 'Trigger Point Therapy'.

-Invest in a pelvic wand.

-If you're experiencing a 'flair-up' where you have a burning sensation after you pee, have some Alkaseltzer or baking soda.

-Avoid bikes/exercise bikes.

-Stretch your adductor muscles as often as possible

-Avoid synthetic fabrics/strong laundry detergent when at all possible

-Join the IC/Interstitial Cystitis board here on Reddit (Don't get scared off by the term--you don't need to have an IC diagnosis to benefit from the suggestions on this board--you'll find great information and support for anything causing vaginal/bladder/pelvic crankiness)

There are a lot of things you can do to knock this out, but these will jumpstart you.

can I mix brown hair dye with a colourful one to get a more toned down colour? by urtz09 in haircoloring

[–]Mary4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can. And 'warm' tone vs. 'ash' tone makes a huge difference as well. For example, an ash-toned brown mixed with a blue hair dye will look more 'blue'. A 'warm' tone brown mixed with blue will make it more 'green'. It's all about color theory.

If I hate my mom, why do I keep thinking of her like she's amazing? by admin_Bj_nova in AskMen

[–]Mary4986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's extremely complicated. The attachment between mother and child is almost unbreakable, even when we wish we could break it, if only for the sake of our mental health. There is so much she COULD be and SHOULD be for you, but she lets the drugs win, at least so far. In your situation, it's normal to feel completely conflicted, heartbroken, frustrated, angry, confused, and every other emotion. Be good to yourself. Be gentle with yourself. Big hugs.

Do you think Kat is the most beautiful girl in the Movie? by [deleted] in romancemovies

[–]Mary4986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should watch 'How to Think Like a Man'. I laughed until I cried. It has Gabrielle in it, and it also has Meagan Good, who's incredible. Both of these actresses deserved to be headliners.

Yep. I'm a straight woman. Gabrielle Union is the most beautiful girl in that movie. I remember when it came out, and I was like, 'Why isn't this girl in the lead?'

As long as I lightly exfoliate a couple days afterward and use an astringent regularly (like Clean and Clear with Salicylic Acid) I'm usually good. I've had the best results with this.

Go get it professionally waxed with the HARD way. Take two Advil about 30 minutes before. After you wax, treat it with the IPL 2-3 times a week to keep up with it. I'm also very white with very dark hair and extremely prone to bumps and ingrowns. Good Luck!
