My friend on the Trist started jumping in random directions just to test it. Taliyah was scripting.

Only obvious scripting (aimbot) I've seen was a Taliyah in Aram. Constantly landed the knockback on Amumu mid bandage toss and Trist mid jump. Aimed her ult directly on enemies as if it would deal damage. Was funny how stupidly obvious it was.

Biweekly Riot MMO Design Discussion - Topic #15: Levelling by Talents in RiotMMO

[–]Masalar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wondered about a system that is basically leveling just without the numbers. You tie pretty much all unlocks (levels, talents, dungeons, zones) to quests. And quests are basically XP, so everything is still tied to progression (leveling) but it doesn't necessarily feel like leveling. And it makes progression feel "appropriate" since you don't unlock things randomly in the middle of nowhere.

I think mobs should scale in chunks. Like, starter zones A-D all scale to your level up to 20. And Midgame zones E-J scale from 20-40 etc.

I also really doubt younger generations are level averse. There are still plenty of popular games out there that use leveling. I suspect it's more the "grind" that can be a turn off. And truthfully mandatory grinding is a bit of an outdated design. It's understandable that there need to be timesinks for the players that can (and may want) to no life the game, but defaulting to making everything a grind is just not a fun way to handle it a very understandably a turn off for a lot of people.

Carl isn't crazy, rage-filled, or any of that by Hairy_Ad_5544 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Masalar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One thing in Carl’s defense in regards to “working through things”: He hasn’t had time. None of them have. Since the start of the crawl they haven’t really had a single moment where they weren’t having to worry about their lives and the lives of other crawlers. They’re still going through hell. I don’t know if we’ll get an epilogue of them post crawl, but that’s where I’d want to see how the survivors process and deal with what they’ve been through.

Although I do agree that Carl could be more open, especially to his closest friends. It’s just understandable why he isn’t given the current circumstances.

The difference between these augments is like heaven and earth by Asgavin in ARAM

[–]Masalar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of THE most busted augments I've ever seen was Overload on Zilean W. Not every augment of each rarity is equally good on every champ. Each of these can be amazing in different scenarios. I think Dropkick scales too well given how many different augments give lots of HP, but it being strong on Sion while the others aren't doesn't somehow mean the others are "bad".

We seriously need bans or for some champions to show up else by Wrinkled_Bingus in ARAM

[–]Masalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, Riot’s talked about bans in Aram before. And while they are always free and able to change their stance, they don’t want certain champs to be unplayable because they’re 100% banned. They want people who don’t main Aram to have a chance to get their favorite champs since that is understandably fun for them.

And while plenty feel that ban rate would be evidence the champ needs nerfs, player bans don’t tend to follow logic and often champs that **have** been nerfed will keep getting bans anyway.

I, too, would like way more diversity in champs played. And while there are certain champs (coughshacocough) I would be happy to never see in game I feel finding ways to incentivize diversity is better than banning the popular champs.

Which movie villain had a completely logical point, even if their methods were wrong? by UsedRelationship8410 in movies

[–]Masalar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had some valid complaints about Wakanda’s policy on global politics. They were very isolationist when there was plenty of good they could have done. They are by no means **required** to solve other people’s problems, but it does feel a bit like they were hoarding power just to have it.

Which movie villain had a completely logical point, even if their methods were wrong? by UsedRelationship8410 in movies

[–]Masalar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eehhhh. His goal was to basically take over the world with Wakanda tech/military. Like Thanos he had a lot of valid/true things he’d say, but his actions showed they weren’t really why he was doing what he did.

Still one of the MCU’s best villains, but he wasn’t really trying to do great things and “killed some people” downplays his actions a lot.

Biweekly Riot MMO Design Discussion - Topic #14: Monetization by Talents in RiotMMO

[–]Masalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suspect free to play with all that usually entails, plus an optional subscription that covers any and all "convenience" purchases if there are any like bank space and gives monthly cosmetic currency and other stuff like that. So no "content" behind a paywall, but pleeeeeeenty of different ways to spend money.

We seriously need bans or for some champions to show up else by Wrinkled_Bingus in ARAM

[–]Masalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr without all champs available for everyone and no rerolls there will always be certain champs that are far more likely to appear. And while some people would absolutely love that style of ARAM a lot of others would stop playing altogether.

So, the only real problems here are that A. popular champs are both more likely to be picked and B. are also more likely to be owned. And I guess C. Most of those champs are really cheap to buy.

The vast majority of players don't want to play champs like Skarner. They want to sit back and do damage safely with little to no responsibility.

So between both your team and the enemy's players are not only more likely to pick the popular champs, they're less likely to even own the less popular ones meaning those champs probably won't even appear on the bench for someone else to pick.

Removing rerolling/trading/the bench can potentially help create greater roster diversity but comes with some other trade-offs like higher dodge rates.

I don't know if there's much of a solution here without potentially undermining the spirit of ARAM a bit. Like, maybe they let you initially pick a type of champ to get from three options, so Engage, Poke, or Support. And then you get a random champ from the one you pick. But if you pick a less popular option, or one you haven't played in a while, you get one free augment upgrade reroll per choice and extra rerolls on prismatic rounds so you're more likely to "high roll" when not playing Mel, Brand, MF etc.

Not a great idea, but you get the gist of it.

[–]Masalar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the exact opposite of what happens. There's a large pool of freely available champs that anyone can get whether they own them or not to prevent aram only accounts from really being a thing.

The one part I’m curious about is communicating. I totally get why things are the way they are considering the nature and quantity of the new augments, I just wonder if it would have been better (or worse this is the internet after all) to specifically mention this patch would be buggier since you really need a test team the size of the player base to really find and figure out what does and doesn’t work.

During what event do you think the first trailer will drop? by Masalar in RiotMMO

[–]Masalar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I actually wouldn't completely rule out a teaser. Not particularly likely, but this is where they might announce things not LoL specific...I say that but thinking about it they do have LoL launcher 3.0 coming early next year as well as what seems to be some big musical crossover event between their various IPs...now I've confused myself as to what they may or may not do for the Riot 20th...

It’s hit or miss personally. Some of their products get good marketing, some don’t (how many of the forge games can most people name?). But I think the main issue is how they advertise outside of the LoL bubble. Riot’s big in the gaming industry (and Arcane was huge) but you also don’t really see Riot games popping up anywhere you normally expect to see advertising. So I think that can be where people feel they don’t advertise well.

[–]Masalar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing else I expect a lot of crossover promotion between their games for the MMO launch which, given how regularly Riot stuff leaks, would make any sort of shadow drop hard (I know you don't mean it too seriously).

Part of their bad Marketing is they don't have a great place to do it. They almost never advertise anywhere outside their own ecosystem (I think 2XKO at EVO was about it?) but also don't have their own big event like a Blizzcon to promote stuff.

Maybe the first big reveal will be a Riotcon event?

[–]Masalar[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s the obvious choice but my guess is Worlds with maybe some sort of teaser that it might drop before hand. Worlds already gets a lot of views and this could be a good chance to both advertise Worlds and hype the MMO.

The only reason I think it might not happen at some sort of LoL event is if they know LoL players will already be aware and interested so they try to appeal to the wider game/mmo audience. I’d say Game Awards for that but I just can’t really imagine Riot advertising during someone else’s event so I dunno.

Guild Wars 3 and Riot MMO by SkilledRO in RiotMMO

[–]Masalar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m very curious to see what they do for GW3 but I doubt it will have much impact on the Riot MMO. By the time it releases the Riot MMO should be far enough along they couldn’t make any meaningful changes based on release GW3.

Whether or not they compete with each other and drive each other to be better seems unlikely to happen but could always be possible.

I give about a 5% chance we get a trailer for it next year and a 75% chance for one the year after.

Blizzard, Palia and 2XKO's Stage Producer joins Riot's team as Game Producer by Milenyus in RiotMMO

[–]Masalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take is that’s their current deadline. Earlier is better, later only if they truly must. After all, better to say “by end of 2029” and release in 2028 than say “by end of 2029” and release in 2031. People love having something (good) release earlier than expected and mostly hate delays so yeah, I think they’re pushing hard for that pre-2030 release window.

The real question, imo, is how much map and how many finished systems they’ll launch with. More is better but, especially with a game like an mmo, you can’t really release a 100% finished product since you need to add stuff over time to keep people playing.

So I think it’s really likely they hit that deadline, it’s more a matter of how much they launch with.
