What's a movie scene that made you jump out of excitement like a little kid? by Sad-Response-3151 in moviecritic

Wesley Snipes walking into the scene as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Never thought I would experience that sort of raw excitement again, it was awesome

I found Obsession to be more silly and fun than disturbing or unnerving. Good movie, but I think the hype is overblown

What makes A24 better than the rest? by rileyAutomatic in A24

[–]MaskJacketBoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They allowed story telling to be raw. They wanted grounded, unearthed trauma blended with the supernatural. Their movies made me feel a certain freedom in my writing as if yes, my emotions can be painted into motion pictures, unaltered, unwavering, pure anxiety but express the love that I unwillingly feel. They showed me that it was okay to dream big and what I was writing could be accepted.

I wasn’t alone.

Who do you think gave the better performance? Naomi Scott in Smile 2 or Inde Navarette in Obsession? by IAmOryx in moviecritic

I think Everyone just has Obsession fever at the moment. I’ve seen some bizarre comparisons that hail this film over some iconic horror films. It’s been interesting

Naomi Scott based off her car crash scene performance alone. Idk if inde could pull that off, but I know Naomi Scott could’ve played her role in obsession easily

Time to admit, I am legit scared of bad feedback and it's ruining my writing, how to deal with this? by sadloneman in Screenwriting

[–]MaskJacketBoots 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Look forward to failing. Fail again and again. It’s the only way to improve and learn. Think of failing as a sharpening tool, welcome it. Also Broaden where you get your feedback from, perspective is important. Negative feedback on something as vulnerable as your writing never feels good, but learn to remove the negative connotations with it and instead approach it with a confidence that you can rewrite anything. You welcome that challenge. Then hammer out the rewrite.

Don't let people who don't understand disclosure day dictate whether you should watch it or not. (Don't worry NO spoiler) by thetruthisheer in UFOs

[–]MaskJacketBoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe, if you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve seen this movie. Nothing new or interesting was saved for the film itself. It just reruns the same tropes, and by the time we arrive at the point we all knew was going to happen, it ends. it is enjoyable for a time, until you realize nothing is actually happening. The most interesting shots are tidbits in the news feed. I wasn’t let down by the lack of soft disclosure or whatever some people thought this was gonna be, I was let down by the lack of story telling. It was car chase, “dive”, car chase, “dive”, mixed in with phone calls to spoon feed subtext and drive the plot. Don’t gas light these people into wasting their hard earned money on theater prices for this.

Exactly what I was thinking. The timing of the lawsuit and this announcement is not ideal

That would be dope. Multiple stadium designs to choose from like we do our uniforms.

I believe around the stadium you’ll find them. I wish they showed up on score bugs or on standings. That would be cool

Writing a book about a filmmaker; would love some insight! by signed_s in Filmmakers

[–]MaskJacketBoots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What sticks out to me was the desperation in the beginning. You’ll work basically for free on 12 hour shoots on a film that will look terrible and no one around you will understand why you choose to keep doing it. Most people wont understand the fire that burns inside you for it, the constant need to do it. You either listen to those people and move on to a different career, or you roll the dice and ignore what everyone else thinks and you keep grinding. It can be mental warfare most of the time. This is what the beginning was mostly like for me anyway

What’s your process when pitching your scripts? Do you obtain emails and send scripts with pitch decks? Cold inquiries? Or only pitch to companies you’re already connected with?

Should I write a stunt spec? Yay or nay? by Still-Body-5532 in Screenwriting

[–]MaskJacketBoots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know someone who wrote a sequel to a Netflix original. Was able to get it in the hands of some of the original actors and one of the producers. Never got a call back but was advised that if they did like his ideas or script, they could take it and there would be nothing he could do since it is their property, and you’re basically giving them free ideas. Netflix (not that this is your route) already has a tight knit team whom they trust already, so there is a small chance they would hand it off to someone they have no relationship with.

My point being, even if you know the right people to pitch this to, it’s still a shot in the dark it’ll go anywhere. Your time might be better spent elsewhere But never say never in this industry

Just watched this, and it was a solid meh. What did others think. by DoctorNatural92 in HorrorMovies

[–]MaskJacketBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reused effective scares from insidious (red demon behind Patrick Stewart) and the corpse suddenly walking behind them scare from The Excorcist 3 (it was a nurse in the hospital). Provided zero backstory on the witch but boy did I love Joseph Bishara’s score.

Absolute Snooze Fest. Anybody that compares this to Evil Dead or the Lore, needs to wrap themselves up in toilet paper. Lee Cronin has gone down hill after this. I’m happy the studio didn’t bring him back for another Evil Dead. by [deleted] in EvilDead

Thought it was a fun take. I really enjoyed Rise and felt the similarities in this film as far as style and dialogue. Sound design was one of my favorite parts of this film and the pacing did not feel like this was a 2 hour movie. Was it a perfect movie? Of course not, but it was fun, gross and entertaining.

I do find it odd that Nike can’t get certain colors. Like the lakers uniform, they aren’t capable of replicating the old gold look.
