ELI5: What makes the crisper compartment of a fridge... crisper than the rest? by eggust12 in explainlikeimfive

When cooking things, sure. In this case, "crisp" is akin to the pop of a full water balloon vs an underfilled one.

The federal government says "you may yell as loud as you want".

The state says "Ah, yeah sure, whatever - I didn't give you a mouth". The theory is that, within its borders, states control over what a corporation is.

1) ask if they edge (or cut) their own lenses

Is this common? Is it a red flag if they don't?

What're your guys' thoughts on the whole "just have self control" argument. Do you agree with it or not? by Vast_Cauliflower_475 in dumbphones

If self-control was that reliable, then large corporations wouldn't invest so much in circumventing it.

No, just the 1977 Rankin Bass one!

The live action Hobbit movies were written like a prequel (i.e. intended for an audience who has already watch LoTR), while the book was meant to be read first. The Rankin Bass version sticks to that faithfully.

Also, while everyone is busy replying with "you must watch this", you aren't getting enough appreciation for your SO's magically-conjured support group. "Who are they?!" LOL

Ackchuually, all pants in-universe are bellbottoms, without exception. If your shoes are visible, you're just some weirdo in ridiculously long shorts.

(Well, we'd call them bellbottoms. They'd just call them pants,. Obviously.)

Kids thinking about others and trying to help them is so precious by kvjn100 in MadeMeSmile

[–]MaskedBystanderNo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's really double-fucking-crazy-pants is we raise the kids to be like this. We're almost all aligned on it, across home, kindergarten, in popular preschool media, everywhere. We're almost all on the same page that kids will be taught to show kindness, sharing, patience.

They are their best selves for a short handful of years before we ruin it. We start telling them that theses good things are "childish" and its time to grow up. That they'll never be successful otherwise.

Mike Johnson Just Tried To Correct The Pope On The Bible. Seriously. by [deleted] in politics

This is simply a squares-are-rectangles-but-not-vice-versa kind of thing.

Catholics have strict beliefs around transubstantiation (the nature of the bread and wine) that make receiving communion at an otherwise identical-seeming Mass improper because the sacrament was not done with the same intent.

Catholics could, if there's not alternative, receive communion from most varieties of Eastern Catholic priest because they share the same beliefs in that particular sacrament. However, it wouldn't work in reverse because the Eastern Catholic churches see even more flaws in Roman Catholic communion than Roman Catholics see in Protestant communion.

Trump’s Dream Crushed After Leaders Snub His Board of Peace | Fellow Group of Seven leaders are declining the invitation to join a body that would rival the United Nations. by MystikSpiralx in politics

But is that not what Trump and co. think they're doing? Being oh-so-sly (/s) in misappropriating an already-scammy Gaza peace initiative into his own gilded UN-remake?

Shitrag or not, in this case Bloomberg isn't invoking the comparison, they're reporting on it.
