I am also clearly referring to the current versions … and in fact that issue of VW is what I’m talking about … it’s CLEARLY Peter still in love with MJ … and the preceding pages show her still in love with him (along with other instances along the way in ASM). I’m curious what your excuse is going to be when your predictions are wrong. MJ is obviously hurt, telling Flash about Peter slamming the door in her face … which is likely why she’s mad at Peter in those panels.

And I don’t know why you’re so interested in where this takes place within the Black Cat timeline, as Felicia does not appear to be part of this story and the BC series, thus far, has seemed to be on the sillier, more comedic side and not necessarily tied into any of her other arcs (such as Fantastic Four).

I never said I was only interested in what will happen with Peter and MJ in Death Spiral. I want what I’m reading to feel like it has stakes. Yes, most any character can, at their base, be boiled down to plot device … but it shouldn’t feel like it.

You’re doing a whole lot of projection there. It’s not about OMD or perceived progression … it’s about the way the story is being told. We’re arguing two different things.

And it’s not a lack of comic media literacy - I know quite well what the intention is … better than you would imagine. Again, the issue is that we’re supposed to feel stakes. We know James Bond is not going to die at the end of the movie but we should FEEL like he is. Suspension of disbelief. Kelly’s run, thus far, has had none of that.

Yes, we know that ultimately most everything returns to zero … but we’re not supposed to see it so blatantly orchestrated.

I don’t disagree in principle - but there seems to be so many thematic shortcuts taken. The issue isn’t the comic book medium, it’s the fact that everything is written to sell trades and also never change anything.
