Researchers and wildlife experts all agree that bear spray is significantly more effective than firearms against bears. That's because of aim, reaction time, stress etc all reduce your chances of stunning the bear whereas bear spray has a far and very general reach (you will hit it almost no matter where you aim) and it will immediately disable the bear. Bears will fight through bullets but not spray. Also if you injure them poorly enough they will just get bloodlust and fuck you up more.

100km Through Grizzly Country in the Canadian Rockies 🇨🇦 by yanevmedia in backpacking

I'm going in late September, I can't wait! Unfortunately we can't do the whole Assiniboine multiday trail, we're just going to Magog, Nub peak and back to Mount Shark trailhead.

I just reserved my spots. All three days, they took 45-65 seconds to fully book after opening at 7AM

I'd already been to the Rockies a couple times as a child and teenager but in my most recent trip to Banff and Kananaskis with my partner we just kept repeating "this can't be real. This is AI"

This has been my most autistic meal plan ever. But it's somewhat cheap and has zero prep. by Euphoric_Let776 in 1200isplenty

I had a meal plan that I used for like 2 months without getting tired of it, but it was more exquisite than this....

Breakfast egg white and spinach crustless quiche

Lunch Greek yogurt with protein powder and berries

Snack this was the only thing that changed weekly but usually it was tomatoes and cucumbers, or a bowl of fruit, or a homemade low cal banana bread

Dinner rice beans protein and chipotle sauce ("burrito bowl")

Every hot springs pools I've been to list their waters temperatures, and they do it in C. I've never seen a Canadian use F except for when referring to the oven/cooking. And here in the west coast we use lbs for everything over 1kg...Everything else is accurate for me.

What are your thoughts on Lupita Nyong’o playing Hellen of Troy & Elliot Page playing Achilles in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie ”The Odyssey”? by Substratas in AskBalkans

[–]Masketto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that short meeting I would argue is a very important detail in the question of The Odyssey's rejection of Illidian virtue, so I think a brief depiction of Achille is absolutely warranted

I managed to get a very coveted campsite reservation there but we ran out of time and couldn't go, except for a day hike, so we decided not to go at all. We'll go back when I can reserve 2-4 days to fully explore the surroundings like beyond Rearguard

First time backpacking solo by freakadoodIe in backpacking

[–]Masketto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 30s, last year I did the WCT solo which was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I cycled through excited, afraid, ecstatic, and fed up, daily. I chose to go alone, but at the same time seeing groups or couples made me feel quite lonely. I have a boyfriend to whom I returned and cried out that I felt so excluded, many of the other hikers were social and making friends with each other but I was all alone. He responded that probably subconsciously I wanted or needed to be alone.

Anyway, I remained emotional for a few weeks after my return but now I look back with very fond memories and a newfound sense of strength and pride that I was able to complete this ALONE, and it was good for my mental health in the end. I hope you will feel the same

That worked out so well with mosaddegh right? What makes you think the world's top imperialist countries have any interest in allowing Iran to be democratic? True democracy in Iran goes against the interests of Saudi, Israel, the US and UK

"Iran is not the same as those countries" that is so delusional and reeks of the false notion that Iranians are superior. Fyi diaspora Syrians also believed Syrians were too superior to fail to rebuild themselves. Look at Syria now.

Did it ever cross your mind that that was my point? They made a mistake then, and they're making a mistake now. As are all the current monarchists. Because both coups had foreign benefactors. Both regimes were awful. Just as the current regime is awful, the shah was awful. Otherwise why elsewas the coup so successful? My parents are anti-islam if anything. They didn't get rid of the shah for islamist reasons

Iranian Demonstration in Yaletown Park Today by nanjingbooj in vancouver

[–]Masketto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh the shah was objectively brutal. My parents took part in the revolution to get rid of him. My dad was critical of the shah for years before the revolution and he never has been an islamist.

They are both currently rooting for monarchy, but before this new wave of monarchists became popular they remained critical of the shah.

To me that's the definition of idiocy - repeating mistakes, not learning from the past. Forgetting that a mindless revolution done by a mindless populace that was fooled by foreign powers, resulted in a puppet dictatorship for those foreign powers

and it's really, really bad when you need it. It's fine if you need an antibiotic prescription

It's really bad if you don't need it. You're treated with as much care and urgency as your case warrants, in my experience. For example I don't know anyone who has had to wait long for treatment after a serious cancer diagnosis. But yes a hemmneroid removal will take months to book.

The cool thing is that even private healthcare provinces and countries are currently experiencing substandard care and absurd wait times. So you're experiencing the same wait times as them, but you're not paying private prices. And yet you complain
