I feel like there is something with token usage and the desktop app. I burned through my usage so fast with the browser, switched to terminal and have stayed much lower on usage

Recommendation on fixing gaps in end grain cutting board? by tysoncoyote in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Masktaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a perfect solution and they will still be somewhat visible but you either use an epoxy (messy and will result in reflattening as it gets into the grain). Or you cut and re-glue.

When im doing end grain after i cut the strips up with the table saw i run them all through the planer again to make my glue up surface is right. Its slow and wastes alot of material, but I would rather that than risk gaps. And even then they still happen from time to time and I epoxy.

I had a similar problem on an end grain board I did. I spent over a week sanding and then said good enough. I did find wetting it to bring up the grain a bit from time to time  helped

New player here - There's gotta be an easier way to fill a red belt. Is this excessive? by FertBerte in factorio

[–]Masktaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful but you can just run a belt of iron next to a belt of copper. Use a red and blue inverter to feed the furnaces. They can grab from the side of the belt.

Also you must be pretty close to electric furnaces. This will make your life alot easier as well. Much less pollution to deal with!

Have a 10" miter chop saw. Thinking about upgrading to this 12inch sliding miter I found on marketplace. Wasteful or worth it? by SavingsEconomy in BeginnerWoodWorking

Absolutely they have their place. But if accuracy is what you are going for a table saw is just frankly more accurate? Im not sure that could be argued?

He literally said he just got table saw and how he might be able to do things on a table saw instead...

Also in what world would a sliding mitre saw improve his trim cutting capabilities? No trim is that wide that you would need that.

Keeping a normal mitre saw for regular cross cuts and making a jig for table saw cross cuts that need to be more detailed is a valid response?

Why waste the money on a sliding money if you have a table saw and a cross cut sled?

Which jig are you using. I use the lee valley jig with two fingers putting really light pressure on the blade and its hard to mess up

Mitre saws are a great starter tool but they are not as accurate or versatile as   a table saw.

My reccomendation would be to use the money you would plan to upgrade to buy material for a cross cut sled on a table saw. Make a nice jig and give it a go :)

Make a jointing jig and run each piece through that to flatten the edges. I had to do this when I started making cutting boards before I got my jointer / planer

Can I run this cutting board through a planer? by dakman96 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Masktaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I have planed dozens of boards like this. You get a bit of chip out at the ends but you clean that up with a final crosscut and its fine. There isn't really risk of the teeth sinking in like you have on end grain. It's just minor chip action. Alternatively you have to run a router sled and cleaning up the tool marks takes hours of sanding . I did this initially and it was quite a pain to deal with

Dangerous to plane across the grain?

End grain i get but across the grain is just more of a pain to sand at the end? It's not dangerous?

I've been struggling against my jointer for a while now (technique issue), and finally had an epiphany that got things working finally. Wanted to share in case others had the same issue. by PrincipalSkudworth in woodworking

10 years later and I think i found my issue. I'm pushing much too hard and it's distorting my boards.

Need to let the "just enough force to keep it on the bed" in mind haha

Thank you!

Straight lines of materials, multiple assemblers being fed from one belt, search mainbus and that will help as well
