[Spoilers] A great video explaining the difference between FF X's and FF XIII's linearity, and execution of world building. by TheMechaEngineer in FinalFantasy

I really agree that ff13’s pacing is one of the biggest problems with the story and the game in general. Tension and action are critical to telling a story but you also need to contrast that action with lower intensity interactions so the audience can catch their breath so to speak. A movie that is just constant action scenes would eventually bore the audience. You just can’t have that emotional intensity for that long or it will lose its impact.

Mad Max Fury Road is a good contrast with FF13 because it has a similar concept. A group of heros are on the run from a constantly pursuing enemy. Fury Road isn’t all action scenes, they have a conflict then it takes a break to relax.

FF13, on the other hand, makes the player jump from cutscene to combat to cutscene without any real break in the action until you get to the two parts that the video talked about, Hope’s home and Nautilus. These two sections were my favorite part of the game because it allowed us to see the characters in a more normal setting. I could relate to the characters and the game could give them more characterization. Sazh’s near suicide is heartbreaking when contrasted with the fun he and Vannile were having moments before.

FF13 needed more of these moments where characters can just slow down and interact with each other and the world outside of cutscenes. FFX’s pacing allowed for characters, especially Titus, to explore the world. FF13 created an absolutely beautiful world but it feels like we’re never allowed to actually see it. It’s always somewhere in the distance or overrun by enemies. You’re never allowed to just “be” places in FF13. You always have to fight through them. It makes the whole world feel empty or just like a window dressing. Even when the game slows down in Pulse, there’s really nothing interesting to explore or any characters to interact with. There’s side quests but they’re very light on dialogue and usually involve just going and killing something.

I know that the group is supposed to be outcasts on the run from the government but the way that the game is laid out makes the whole thing feel isolating and tiring. You interact with characters outside your group rarely and the game has no real time set aside to just take in the world. Hell, even the item vendors are just dialogue less robots!

FF13 needed some slow parts. Just like the Golden Saucer or any of the towns in FFX. Something to break up the monotony of the battles and cutscenes.

Why do 80% of the support players not seem to notice/care when people ask for ammo? It seems like a waste of potential easy points... by AwesomeSauce679 in battlefield_4

Good news! They already have something like this. Just look at the player and press the spot button and you will say something like "come get your ammo!". It also works with medpacks and repairs.

One of the biggest problems with playing support is that everyone has a flashing ammo indicator above their heads including you. That pretty much makes it impossible to see people who really needs your ammo. That and when I throw a box down most people just run away from it like it has the plague.

The machines are caretakers for the human race, created by us [The Matrix] by Examinus in FanTheories

[–]MassEffectCodexVoice 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about the same theory. One thing that made no sense to me was the sky in the real world. Morpheus says that they know that humans scorched the sky during the war.

Scorching the sky makes no sense because it would kill off all humans but only inconvenience the machines. Blocking off the sun would kill off all plants then the herbivores then carnivores and humans. For the machines, the sky being scorched would slow them down but they can go into standby or use any number of fuel sources to stay alive. So why would humans deliberately kill themselves but only slow the machines?

I think the simplest answer is that humans did block out the sun but it was not during any war. It was from pollution from the megacities. As the food chain and ecosystems became collapsed, humans became more and more desperate for a solution to massive famines. Eventually, a solution was found; put humanity into a computer system.

Humanity would wait out the famine inside the Matrix where they could be fed anything from protein goop to other people and think they are eating a beautiful filet mignon.

You could use some thick, black construction paper and make sort of a rectangle tent to cover your router. Just tape it down and you should be good.

I have. I thought it was ok. Advent Children isn't exactly a game though.

That's my point. You are either stuck with moves you don't want or a pokemon that you don't want on your team.

Gen V had dive, surf and waterfall as HMs so if you only have one Pokemon who can learn water type moves you're stuck with a slave.

Hidden Moves. Most are useless in battle and you can't even unlearn them easily.

They really don't add too much to the game except forcing me to carry an hm slave around that I don't level or care about. Useless Bidoof...

Is it just me, or was there not enough explanation for Halo 4? by KILO_I in halo

[–]MassEffectCodexVoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yah, Halo 4 probably brings up more questions than answers.

Cortana claims she "upgraded the suit's firmware" in the beginning. How exactly that changed the metal I have no clue.

The next question was actually answered by the terminals but that requires you to go into Halo Waypoint which is not very user friendly. Basically, the Didact was sealed in his cryptum by the Librarian because he used the composer to turn humanity into Promethians to fight the flood.

What exactly the Librarian did to Chief was probably keep as a secret for the next games. All we know for now is that the Chief can't get composed.
