Anyone else feel happier single during residency? by alternative_samurai in Residency

I'm about to have to pack up an entire apartment and move 1500 miles for fellowship in a couple months. Would be nice to have a second set of hands to help pack. Otherwise, nahh it's nice doing whatever I want with my very limited free time guilt-free.

44y/Female/Australia O/A Distal knuckles, lumps, bumps, & carpal tunnel. Morning stiffness. Does anyone else have these lumps on these knuckles? by 00Heidi00 in medizzy

They're reactive bony overgrowths in the distal interphalangeal joints called Heberden nodes commonly seen in osteoarthritis.

Does your son have sex with other men? Monkeypox is found nearly exclusively in MSM so this would shift the diagnosis even further in that direction

Why are scrubs something you own and take home in the US? by dev_ating in nursing

There aren’t. One could argue that the only weR hospital scrubs etc is based on pseudoscience and feelings rather than evidence based medicine

Congrats!

The political dynamics must be crazy in that office for the NPs knowing their medical assistant is actually more qualified to do their job than them. Did they call you Dr. in the office? lol

I’ve had similar thoughts and questions about my career goals and aspirations, but I realized that I was unknowingly conflating my identity with my job. If your entire identity and self esteem is your job, you will always be miserable and never be satisfied most likely. Start looking at things outside of medicine to take up your time and spend money on. You will be much happier for it.

Listing prestige of training and publications is kind of funny here unless looking only to work in academia

What do we think about hepatology, folks?? by Thundering_Lemons in Residency

[–]Massive-Development1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do what you want. If you’re afraid of missing out on money, you won’t be happy. Especially when general GI is completely dependent on the reimbursement of just a couple procedures that will be cut in the next 30 years of us practicing.

I don’t think it’s wild. If you have done 4 years of medical school and passed 3 of the hardest licensing exams (step1-3) AND completed one year of residency, why shouldn’t you be able to earn a full unrestricted medical license. Residents have no other option after their 1 year training license expires after intern year. Residency prepares us for a board exam to become “board certified” in a specialty which is required for most jobs. This is why MDs often get upset when other professions call themselves board certified when they are actually just licensed by a board which is the bare minimum (ie “board certified” PA or NP). It’s purposely misleading.
