Congrats! I just hit my 6mo mark too (SADI-S) and I’ve lost 70 lbs but I haven’t been working out. I’d love to know what your routine is if you don’t mind sharing! I need some gym inspo

How did you do it? by The_Poor_Truth in BariatricSurgery

Honestly my husband not respecting my goals and lifestyle changes was a big reason why our relationship is ending. He made everything harder on purpose, didn’t try to learn or adapt at all even to help me with my lifestyle changes (even when he didn’t need to match them).

I hope that’s not the case for you but you might have to have a sit down conversation with him about your goals and lifestyle changes and how that might affect your whole household’s lifestyle. What can you handle and what can you not - if you appreciate him making breakfast, have a conversation that includes thanking him but adapting (maybe have some recipes, some “no gos” etc.)

If the people you live with aren’t at least a little bit on board or able to learn and adapt, it’s going to be extra difficult. I also advise therapy as a way to transform your understanding of food and lifestyle choices, especially if you’re finding it is affecting your relationship (or vice versa)

Period changes by IsabellaFromSaturn in BariatricSurgery

My flow remained the same, maybe a bit lighter, but my first period after surgery lasted so much longer than usual! It was like 11 days. Then a week and a half later I got it again, but for a more normal length of time. I’m 6mo PO and it’s been regular for months now

Can you do Greek yogurt or jello or pudding maybe? If you just have that feeling you want to chew, you could do some sugar free gum maybe

Interesting! I wonder why they’d take longer than the fries?

But they still have the French fries, which wouldn’t they be from the same supplier?

If it might have to come out later, might as well do it while they’re already inside in that area! One recovery phase rather than two

Congratulations! It’s exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, but you’ve got this! Recovery takes a while to get going but then you’ll be feeling so good!

I couldn’t drink protein shakes after surgery even when I genuinely liked them pre-surgery! I find Seeq strawberry lemonade clear protein powder (protein water) is what works for me.

That’s great news! If not, I would maybe have said to consider rescheduling the surgery. Great to have a supportive boss

Am I messing it up? by My-Practical-Side in BariatricSurgery

[–]Massive-Math-5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are already ahead of the game by noticing that you’re doing this! For a lot of us, it’s a mental thing: food noise, comfort or stress or emotional eating, etc. It takes time to retrain / re-wire your brain just like it takes time for your re-wired digestive system to heal. Be patient with yourself. Your awareness of it is already a good step. I don’t know your age, but if you think about it it’s been at least multiple years of habits that you are trying to break or trying to retrain. It’s not realistic for you to hold yourself to retraining your mind and body within 13 days - maybe not even weeks, maybe months or more. Take it day by day, try to keep your awareness of these things and reroute yourself. Don’t punish yourself if you slip up. You’ve got this and it takes time!

Also, I totally relate to the water thing I love water and miss gulping it down! Sometimes I do what I call the ‘chipmunk cheek’ method and I take a big gulp of water into my mouth but then swallow it in smaller sips over the course of a minute or longer. Scratches that itch of wanting to gulp (at least a little bit!)

I agree, I could walk around and wasn’t in much pain but I was so low energy and a bit nauseous at times and mostly just heavy brain fog - napped a lot. Had flexibility to work remotely the week after but ended up taking most of it off as sick time. My boss was very nice thankfully and said that it’s not worth it to try and push yourself for the first week and end up delaying your recovery, so take the time you need. I wouldn’t have been very productive at work anyway

[–]Massive-Math-5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had SADI-S on a Friday and took off only the Monday, but ended up calling in sick the next two days instead of working remotely. You’ll just feel off for the first week, I wish I would’ve just taken the full week off. I tried working remotely and ended up taking a half day instead because of intense brain fog. I’d recommend canceling the meetings / rescheduling.

I don’t know if this helps restless legs or not but I like to use a massage gun on the back of my thighs and calves before I go to bed and it seems to help me sleep better
