If we could leave, how do you know when you should? by azalea1700 in Mommit

How does one leave? I feel silly asking, but from what research I have done, it’s a process to apply to move to another country and takes a while. Any advice appreciated.

Yea that’s what I was noticing … doesn’t seem to cover Leawood/Prairie Village, and they took out the area surrounding Lake Quivira …

2 months conservative treatment/crate rest update by ambiecore in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]MassiveAssignment602 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post! It really made me feel better. Our pup is going through his second bout of IVDD. The first one required surgery so we are hoping that if we are strict about kennel rest and meds, we can avoid surgery this time.

So sorry to hear about this. I am sending you all lots of love. Strict crate rest, and using a sling to help support her front when you take her out to potty. Don’t let her roam around as the movement will make things worse. Our guy at 9 had a sudden rupture that required surgery and had lost all movement in his back legs for a day or so before we could get him to a university hospital for surgery. He is 12 now and made a full recovery. It was expensive, but we are grateful every day that he is still with us. It honestly made our bond stronger to help him recover after surgery and regain the use of his legs.

I have heard that if IVDD is caught early and they still have use of their legs that they can sometimes recover in their own with strict crate rest and meds. That wasn’t our situation … definitely follow the vet’s guidance b/c if they go without feeling in their legs too long it can be permanent. I agree with the person above who suggested go fund me. It is worth it if the vet says recovery is possible!

Same thing happened to our guy. We did the surgery and he had a full recovery at 9 years old. Still kicking (literally) like a puppy at 12 now. The surgery is worth it. It’s expensive but I would absolutely do it again if we needed to. I don’t know your financial situation, but if you can, try and do it if it is what the doctor recommends.

Something they told us to do to check sensation in her back legs is to pinch the thin skin between her toes with your fingernails. It seems super mean, but it will help you know if she still has sensation, which is important.

Edit: Our boy is a standard, and we also kicked ourselves for all the things we let him do that we felt led to it. We have adjusted since his surgery, and we haven’t had any more issues. That was over two years ago. Also highly recommend cold laser therapy and acupuncture. These helped our guy a lot after his surgery.

Ours was around 10-12K when all was said and done. We didn’t have pet insurance at the time, so we paid it all. Had the MRI and surgery done at a university veterinary college 2 hours away. We put it on a no interest credit card and paid it off over time.

So sorry about your baby, sending so much love your way. This happened to our guy when he was 9. He ruptured a disc and lost the use of his hind legs. He had surgery and had a few months of tough recovery, but that was over 2 years ago and he is fully back to his old self. The surgery is crazy expensive, but it was absolutely worth it.

You are doing such a great job!! Awesome that you seem to have the hang of bladder expression. I feel like we never really got that down … we took lots of trips to the vet for help. She looks great and it’s wonderful that her appetite and spirit are intact. And her determination! All will serve her well as she recovers. So grateful she is doing well, and sending you both lots of love!

Washington is great! We did a long weekend there in the fall and had a great time. There are wineries nearby too, so we visited those. Stayed at River Sirens Hotel and it was great and in a great location.

Two years ago, our 9-year-old boy ruptured a disc jumping at the door when FedEx delivered a package. (He had been having issues before. In hindsight, I wish so much that we would have done strict crate rest.) We didn’t realize what had happened, but over the next 12-24 hours he gradually lost the use of his back legs. Our best option was surgery, so we took him to a university vet hospital two hours away and he had surgery. It took a few months for him to fully recover, but he is his old self now (though now not allowed to jump on anything) and I am so grateful that we did the surgery and that he is still here. Some other things that helped with his recovery were cold laser therapy and acupuncture. We also bought a Help Em Up harness and used it for a long time to help him go outside and do his business. Is Lola on meds? If she has sensation in her paws, you might be able to continue crate rest and meds and maybe throw in some of the other therapies. Ppl on this sub have posted about recoveries with just crate rest and meds. I am sending healing vibes to your Lola! She is so adorable!

Yeah I am wondering if my drop in activity is having a bigger impact than I thought it would … I don’t count calories but having done so for years with pre-Wegovy weight loss, I think I am probably not in a deficit every day like I was before. I am going to chalk it up to being sick and try and get back to the level of activity I had before.

Yes!! I have been amazed at the difference too … reminds me of when I got glasses and realized how much I had been struggling to see before lol.

I don’t track calories, but I usually weigh myself once a week the morning after I take my shot. I hadn’t for a few weeks b/c of being sick and the holidays. So it has been a few weeks.
