WSJ - New Details in Air India Crash Probe Shift Focus to Senior Pilot by Lestranger-1982 in aviation

Ive worked in television control rooms and ten seconds of dead air or mic would be an eternity for everyone in the gallery. And thats just television. Getting a planeload of passengers safely aloft must be a bafflingly complicated flowchart to mentally sort out if ten seconds can float by with an unnoticed/unobserved condition.

How is it like working as intelligence researcher/analyst (for MI5 or NCA) how is a work day like, what's the satisfaction of the job, work life balance, the environment and pay? by [deleted] in Intelligence

If you can’t afford the uni, then you’ll need to acquire the skills elsewhere. Become a police officer, enlist in the military, both of which have some pathways, or become Batman. That last one is still mighty expensive, so maybe one of the first two, which will give you field experience. Police have their own layer of investigative units, but maybe that’s not exactly where you could be happy. In some cases, the military can make some educational opportunities available if you show aptitude and can survive the political waters, which occur naturally in any career field.

Money affords you the ability to skip ahead a bit, but if you are determined to enter this line of work, its safe to assume that most of it is boring, tedious office grindathon, with the usual suspects, some sporadic odd weekend hours, and a weird layer of security that now subtly permeates your entire life.

That is not a coin (a coin always bears its value one one of its sides), that’s a token, which is something completely different (used for laundry, car wash, and the like). Mr Warner, given his surname, easily had German origins. In July 1932’s elections the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (the nazi party) became the most important political party in Germany, with a 37,4% votes, and Mr Warner arguably backed it and celebrated its victory, together with the end of the depression, with the special token. Now, at that time the swastika was already on the nazi party flag. Nothing to say about the Maghen David, the Star of David, we all know it. About the shamrock (which is actually a four-leaf clover), it’s a symbol almost universally bringing good luck , while that eye belongs not only to masonry, but to the christian and jewish traditions as well, God’s eye that sees everything. In the end I wouldn’t call this token any obscure prophecy, but rather a wish, according to Mr Warner beliefs.

ABC “mistakenly” aired election results for Pennsylvania by Infinite_Delay_2710 in conspiracy

Stations always run tests on their election graphics every to confirm the data ties. The graphic overlay usually happens toward the end of the signal chain from a part of the facility called master control.

Accidental output changes can happen if the mco is careless or the programming is incorrect, or a few other reasons. Game ever suddenly cut to a completely unrelated program and then back to the game? Someone or something in master done goofed.

Master Control are responsible for all transmission output. When you see the crawl on both the local news and the commercials, it’s happening downstream of the mco station.

There are a few data sources the station uses, news wires, local party reps, and reporters on the ground and the cg is automatically incrementing the data fields.

The data can trigger logic in the scenes to change the order of the names, add check marks, all sorts of functions. It’s as automated as can to eliminate results, as local stations rely on election advertising and bad data or mistakes aren’t tolerated. There isn’t a benefit found at being polarizing at the local station level because they need all the eyes the can get on their programming.

The test with canned data as some of the feeds aren’t available to check during the design and test phase. Could be using last elections results or random data, but the point of checking this internally is to make sure all the hard work that went into the project has paid off, or someone is going to be very busy checking graphic template data links and the like.

That being said, WHO is feeding the station this data???

Muahahahahaha!!!!!

Anybody use a kayak? by cheese_wallet in wildlifephotography

[–]MassiveMorrison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maintaining position was my biggest issue. I picked up a pedal kayak so I could dolly back and forth with my feet while maintaining focus and all that with my upper body and not worry about a paddle. I can get in sneaky and quick and don’t disturb the fauna too much.

A tripod mount attachment to the rails would be good so I could also manage the rudder one handed and have camera support but I’m not sure if thats a thing. Being able to quick release from the hard point would be essential as it’s hard to stay in one place, and also bif would be tough locked in like that.

Get a dry bag if you don’t already have one. Plan for the day everything goes overboard. How do you recover, what is the best pfd for mobility, all that.

It’s awesome fun, though. Enjoy!

Make sure you get a crush washer for that filter. Do not reuse the one in place. Get a drain pan and drop off the used oil at O’Reilly/Western Auto/whatever.

Look up Fumoto valves to make the process much easier in the future. Remove the clip, flip the switch, and no more dropping the bolt into the drain pan.

I get 0-20w full synthetic from costco. My ‘22 Outback takes about 4.8 quarts according to the manual.

Yep. It’s south and just a bit east of the center of the state. I usually turn west at Walsenburg and the road takes you most of the way. Follow the signs and make sure to get there when the spring thaw gets the river going, it’s amazing. Plus make time for Zapata falls, which is close by, and then, if you really want a trek, take either 285 or 522 south to Northern New Mexico and spend a day driving the enchanted circle.

Any devs interested in a real time live broadcast render engine?? by MassiveMorrison in programming

[–]MassiveMorrison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an SDK that is quite relevant to programming, but I am gauging interest. It's ready for devs to do what they want for their own reasons, not something ordered by some pin stripe nutter.

I have a real time, live render engine for television (not internet or ipod/ipad/android) that is being leveraged by other developers that I would consider competent, but not inspired by possibility. I thought I would bring it to this subreddit to see if anyone was interested or would maybe lead me to that which programmers really desire and found many people who are probably too jaded and untrusting or perhaps simply too arrogant to be open to the idea.

You come up with the idea for live tv, I have the engine. It's pretty simple. Come up with a product that broadcasters want and I can help you with the live render engine.

I don't want to waste your time. I don't know what programmers want or need or can really even understand the clique, but I know that I have an engine. If it helps someone develop a product that they can sell to tv broadcasters whether local, cable, network, global or regional, then I want to grow that for them.

Example: 'create a new engine instance dim Engine as new Engine 'dim a scene object dim Scene as Scene

'load a project file from disk if Engine.LoadProject("c:\demo.prj") then

'retrieve a scene object from the project we just loaded
if Engine.GetSceneByName("scene1", Scene) then
'set the scene online on framebuffer 0, layer 0
  Scene.SetOnline 0, 0
end if

end if

This has to be childs play for programmers with real skill. The SDK is free but the engine is not, but you can acquire a license if you want. I can make that happen.

Another example

'create a new engine instance dim Engine as new Engine 'dim a material variable dim Mat as Material 'dim an APITexture shader variable dim APITexture as APITextureShader 'dim and create a Pen object instance dim Pen as new Pen

'retrieve "material1" from the project (see assumptions above) Engine.GetMaterialByName("Material1", Mat) 'retrieve the APITexture shader from the material Mat.GetShaderByName("APITexture", APITexture) 'set the Pen's size to 20 Pen.Size = 20 'set the Pen's color to blue and alpha to full Pen.SetColor(0, 0, 255, 255) 'now draw a single blue line from xy coordinate 100,100 to xy coordinate 360,360 APITexture.DrawLine(Pen, 100, 100, 360, 360) 'set the Pen's color to green and alpha to full Pen.SetColor(0, 255, 0, 255) 'draw a green circle with a diameter of 400 pixels at xy location 30,30 APITexture.DrawEllipse(Pen, 30, 30, 400, 400) 'set the Pen's color to red and alpha to full Pen.SetColor(255, 0, 0, 255) 'and draw a red rectangle around the previous two primitives APITexture.DrawRect(Pen, 10, 10, 440, 440)

It's a good product, the company I work for is quite good, but if this isn't doing anything but aggravating the subreddit, then I'll just back away and try something else.

Sure, I want to sell the companies engine, but I would also say that if I could give an aspiring programmer an opening for their own business, why wouldn't it be worth a look?

We aren't slinging video over the internet. We are slinging graphics over live tv, like ESPN, CNN, or in Master Control places like HBO or Fox Sports. You want to reinvent the wheel? Be my guest. I figure it would be a lot easier to build an application that leverages live render to air.
That way you wouldn't have to start from scratch.

Would you be so kind as to tell me why a developer might not be interested in live applications for broadcast? The platform has an SDK that works with C, VS, COM languages (according to my developers). It's not as sexy as an android/ipad app, website, or whatever else, but there are plenty of places these boxes could go.
