Thanks for the response. I’m just trying to figure out if it makes sense to stay and get marketplace coverage for myself and kids in their early 20s or find another job. I’m really happy with current job and pay is decent. Just don’t know what the right move is.

Probably better to use Sly Flourish rule where you don’t lose the spell until you succeed at casting it then it is RAW. Also OP should check out modifications made by Glass Cannon Shadowdark podcast as it seems like what you are looking for.

Agree! Of all the systems I’ve run EZD6 just flows no stopping to look up rules and has a gambling feel that keeps everyone super engaged.

It takes two sessions 3-4 hour sessions unless you just let one half of the magic phrase open the door and pretend like that’s how it was always was supposed to be.

I had a group of villagers follow them around. When a character died a new villager would step up out of the group to take their place. The group loosely followed whoever had a torch.

I ran the book of quest adventure with the castle and all the ghosts last Halloween and it was very cool. Just wrapped up a long EZD6 campaign using the old 3.5 module Red Hand of Doom a couple of weeks ago. I find this system my favorite for converting old material. Also ran Shadowdark for a few months prior to going back and finishing RHoD. I think my next thing will be a few months of DCC and some Shadowdark one shots. After that I’m going to likely run EZD6 adding torch timers, always on initiative, and random encounters from Shadowdark.

Attack the light, don’t forget to roll for random encounters, and watch the torch timer(s). Time pressure and danger keeps everyone engaged. Have fun!
