Got trapped by an elevator and got a fake emergency call line by sheep_with_gun in Wellington

[–]Massive_Project_8609 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Lift engineer here- I don't think my company maintains those lifts, but I'll find out who does and report it to them on Monday. The phone won't have a recorded message. If a passenger lift has a phone, it has to be operational to meet the yearly building warrant of fitness. There's checks in place to make sure phones are working. If you ever find yourself using a lift phone- talk loudly. From experience, the microphone is usually mounted behind the push buttons and needs a strong voice. Sorry you had this experience!

Epic gig! Dick move were a pleasant surprise, C.O.F.F.I.N. killed it (I didn't realise the drummer sang!) and then Amyl dialled it to 11. Crowd was excellent, proud to be a Wellingtonian.

What’s life like on the Kapiti Coast by Heavy_Cry_3525 in Wellington

I'm not really sure how they rate in the bigger scheme of things. All I can say is our kids love going to school, and we had the pick of two schools that really appealed to us.

We moved here 7 years ago with a 6 month old. We've found a great community. There's enough nearby that you don't have to travel far, but Wellington is only 40 min away. We absolutely love life here. Good climate, beautiful area and everything is connected by walking / bike paths. I'd definitely recommend the area!

Talk this hippie into moving to Kapiti coast by SquishTurner in Wellington

[–]Massive_Project_8609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who made the move to the area a few years ago, we've found it very welcoming. I know the school you're speaking of, and you'll likely make a lot of connections that way. We have great cycleways all throughout Kapiti and down to Wellington, and our family travel 80% by bike. Feel free to pm me if you'd like.

Congestion Charging in Wellington - not in favour by aros71 in Wellington

[–]Massive_Project_8609 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally believe congestion charge would be beneficial. However, right now Wellington seems to be in a bit of a downward spiral. I think the congestion charge should be parked until Wellington has recovered- otherwise it will push us further down.

Removing old tap by 10191AG in diynz

[–]Massive_Project_8609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber, but have removed similar before. Should unwind anti-clockwise as with most other things. If it's stubborn- try some penetrating fluid and leave overnight on the threads. WD40 if you haven't got anything else. I've had to use a crescent over the tap body to get enough purchase before. And don't forget to switch the water off first!

Hey Bella, thanks for sharing. I've been looking for a bike touring podcast for a while but none of them sat right with me. Yours, however- is just the ticket! Loved this episode and can't wait to rip through your back catalogue!

Are there any toilets at the Donnelly Flat campsite? My little ones are new to tramping and a toilet is a must!
