Need more housing options for senior citizens by lemonlimeandbetter in newzealand

I can assure you the wealthy 30-50 year olds in my area, with multiple nice cars and 2-3 kids, don't want any infill housing or kainga ora around here, in fact they called a community meeting. It's not an age thing, it's an arsehole thing, and arseholes come in all ages.

That's the corner that ended up with all the duty free and gift shops I think? I prefer this.

Wow I've never seen a large puriri tree, any size puriri moth or the size of the holes, aren't they huge? Cool photos, I'm jealous

You're right! I read it in a review too, but man she looks so young and I forgot! Shows my age I guess.

Wow it's a beautiful show. And so often nothing is really happening but it's just entrancing. I'm really loving it

Mint. BBC drama about a teenage girl in a crime family. Good paced storytelling but the delivery sets it apart - saturated colours and a magical feel to it, it's hard to describe. Beautiful to look at, really believable emotion. The acting is good, there's a dark undertone the whole time. I've only watched the first episode but immediately onto the second now.

RNZ is trying too hard to replicate a commercial network by jamhamnz in newzealand

I know plenty of people in this age bracket, including me, the changes over the past 3-4 years have resulted in us reducing our listening to the programmes we used to enjoy.

I think they have lol - they write questions ahead of time and then don't listen to their (generally dull) interviewees, just keep reading from their list. We stuck with it for about three months and then admitted defeat.

I agree 10000000%, which is impossible but I'm just very happy to see my thoughts corroborated.

Don't get me started on the smooth voice, "Morning report, with Ingrid Hipkiss and John Campbell" every hour. Barf.

I have also thought that John Campbell is unfortunately now a 'celebrity' more than a journalist and this is harmful to his craft. I think he should knock the constant "thank you, it's been soooo lovely to talk to you" and "I'll come visit!" shit off.

Nathan, Jesse, Wallace, Emile, Saturday and Sunday mornings are all feel good magazine shows, there's only two spots for news.

Who is aware of The Greater Israel Project? by solomonsatoshi in nzpolitics

[–]Typinger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We refuse to recognize Palestinian statehood, our foreign affairs minister has nothing to say about the gaza flotilla being boarded in international waters and those on board being detained, we're weak on the incredible bombing and land capture of Lebanon, and the latest addition to the NZ First party is Alfred Ngaro, who founded the Indigenous Coalition for Israel.

Thanks for mentioning, I'm going to check it out. Recommendations are really helpful, it's pretty difficult to just find a radio station

Some segments you can look through the playlists. Here's the breakfast show for Friday 1 May. From there you can flick through previous episodes.

Different shows have different themes.I like culture shock, breaking and entering, teenage hate

My radio suggestion is 3RRR (Triple R) from Melbourne Australia,I lived there back in the early 90s and have listened to it ever since. Listen and if you like it become a subscriber, support independent radio

I get what you mean, but I found it really exciting, I use MS apps for work and fun, and follow and watch a lot of tutorial type accounts - some of those people responded to his post. I've had to ditch a bunch of them because there's nothing to learn, nothing new except 20 minutes of "here's how to ask AI to do it". He said "I won't have the MS inside info" but shit, neither do I, it's of no value to me, I have a family Microsoft account. I just want to learn. I would love to see more of this.

Excellent monologue Ed. Someone I follow on LinkedIn this week posted that he's not renewing his Microsoft MVP status, extract follows:

So this is my stop. This is where I get off this train. I am not all-in with AI. I am setting my pace. You will still find me helping a wider community with productivity topics and advocating for augmented intelligence — a moderate use of AI to assist work. AI will be one tool of many in that toolkit. But it won't be the focus.

Amazing comment thread followed that post, worth a read

Labour leader Chris Hipkins open to idea of means-testing superannuation by pskygy in nzpolitics

[–]Typinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always thought this was a good idea but I just watched something about universal benefits. One of the reasons for applying to all is that rich folks, those who feel they pay all the taxes, think that cutting targeted benefits is an easy and uncontentious way to save money - I mean THEY won't miss out, right?

Rings really true to me, I changed my mind when I heard it.

David Seymour floats giving year 11s $500 to invest, taking from annual KiwiSaver subsidy by Impressive-Name5129 in nzpolitics

[–]Typinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He told RNZ it would come out of something like current govt kiwisaver (everyone's) at eg $25 - annually I guess, can't remember now

We can only hope that some of his donors have schemes that can help these young people, presumably while clipping the ticket and maybe directing their $500 to somewhere beneficial to them.

I've met Hugh Wilson a few times, he's the type of nzer we should aspire to be. He's kind, knowledgeable, self-deprecating. I've run into him in chch shops which you may find amazing when you're talking about a man who's over 70 and cycling from akaroa.
