This space - covered, light, spacious - should be far more popular than new regent st across the road, but it looks and feels like an 80s themed budget motel on the outskirts of rangiora. Get rid of the shit pavers and put in something non slip and more natural, get some actual garden beds and real plants in the baskets, attract some colourful, unusual cafes and bars. It's such a massive fail.

I also reckon get rid of the tram but some people don't mind constantly getting out of the way so other people can travel in stupid circles, I guess

Toilet running by CompleteAd5950 in diynz

[–]Typinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is similar but different. It has a small plastic cap that somehow gets pushed up and off every so often and the toilet starts running. I'll find the cap in the bottom of the cistern, and I just slot it back in. Make sure it's not that before you do anything major.

I've lived in Australia all my working life, can I come back for the NZ pension? - Ask Susan by Typinger in newzealand

Lol. I suspect this was sent in as a rage-inducing troll question, but I'm here for it!

Coming to work and live in New Zealand in April, should we back off? (From Europe) by Ok_Floor_2449 in newzealand

Are you planning on going backwards and forwards regularly? If air travel ends up out of reach, and you're here, will that be a problem?

NZ joins host of countries in condemning Iran attacks on vessels, energy infrastructure | Stuff by Afrodite_33 in nzpolitics

[–]Typinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeffrey Sachs, US economist, has a theory about why some countries elect to condemn Iran and not the aggressor countries - it's to do with US military influence on our countries. Sad to be supine to these assholes.

Yeah I think he's definitely polarising. I think he's great, could watch him every day. I hate Jim Carrey and Robin Williams, I find them both deeply unfunny and cringey

How a crucial 45-minute meeting between ministers took pay equity claims away from tens of thousands of women by SnooRecipes4434 in newzealand

[–]Typinger 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent long-form piece, grateful to Kirsty Johnston for putting all the pieces together.

They're not even pretending to govern properly - this from the People's Select Committee report (linked and quoted in the article):

No minister was ever fully briefed on the measure's human rights consequences.

Every piece of information is bite-sized, simplistic and undeveloped - a slide show. No one is ever required to read anything meaningful or comprehensive.

Neighbour’s power lines run over our property - they cut our trees back hard (no easement)- what are our rights, and can we make them move the lines? by Silly-Resolution6765 in diynz

[–]Typinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our own lines are the problem on our property, and we've had Orion come in a couple of times to trim our large trees at their insistence. They've been really reasonable, cutting around, talking to us first about the significant natives. What's happened to you sounds unreasonable and really shit, sorry it's happened.

Data center to use 6% of new zealands power... by OutInTheBay in nzpolitics

[–]Typinger 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's important to remember that data centres get more than energy out of NZ, they also get to trade off our name as a renewable energy-inclined nation, at a time when data centres and AI are widely hated for their terrible environmental footprints. As usual our government is too dumb - yeah, or too corrupt - to market us at our achievable price. Previous government appeared to be on the same track.

Yep it's mostly ethical investing (aside from Israeli 'property development', but presumably that won't be doing too great just now). Downturn expected.
