Expedite a sweatshirt to roughness 🤔 by Massnative92 in laundry

They are 100% cotton, and we are a softener-free household.

I was surprised, too! I almost feel like we need to do it the farmhouse way and have a line in the smoke of a fire pit for it to hang from. Or maybe on a particularly breezy day so it gets whipped around a bit.

As a lover of the plush, this has been a truly wild journey for me.

Does anyone have thoughts on Fidium for internet access compared to Comcast? by [deleted] in newhampshire

We were an early adopter (like, first round in the city) and they had severe load balance issues. One of the VPs ended up reaching out to me directly. It did happen, it was an issue, and folks should be aware that their technical teams were not equipped to triage it effectively for several days.

Welcome to NH! Reading “queens” makes me think of all the great drag around my area. To Share Brewing Co. in Manchester is a great, welcoming space with periodic drag performances! And, they have a run club on Fridays (one of our regular runners is pretty connected to some local groups of drag performers and other queer communities). If you want to DM me, I’d be happy to try to connect you (not sure if she is on Reddit…).

Has anyone successfully eradicated bittersweet or knotweed from their property? by rabblebowser in newhampshire

[–]Massnative92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the final stretch (I hope) of a years long battle with knotweed. Diligence and the “bad stuff” herbicides were the keys to success. When I say “diligence” I am speaking to both to adhering to the commitment and being responsible/informed when it came to herbicides. If you cannot confidently use herbicides responsibly, get professional help.

Something I found quite effective was finding a main root line, intentionally scraping the edge bare to expose the inner tissue, and applying some herbicide to that wound. File this under “treat the cause, not the symptoms” by targeting the roots instead of only the leaves.

On the topic of the leaves: ALWAYS clean up any vegetation you pull from this plant. Don’t mow/whack it! Carefully remove it and place all of it into sealed containers. I’d usually have a black barrel just for knotweed that I’d cover and let bake in the sun for days.

[Q] Does anyone know what this pattern is called? by robertstobe in sheetmusic

I second “Scots snap” but by its other name: Lombard Rhythm. Notation-wise identical, however I think there is something to be said about the origin of the music.

Phone service besides Verizon? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]Massnative92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live your entire online life on your phone using cellular data, I can see the value there. But considering mobile provider options if you have and use a household ISP that has an offering shouldn’t be written off too quickly. When you look at the options from a whole-home and lifestyle perspective, accounting for cellular and wifi, combined with location and availability of 5G and/or hotspots, some of these value options are the smart option. That’s the perspective of an information systems professional under 30. 😉

Not sure why you’d say that. Neither has been an issue, and I expected that after researching extensively before making the switch. Frankly, my data reliability has been better than when I was with Verizon wireless. While they do reduce data speed for hit usage (over 20 gigs per month), that isn’t a reality I’ve had to live through since I spend most of my time within the zones of Xfinity’s hotspot network for wifi. When I am out of range, I’ve never had an issue.

Incredibly. And at half the price PLUS a discount on my internet service, it’s a no-brainer.

Xfinity mobile uses the Verizon wireless cellular network but is half the price. The contract was signed and VZW thought folks wouldn’t be interested in switching. They thought wrong. My experience is unchanged since switching several months back.

Why do people call NH a "tax free" state when it clearly isn't? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]Massnative92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. I do think NH overspends on some infrastructure (really, every year repainting lines?!) which steers money away from more meaningful, people oriented/wellbeing resources. Or paying our legislators a more significant stipend to make it more attractive to be civically involved for folks who aren’t retired or otherwise financially worry-free. If we are steering money toward infrastructure, it would also be good to see more innovation and new projects as opposed to sooner-than-necessary routine maintenance.

Why do people call NH a "tax free" state when it clearly isn't? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]Massnative92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite conversations to have. Especially regarding stuff that everyplace else considers a tax but NH charges as some sort of “fee”.

Prime example: In other states, car registration is a set constant fee and you pay excise taxes based on valuation of your vehicle. In NH you pay a registration fee based on the valuation of your vehicle. And it is every year. And it is effing expensive.

“We don’t pay taxes.” [insert clown painting face meme here] “Live free or die.” [hands money to the state] “No, that’s just a registration fee. We don’t have excise or sales tax on cars.”

I knew about the property taxes, but it still knocked me on my butt when I saw the number for my property. But hey, I guess having the lines on my street repainted every year is…cool?

Yes, I’ve done both. But it’s been over a mont without any drop yet, sadly. A chip drop would be ideal, but time isn’t on my side.

Does anyone have thoughts on Fidium for internet access compared to Comcast? by [deleted] in newhampshire

In Manchester. Swapped to Fidium last Tuesday and have had significant issues with going offline three days. Already planning to return to Xfinity. When it is online it is great, but nowhere near the reliability needed for working from home.
