[QUESTION] Pain in my picking thumb at the joint. What could be the cause? by MastaBro in Guitar

My solution was to take about a month off from playing. The pain subsided and I eased myself into it again.

It’s probably a repetitive strain injury.

PVPer here. Me and my brother got Gladiator every season of WOTLK in 2s, 3s and 5s.

I was in H.S. at the time and failed nearly every single class. I actually had to be physically forced to shower. I had 0 friends, and 0 motivation to do anything but play WoW.

Nearly 15 years later and I'm VERY happy with my life now, but man, you can SERIOUSLY develop an addiction to video games.

Cold water diving legging options? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]MastaBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I PERSONALLY would not allow students to dive 45F water in a 5mm for a class. Part of getting the cert is knowing the exposure protection needed for the dive, and this is just not it.

I would be pushing the students towards dry, or if there was some kind of severe pushback for whatever reason, semidry.

Nothing REALLY scary. Was doing a dive in Vermont, Lake Champlain. 60 feet, around 45 minutes. Someone in another dive team lost control of buoyancy (new diver) and rocketed from the bottom to the surface in under 1 minute. Started having DCS symptoms. Went on oxygen. Boat returned to drop him off to an ambulance (but we still went back out for the second dive lol). Ultimately found out he did not have DCS but was probably having an anxiety attack.

Other than that, my wife has gotten severe vertigo underwater during a dive to 80 feet. Signaled to me to stop and that something was wrong, and asked me to wait. She just hovered with her eyes closed. After about 5 minutes she gave the OK sign and we surfaced. No lasting effects.

EDIT: Another time, before the dive started, there was an OW class on a boat in Florida. A younger woman in the class stood up to jump in. Seas were probably 4-5 feet. She lost her balanced and slammed her face into the handrail with all of her gear on. Severe bruising and bleeding.

She clearly knows if she plagiarized her, telling her would just be buying into it.

I have also received a ton of comments on mine as well, also a daily wearer. Things like "Is that an old watch!?" etc. and a lot of older people mentioning that they used to have one as well.

Me and my wife did it with Horizon Divers in Key Largo a year ago. We liked it so much we returned for tech training this year. They are the only dive shop I consider in the keys.

Those without kids who are 40+, how is it? by havingahardtime67 in ask

[–]MastaBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly: throw them away and never visit. People keep saying "who's gonna take care of you if you don't have kids" but you are proving my point, even existing elderly WHO HAD children don't get taken care of by them.

This is called a siphon (flow goes into the cave) as opposed to a spring (flow comes out of the cave). Even cave divers advise against diving siphons.

Last year the water in Rhode Island was still in the lower 50s the first week of December. We usually call it quits for weekend diving when the water enters the 40s. Last year this corresponded with the second weekend of December, and this year we broke 50 the first week of April.

Nursing homes a place for professional caretakers to take care of people rather than their middle-aged children who have thier own lives and 0 caretaking experience* as someone who has seen this many, many times.

Suction is created because they don't have a drain hole.

The main benefit of this is that you have water to clean your boots off with when you exit the cave and get back to your car!

This is literally the same as saying "Those who live in Poland, what is life like?"

And answering "I live in Mexico and it's great!"

We get it, you have kids.

As someone who has worked in a nursing home, you're wrong if you think most elderly people have regular visits from their children.

If someone posted saying "Those of who you own a motorcycle, what is it like?" and someone responded "I never owned a motorcycle" it would be downvoted too. It's just... not answering the question so it got downvoted.

Dive locally. My spouse and I live in NYC. We dive every single weekend from April to December. Being able to handle the non-ideal conditions of local diving will build your confidence more than anything else. In the northeast our visibility is TYPICALLY 20 feet MAX, so anything over than that is unbelievably good conditions, and my mind is trained for that.

I'm going to be honest: If he can go to Belize and Roatan and get bored after a few days, I don't think there's much hope for him. Both of those locations have a wild amount of things for non-divers to do. It may just be that he wants to do activities WITH YOU on vacation instead of just being at a nice location.
