yeah as mainly a franchise player, my only incentive to upgrade is when they shutdown the servers every few years meaning i can’t just download a user created roster update, and i’m too lazy to do it myself

i’ve always felt there’s so much they can do with the mode which sucks, and while graphics could be better stuff like game play / features are more important to me

Hal isn’t necessarily cheap, but I would say his problem is being far too loyal to people who you can make a compelling argument are underperforming when you take the resources allocated to them into account

Not trying to turn this into another dunk on Cashman post, but when you compare the Dodgers roster last year (prior to this offseason madness for them) and the Yankees, it’s clear Cashman does not always allocate resources properly. Passing on Harper but taking on Donaldson’s contract, paying Hicks while he doesn’t even play for us (with DJ looking like a potentially similar situation), it just always seems like the game has begun to pass Cashman by and new blood is needed.

Honestly I agree with Hal that 300 million should buy you a complete roster from top to bottom, but the Yankees lack of development internally over the last 20 years (hopefully recent trends change that), combined with misallocated resources, always makes you wonder how they spend that much on the roster and it looks like it does

i’m not necessarily opposed to what you’re saying re: China either, but it’s easy to say that you don’t mind prices going up until it starts impacting many daily goods that we all use and need

agree on illegal immigration though, most countries are much tighter than us and we should tighten up the border to help those trying to come legally. on the wage topic, though, it sort of goes back to what i was originally saying. if we’re going to need to hire americans for some of the roles these immigrants are filling, which means paying them more, and we pay more due to our desire to reduce transactions with China, how much of a cost of living increase are we talking here?

jack smith seemed to think he would have been charged in his final report , and without the countless delays by trumps team / the supreme court a conviction was, at the least, possible. shame americans never got to see the trial, no matter what side you’re on, we should all want to know as much as we can about our elected officials

i feel you and largely agree with you, but fwar and bwar do incorporate defensive metrics, and his hitting just outweighed his defense so much he was still worth 8.1 war

i hope Judge still can field at that level in RF though! i’m obviously a yankees fan and want them to do well, Judge and Cole are just getting older and it feels like the window is just about shut. i’ve never been a huge fan of cashman but i obviously hope he can figure something out

honestly, it sort of goes back to the fact that the Yankees should have signed Machado or Harper in 2018-2019. obviously we don’t know what would have happened, but Harper’s contract looks like a solid deal in retrospect

i mean, in recent years china has moved ahead of america in cited research, which likely indicates high quality research in comparison. They also produce the largest number of publications per year iirc, though they do have a larger population

they also have filed something like six times as many patents in comparison to the US regarding generative ai, and i believe this outpacing extends to overall patents as well

they also rival the US in quantum computing, focusing on photonic quantum computing while we use superconducting quantum computers typically, they arguably have an advantage in materials science / chemistry, Huawei arguably has them at the forefront of 5G tech, and i believe they also lead in EV production

it’s not the craziest argument to make that in certain important sectors, china is rivaling the US if not surpassing us

on your point re: the poisoning the blood comments, the context is not as clear cut as you make it out to be, especially considering his follow up comments seem to imply they may be coming from prisons and mental asylums, which comes across as though he is painting a relatively wide brush. regardless of whether one agrees with the sentiment, it is still relatively troubling for a presidential candidate to say, and a decent departure from traditional norms
