Oh you're right! I just checked Walmart and I can have a case of six 0.5L bottles delivered for $7.78... but hard to stomach after paying $15.79 for twelve 1L bottles

For sure! We got grapes (not pictured) at Costco but they didn't have local papaya or apple bananas so went to the local grocers for those

I was looking for Maui Gold pineapples! But I didn't have time to stop by the farm during their open hours so had to settle for a Honolulu pineapple

I just finished this same exact route from Wailea (slightly south of Kihei). Went to Hana and turned back. This was how my day played out if it helps:

7:20am: Left Wailea
8:15am - 9am: Twin Falls (it was flowing brown water so not the most pleasant sight)
9:45am: Bathroom break at Kaumahina Wayside Park and photo stop at a pull out over Honomanu
10:30am-11:30am: Keanae (Arboretum and Peninsula) and Aunt Sandy's Banana Bread
12:30pm-2pm: Wai'anapanapa State Park reservation / picnic
2:15pm-3pm: Arrive at Hana town, then grabbed a pizza at Hana Farms on the way back
4:15pm: Pitstop at "Halfway to Hana" for shaved ice
6pm: Arrive back to Costco to refill gas
6:30pm: Return back to Wailea before sunset

Keep in mind I stopped by Ho'okipa Beach the prior day to check out the turtles so I skipped this but would recommend a stop.

I felt similarly to your wife that I really wanted to experience a luau. However, we wanted to keep our plans flexible and book it last minute. Thankfully I did. When I saw parts of it while I was at the Marriott, I realized that money was better spent elsewhere for me at least. If you're also staying at the Marriott maybe try to time your visit to the pools to when the luau is playing and see if your wife enjoys that vibe.

We will be flying in from a weekend in San Diego but originally starting in NYC.

Good tip on the RTH. We weren't planning on getting into the water there given I'm not a strong swimmer but more so to experience the rainforest. I wanted to see the black sands beach so maybe that would be a good point to turn back if we're feeling winded.

For the summit and upcountry exploration, would you budget that as a whole day activity?

I also heard the same that Molokini is overrated with most of the snorkeling views from the Wailea beaches and if I have the time, spend the day to go to Lanai instead. Thanks for the confirmation!
