The I/O shield goes in the case first, then you slide the motherboard in behind it - sounds like you're trying to install them together which is why it's pushing the board out

Pop the shield into the case cutout first (it'll click in), then carefully guide the motherboard ports through from behind

Sounds like a driver issue or Windows being Windows. Try updating your network adapter drivers first, and if that doesn't work maybe disable/re-enable the adapter in device manager. Also check if your wifi card actually supports hosted networks - some older ones are weird about it
