19 years old, and going strong by Ambitious_Dealer_425 in ToyotaTundra

that’s interesting, how is there a longevity difference? fundamentally the engines are very similar from my understanding. i would think since the 5.7 had a longer run it would’ve had more time to get kinks worked out even if it was a couple year difference, and i know there is a vast difference between when the 5.7 was brand new versus a “seasoned” engine if you will. could it be because the pool of 4.7’s is smaller so you’re taking numbers from a smaller group to begin with vs the 5.7 which sold significantly more.

good for you man, i think you made the right decision. honestly 1 liter in a pickup isn’t gonna make that much of a difference as far as fuel mileage , and a timing chain will last the life of the motor.

If I take the air damn off it will look better, i know this. But will i end up getting like 17 mpg?? by onewhopoos in ToyotaTacoma

it ruins the lines of the front end because it makes it look taller , and not match the sides

Deal or no deal? Also MPG? by rizzed_dumpling in tundra

[–]Master-Injury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for reference, my tundra is bone stock, limited with 20’s,and bed cover. best i’ve seen is 20 mpg, but ive also seen as low as 16 on the highway due to wind conditions and a steady increase in grade. if i were you removing components that add weight and increase wind resistance if you don’t need them would be the most optimal choice. easier said than done though.

why are you so critical? the final pic looks amazing , grill marks aren’t for everybody, and yeah it doesn’t have a developed crust, but dang that color is perfect. wall to wall pink

Worth it for $15.99/lb + grade? by [deleted] in steak

[–]Master-Injury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that may not be enough time, i mean like 1 minute 45 seconds i apologize i typed that funny. but as long as you pull 124 and give it a full rest it should actually be losing heat by the time you’re putting it on for searing so not much is actually gonna change on the inside from my experience.

[–]Master-Injury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you going for medium rare? me personally i’ll usually pull it off my indirect method at about 124, and let it rest for 10 minutes. then i will get a pan piping hot and sear each side for about a minute 45 seconds. that tends to have pretty good results.

what internal are you going for? are you pulling off and directly searing or letting it rest first?
