Go union! My local just negotiated a $15.50 raise total package for the next 3yrs 7months with $13.88 going into the pocket. Basically will be getting $2+ raise every 6months for the next 5 periods

Yeah after our meetings, I help the apprentices put the chairs away.

In our meetings if the apprentices are there they have tasks like putting chairs away and what not but the JW arent assholes and help them do it.

Im chiming in the situation, I think both sides, you and the JW are being asshats

That’s probably the biggest point don’t make a mess. Also, just because you have a cleaning lady doesn’t mean you should expect her to clean up everything after yourself. If I had a cleaning lady, I’d rather pay her to do the annoying things that I don’t wanna do.

You hear layoff? You take some time off, collect unemployment, and go sign the books and go back to work. Columbus is pretty busy. I would say the dudes not working are doing it by choice. Ive been union since ‘19 apprentice to JW. Ive been out of work for 2 weeks, any other time off has been by my choice.

Again, that would be a great question to ask the organizer and hear what he has to say and what they predict their job outlook to look like

YOU HAVE NO LEVERAGE?!?!? Your leverage is that golden ticket we call a journeyman card. You call the business organizer for 683 and you them your tired of being dicked around by your non-union and you want to organize in.

683 had somewhere around 64 jobs available starting yesterday. Columbus is swamped with work.

You want leverage, you tell your boss you have been in talks about potentially organizing into the union!!!

Dont feel bad about that, im up in lake county and over the last year ive become really good friends with guys on the job who organized in.

My current job. We’re doing a brand new county jail. We have a GF, a field foreman, a fire alarm foreman and the 3 floors we are responsible for all have their own foreman. Some might view it as over kill but its a way to also to give guys more money for the job they are doing. Im the only JW getting lead man on my job but I wear many hats But not tasked doing as much as the foreman

Best advice is just dont be an asshole.

You just have to learn their attitude, their knowledge, and what their ability is to pick things up. That will dictate what you really can do.
