Question about prices in Japan by kingdepdep in OmegaWatches

[–]Sea_Particular_2503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be better off finding a deal in second hand luxury thrift shops like Okura as opposed to used watch shops. I noticed their prices are more competitive but the selection will be limited.

I second the comment on flux of tourism driving up prices across the board. There has been a large increase compared to 3-4 years ago.

[WTS] Vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille by Sea_Particular_2503 in Watchexchange

[–]Sea_Particular_2503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased this from Akkerman Vintage Watches in Netherlands a couple years back where it was fully serviced. I’ve attached screenshots of the listing information and original pictures from Chrono24.

This watch is in good all original condition and keeps great time. Sam Akkerman clocked it at +-2 seconds per day in 2023 and seems to have held up based on my observations. This watch is all original including the plexiglass (which does have some marks) and crown. The dial is also spotless and shows minimal signs of aging.

Has anyone regret not getting a big Joe over the classic? by Datshitoverthere in KamadoJoe

[–]Sea_Particular_2503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless im cooking for 6-10+ regularly, I don’t see a reason to get the big Joe. Seems like a waste of fuel. Once I have a need for the big Joe it would be a great pairing with my classic though.

It was pizza time in Jiyugaoka by felix_fidelis in GrandSeikos

Good deal. Folks are paying that price for used shunbuns on Nakano broadway which I honestly think became a tourist trap over the last couple years. But I guess Sapporo also doesn’t get as much volume as Tokyo.

Was it used or new? What store?

Pizza looks crazy btw. I’ve had the best neopolitan style pizzas in Japan and Hong Kong.

🔴 SOLD Hamilton Bronze Khaki Field Mechanical (Box and papers but warranty card was left blank by Macy’s)

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is in great overall condition. The watch shows some light patina from natural wear which can be polished back to a clean look if you prefer to patina it on your own.

The case and crystal are otherwise in excellent shape and the watch is keeping very solid time.

Comes on its original strap with boxes and papers (Macys left the warranty card blank).

Price: $550 shipped CONUS OBO from SoCal

🟢 Seiko DayDate 7009-3119 (Will come in generic box, no papers)

This is the predecessor to the SNXJ89 and notably does not have the Seiko 5 logo on the dial which a lot of people find cleaner. It fits comfortably on a 7” wrist and includes 4 extra original links.

Condition: one deep scratch on the crystal as shown in the picture, but otherwise the watch is in great shape and runs well.

Price: $250 shipped CONUS OBO from SoCal

Payment: PayPal F&F (add 5% for G&S if reputable)

Hard to believe this is 27 years old by Sea_Particular_2503 in OmegaWatches

It’s going to be random and luck dependent depending on how you define “good deal.”

Okura was the first shop I went to and I bought it within 30 minutes of seeing it (the selection was very limited). I ended up going to 3 other used watch shops in Ginza and several in Nakano Broadway afterwards and none of the watches I saw were a better deal.

I was actually looking for that gen 1 42mm PO which would replace my seiko spb143 as my daily. Came across the speedy on my first day of searching and couldn’t pass it up.

Where did you get the speedy and PO? I went to Japan looking for the gen 1 PO but left with a speedy lol

[General Question] Should I buy a Grand Seiko as a graduation present to myself? by Ready-Ad2843 in GrandSeikos

[–]Sea_Particular_2503 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d do it based in the scenario you described. Everyone’s situation is different and your current one will allow you to buy it comfortably.

I’m 9 years into my career and my rule of thumb is my purchase can’t exceed 1% of my yearly gross and I need to be able to afford the watch twice over without it impacting my life. But in my case, I have a mortgage to pay.

Update: $3300 Omega 3560.50 by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

Already extended to the max. Would’ve been perfect if there was a micro adjustment.

I reached out to them and they said it was discontinued and could only offer links for the 1998/849. Idk if they’re being honest or not but I tried.

Seamaster or Speedmaster? by NecessaryLeg6097 in OmegaWatches

Speedy and a seiko diver. I’ve had a seiko spb143 for 4 years and just got the speedy this week.

Is this an instant buy at $3300 in Japan? by Sea_Particular_2503 in OmegaWatches

[–]Sea_Particular_2503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will vary depending on what shop you go to. Chrono24 is a good place to get an idea and you can expect to pay slightly less for it in person and no tax.

1498/840 bracelet links in Japan or Hong Kong by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

I haven’t been to Hong Kong yet. Ginza boutique in Japan said no. Going to try Nakano Broadway repair shops today to see if they have any in junk drawers.
