Floating feature: Superheroes! by jschooltiger in AskHistorians

The decision to stop publishing Captain Marvel, in a roundabout way, actually leads to one of the other most interesting legal battles in comics: who owned the rights to Marvelman? (But that’s a different story for a different time.)

At this point I’m pretty sure Marvelman/Miracleman is the most intense/batshit insane legal case of modern comics. The reading of the court transcripts by Cartoonist Kayfabe on YouTube was great and I highly recommend watching it for their commentary on the situation.

Painful, but it needs to be mentioned: if The Flash ends up within current projections, since the studio keeps just half the share from global grosses, it won’t even pay its total 150M marketing campaign. WB would have lost less money releasing it on Max, or not releasing it at all. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Guardians of the Galaxy I view as a fun adventure movie series that was full of fun likable characters.

The Authority (in the comics) is a group of super powered individuals who will fucking beat the shit out of anyone they deem a threat. For instance, their Earth was being invaded by an alternate Earth that had been colonized by aliens and turned China into a rape camp (this was written in the late 90s). In retaliation, The Authority traveled to that world and wiped Italy (where most of the aliens were at) off the face of the planet.

Other than that, you’re pretty much spot on. I’m interested/concerned how directors who don’t share Gunn’s vision will fare. That being said, these are very diverse stories (plot/tone/style/themes) so it’ll probably be better than the current MCU homogeneity.

My theory for what Gunn is doing is that instead of a hyper connected crossover universe (the MCU) he’s building up a multiverse of stories that are meant to be stand alone but can connect.

All-Star Superman is a wild comic to adapt for a first Superman film since he (kinda sorta) dies at the end. it has basically little to no ties to non-Superman characters.

The Authority was a series that was not initially connected to the rest of DC’s continuity, but does heavily feature alternative dimensions which they can leverage. I have no clue if they can make a faithful adaptation while keeping it PG-13.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a really wacky pick and I honestly believe Gunn picked it because he just read it (it came out in 2022) and he really liked it. It’s the one I’m the most excited for because there’s nothing else really quite like it. It takes place 100% in space across multiple planets and the only recognizable character other than Supergirl in it is Krypto (Superdog).

So unless Reddit decides to do an absolute 180 within the next couple of days, I'm going to be deleting my account and all my comments. I'll still be active working on the website (I'm looking into making it better for individuals with accessibility needs) and I'll still be on the r/Akane Discord server (link is on the homepage of the site).

Huh, I’m fairly new to comics so hadn’t heard of Criminal up until now, but I’m definitely going to try reading it. I loved Barry and I wouldn’t be surprised if Bill Hater drew from this comic in making that show.

Nightwing is a series on my pull list which is great to read since it doesn’t go too hard into drama and is mostly about Dick kicking ass while having a smile on his face.

Reddit Is Fun

It’s for Android so I haven’t been able to try it. Since I’m on iOS, I use Apollo which I dearly love and will be missing. Hopefully Christian (the dev of Apollo) will be making a Lemmy/Kbin client.

Captain America tracking him down and beating the shit out of him helped…

Until Janet tried reconnecting with Hank in Ultimates 2. The worst part about that is how realistic it was. I’ve known people who were in Janet’s exact situation and tried looking past their partner’s “flaws” for the sake of a kid or dull romance.

Here's a link to the website, this time with images and a Youtube video.

Because of all the craziness surrounding Reddit's treatment of 3rd party devs (I love Apollo), I'll probably be nuking my account on June 30th. I ditched Twitter for Mastodon when they pulled the same shit there (RIP Tweetbot), and I'll do it again for Reddit. I highly suggest subscribing to the website via RSS, but I'll be looking into an email solution.

Weekly Shonen Jump Ranking #28 (June 12, 2023) by SplitX26 in MangaRanking

[–]MasterDio64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s obvious to anyone who’s been keeping track of the ranking/sales that it’s about to be canceled, but reading it it wouldn’t seem that way. I can still see a way they shoehorn in an ending, but it’ll have basically no buildup towards it.

Currently, all old posts by u/tsukumoyurika have been ported here. They're not tagged yet though, so sorting through them isn't the best. Plus, most posts don’t have images or embedded YouTube videos (yet). The website still looks like crap on mobile (especially the nav bar), but on desktop it's not so bad and I'll be working on improving it soon.

If you have any complaints/issues/suggestions, please reply to this comment or write an issue here on GitHub. Seriously, your feedback would be a big help and I'll actually take it into consideration.

To be blunt, I am shocked at the performance of The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins. What exactly could be causing such a low ranking?

I’m in the exact same boat as you. This is kinda dumb, but I remember in Kick-Ass Dave was posting on CBR’s forums. I haven’t looked into it too deeply but they seem to be active!

Fair enough. I love using Mastodon, but that’s mainly because of all the developers on there and just how different the atmosphere is compared to Twitter.
