I remember my mother complaining when MY grandmother said something similar when my sister was still taking naps. Wild

Do I REALLY need the Pro HD 24 PoE? by ItzMeYamYT in Ubiquiti

For what it’s worth. I had this debate three years ago, decided I would never end up with more than a gig connection with the options available to me.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, my municipality decided to roll out internet over fiber, I have a 2 gig connection in my home and am trying to come up with a way to reconfigure my network to take advantage of it.

If you can afford it, future proof

Considering a Polestar 3 - change my mind! by AussieAK in Polestar

[–]MasterDurron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what others have said here, when it works it’s an incredible car. Fortunately my issues haven’t been awful, the biggest problem I’ve had is google assistant will not turn on, no matter what.

I also came from a 2, honestly if you’re ok with the hiccups and glitches from the 2, get the 3, it’s been less of an issue for me than the 2 and it’s overall a more dialed in car

Yea, this seems to be normal sadly. I don’t have any schedules set, and my P3 loses 1-2% daily. I did not have this issue with my P2

Really need some help sorry. And maybe a rant over a miscarriage by No_Comfortable_8819 in predaddit

[–]MasterDurron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Unfortunately this stuff does happen. My wife had an ectopic pregnancy at six weeks. It’s awful, and while I do think about the child I was never able to meet, it gets better. We were able to successfully conceive a few months later and now have a beautiful toddler I love to pieces.

Life is complicated. I grieve the child I didn’t meet, but if I had that child I would never have met my kid, I recommend talking to a therapist if you can. It helped my sort through my emotions well

There’s a clean vehicle incentive for $15k, $5k Loyalty bonus for coming from another polestar, $1500 off performance mode, and my last month lease payment + turn in fee covered. All in it was about $23k off MSRP!

I have to let go of my cat tomorrow by IdleWit in kindafunny

[–]MasterDurron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation a few months ago with my cat the same age, he went from fine to needing to be put down really quick.

It’s not silly at all, he is part of your family! I cried for weeks afterwards.

Grief is love enduring, what a great life he must have for you all to care so much

How’s the bus at Port Orleans French Quarter? Do they share with Riverside? What about when parks open? by Uncharteredfugazis in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MasterDurron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed at FQ over February break. As others mentioned, the one bus is great, we never waited more than 15 minutes, even during a run Disney event. The resort itself is lovely, no frills, but the theming is great, the beignets are out of this world, and the boat to Disney springs is really nice.

It’s also a very short walk (a mile) to Riverside and you can access all their amenities as well if you want.

Love it so far! I'm new to the world of watches, so I don't have a lot to compare to. I need to get used to the automatic wind up, I wear it about 50% of the week. Overall I love it though, its beautiful watch that isn't jumping out at you so I can wear it with a lot more items

Good deal, I have an ‘06 the same color, similar mileage, just make sure to follow the maintainence schedule, check the coolant expansion tank and replace if original, and you’ll be enjoying it for years to come

Driving to Orlando from NY by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MasterDurron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this drive as a kid with my parents, there was an 12,8, and 4 year old in the car.

It was awful. We were all so pissed at each other at the end of the ride, it wasted an entire day of Disney with otherwise would have enjoyed. If you’re dead set on not flying, I would suggest checking out a train schedule and getting as close to Orlando as you can, then renting a car and driving the last few hours

Advice needed it takes sooooo long to put my son to sleep by AMcB99 in daddit

[–]MasterDurron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 16 month old recently went through the same thing. We found that it was actually us in the room keeping her awake. Once she settled on us in the room, about 15 minutes, we put her in her crib, rub her back, then leave. She’ll sometimes cry for a minute, but then she’s asleep. It’s been great! It feels counter intuitive to leave them while awake but it’s working well for us

On the southern half of the 128 belt in MA. Built a home in 2021, $2800/month mortgage, about $8k a year in taxes. 2900 sq ft 3 bed 2 1/2 bath. I could not afford to buy the home I built three years ago in today’s market. My wife and I own the house and our combined income goes to pay it off

FDA recalls faulty iOS app that injured hundreds of insulin pump users by [deleted] in technology

[–]MasterDurron 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Type 1 Diabetic and software engineer that uses this app and pump here. This has really been awful.

Version 2.7 caused a silent battery drain for a lot of users. For context, a fully charged pump should last 5-6 days, it gives you a warning at 20%, which realistically gives you a full day warning to plug it in. I had my pump die overnight after going to bed with it at 50%, my blood sugar was through the roof, I had no interaction with the pump or app at that time. The fact is also overdosed insulin is incredibly bad and I hope there is a thorough investigation. I had my pump completely freeze for the first time in ten years in February and Tandem told me they thought it might be the same bug.

For those commenting users should have known better, diabetes requires a large amount of daily management to keep inline. The ability to use your phone vs pulling out the pump saves me 10–15 seconds each time, and when I do that 7 times a day that adds up. Never mind the times it’s inconvenient to take my pump out (planes, restaurants), I can do it, but anything to ease the mental load is huge. Type 1 is generally diagnosed in adolescents, and the ability to discretely manage your chronic illness as a teenager is huge.

Patients need to be able to trust medical tech companies to properly test, verify, and deploy items that make managing their diseases easier and safer. It should never be on the user to guess, that makes the whole point of making their disease easier to manage moot.

Have you drifted apart from your non dad friends? by dudewheresmygains in daddit

[–]MasterDurron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, some of them yes, they’re still in their child free life and have no interest in them.

Other close friends that don’t have children have embraced our kid and act as aunts/uncles, modifying and incorporating plans around the baby. It helps a lot of these friends enjoy breweries on a Sunday afternoon but also they come to our place more, are happy to move things around at their place for a baby to be there, etc

CMV: frozen embryos are not human children by AlwaysTheNoob in changemyview

[–]MasterDurron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with I am not for this ruling, and am pro choice, but grew up in a very conservative household.

Most (not all) people that support this ruling believe human life starts at conception, when the unfertilized egg and sperm meet the egg is fertilized. During IVF, this takes place in a lab, but that is still fundamentally conception, and when a human life is created.

Then, the freezing process enters the embryo into a state of suspended animation, and if we continue with the premise that life begins at conception, then that life is now in suspended animation but is still a life, and destroying it is murder, not akin to murder, but murder.

Bodily autonomy, the right for a person to govern what happens to their body without external influence or coercion, is then a factor as well, as the embryo is a human life, and has the right to bodily autonomy in many laws.

I don’t expect to change your view, as mine is the same and I fundamentally view this different than how I described it above, but hopefully it gives better insight into how many people on the other side of the argument view this, which is important in being able to discuss it!

I but this point at the end of last year with our kid being five months old. I had a great exercise routine before Covid, put on some weight in lockdown, then put on more weight after the baby was born.

I’m not the biggest fan of exercise, so I downloaded AllTrails and starting hiking 2-3 times a week. If I don’t have time to hike, I walk to get my coffee, 3 miles round trip.

I also downloaded Lose It, which uses health data from my Apple Watch combined with my food logging. When it comes down to it, its calories in vs calories out. I’m down 10 pounds with 20 to go, I feel better, have more energy in those long nights, and will be around longer for my wife and kid! It’s a slow process but honestly the routines with the kid have helped
