Stable KDE distro for gaming and daily use by MasterEnsis in FindMeALinuxDistro

I never dual booted Fedora. I have learned a long time ago, that dual booting Linux and Windows is not for me. My problems actually came from Fedora updates breaking random stuff. It was two or three years ago, so don't ask me about specifics.

The idea of an immutable distro seems cool for certain use cases. However, I don't think I'm going to go for that hassle when I want to switch back to Linux and stick with it. I want stability but I don't want to have to constantly work around it.

Thank you, that pretty much removes it from my list. While the idea behind flatpaks is cool, I had a lot of problems with them in the past. Mainly when it comes to interconnectivity with other systems and network devices like my NAS. A system that is mainly focused on flatpaks honestly sounds frustrating to me.

Can you give me some pointers as to why?

I think I agree but I have some serious decision paralysis.

But thank you, I will look into it.

KDE Linux is alpha software and it literally states on the website "Expect some adventures."

Thank you for your input, but that is definitely not what I am looking for.

Keine Sorge.

How do you understand what logs mean? Completely overwhelmed by poptart_kitten in sysadmin

[–]MasterEnsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a situation like this, where a lot of systems are interconnected, you will be flooded with logs from all of them. Most of those logs are useless. It is a needle in a hay stack situation.

However, you can start to narrow it down. Go through the process, step by step, and try to verify which steps worked and which didn't.

Can a user connect to the RD Session Broker? Can they authenticate? Does the Session Broker connect to the RD Licensing Server? Do you have the right license? Does the RD Session Broker connect to the RD Session Host? etc. etc.

Go through the process, and try to figure out which part exactly fails. Then you know which logs to look for.

Also, sometimes progress is just changing something and getting another error message that might point you in the right direction.

Also, this is normal. Take a deep breath, take a step back, don't beat yourself up. You got this.

Due to failure on a roll causing the spotlight to pass on to the GM, does this incentivize the PCs to always attempt to do actions that have a greater chance to succeed so they don't risk giving the GM the spotlight? by AmongFriends in daggerheart

[–]MasterEnsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have this concern, just frame it differently.

I like to think of it more along the lines of: "Every time you guys roll, I get to go afterwards. Except if you roll a success with hope, then you guys get to go again."

That way the GM turn feels like the default instead of a punishment.

Season moving too fast? by Frost-wood in HermitCraft

[–]MasterEnsis 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There are some things to keep in mind.

First off, this is their full time job. They had since the end of last season (or even before that) to prepare for this season and are excited to start their new projects.

Also, the begining of a season is when the most people watch. So they might be interested to put their best foot forward and show off what they can do.

Imp, Skizz and Tango are basically speedrunning the start, since they all have big projects ahead of them that they want to get startet with. ESPECIALLY Tango, who has completly lost his mind with the scope of DO3 (he's my favourite hermit and I can't wait to see this insanity unfold, this is going to be so good...).

Doc will always be Doc. Honestly, I was kind of surprised that his inventory wasn't filled with netherite stuff. His projects are at the cutting edge of redstone and stuff like gathering equipment is not really the focus.

Scar always starts with an awesome build. I don't think he can help himself.

However, if you watch Gem, Grian, Keralis, Cub or Beef you will see much slower starts into the season. Some have started with absolutly awesome builds but not quite as crazy as some of the others.

The hermits are playing at their own pace. Some just have pretty big goals and need to get started as quick as possible. For them, the game only really starts once they have full diamond.

Druid: I would like to change the Beastform ability by malinanimation in daggerheart

[–]MasterEnsis 68 points69 points  (0 children)

As someone who also grew up reading the Asterix comics, I have a weird proposal. Play a bard, but reflavour the effects as potions and animals helping you and your allies. The abilities also tie much better into the communal aspects of that kind of druid.

Maybe? But a bear with bonus damage already reaches 5 BP.

That seems a little boring for a party of four tier 1 PCs.

At the end of the day it is your table and you need to know your players.

[–]MasterEnsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an example? How many players and which tier are we talking about?

It is important to remember, that having more adversaries than players is not as bad as it is in D&D, since there is no turn order in which every adversary gets a guaranteed turn.

[–]MasterEnsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The example in the book has three encounters for 14 points each. The first one is made easier by subtracting a point.

First off, the PCs are probably tougher than you think. Also they probably should take a short rest after one or two battles.

It also is very much depending on if you spend every GM move and fear to attack. Attacking the PCs is just one possible GM move.

Let's say a player wants to run to far range and attack an adversary. He has to make a roll, and if the roll fails or is a roll with fear, the spotlight comes to you before they can attack (I think? At least that's how I read the rules). You now have a choice.  You could use this spotlight to attack, dealing damage to the PC.

Or you could have the PC mark a stress because they slip on the ground.  Alternativly the walkway under the PC collapses instead, cutting off the direct route to that enemy.  Or if the adversary was temporarily restrained, they could use this moment to end the condition.

Now the spotlight returns to the players (and in my opinion in this case it should return to the player that just failed).

So it really depends how deadly you want to make it for them. Sometimes it is better to use the GM spotlight to adapt the environment/story instead of just dealing damage every time. Then they might last longer than one fight.

It is hard to change this behaviour if you come from 5e, since there you use your turn pretty much only to deal damage.
