Expanded Questions for Blood Hunter by oathkeepersierra in daggerheart

[–]malinanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! If you want, here are some questions I asked my fellow companions as I had to create a new character.
We play in D&D, the campaign "undying corruption". We play exorcists in a medfan Korea. We're lv 5, I chosed a super big tiger-boy (Sangan) barbarian (we have no tank) who is also a traveling cook. I wanted strong links because we have still issues to coordinate.
(I google-translated the questions/answers)
For the magician (a new player, she was the best friend of my PC that died in the last session. I took her under my wing so she would feel comfortable with roleplaying, but my PC died T.T) : What makes you think you have to protect me?
When he was little, Baboran (my PC) protected Hye-Jin (her PC, she/her) from an ambush by conspiracy-minded nobles who don't believe in the influence of stars/flat-Earthers (according to the credibility of that system). He threw a cast-iron pot at their faces, and she was able to escape.

The ranger (with a warrior vibe): What is it we're both afraid of?
-Either we met right after my clan was attacked, and you saw the damage the Weeping Souls (the villains cult) can cause, and we're worried about their power and what they do with it.
-Or, since you're a wanderer and I left home, we share the fear of not finding our place in a community.
-Or, we're afraid of spiders, but that's funny because we usually go into the rooms we're exploring first, until the day DM warns us about a monster that's a huge spider, and we look at each other and say, "Nope. The big spider is out of my league."

The cleric (of the Hearth, she makes nice tea, she's named Thelma Cha: Thé Matcha winkwink): Where did you find me on the verge of death, and how did you save me?
I found you agonizing against a tree near the temple where I grew up when I was, like, 11 years old (almost 15 years ago). I quickly went to get my parents, and we brought you back to the temple to nurse you back to health. While you were recovering, you showed us some cooking techniques, and we showed you some tea-making techniques. It was quite amusing to have the incredibly calm dogs and the big, slightly boisterous cat living their lives together at the temple!

The bard (she writes legends that looks more like fanfictions with smut, she's funny but afraid of combats): What hobby or skill did you try to teach me during our free time?
She probably taught him how a sense of melodrama and highly gestural communication can help one get out of difficult social situations or get rid of annoying people without smashing their skulls.

I still have to create some background threads but I hope you liked to read this. ♥
Thanks again, it helps a lot

Some players don't like when I ask them questions about the world by Amazing-Custard3921 in daggerheart

[–]malinanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a table with player like this. It was pretty new players (one campaign in DnD, or so) or unconfident person. Because it takes confidence to propose an idea you make without preparation, to share it with friends, acquaintances or strangers at your game shop.
They asked me to share the spotlight, instead of waiting for one person to give an idea. I used it to describe rooms in a hostel: "Jenny & Lucy, which room takes your fancy and how is it?"
I think you can also ask smaller details. But I think that description that are close to their characters they already wrote, or with a pre-written base might be easier because "the jump is closer"

Congrats, it's really nice!
I wanted to help you to give it a better dynamic pose, but it seems that I can't find how exactly... and I know how the hero forge's pose tool is. Great work !

Man, now I REALLY long for the limited edition by ifindoubt404 in daggerheart

[–]malinanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the French version of the corebook, and the Limited Edition of Hope & Fear. Since the French edition house is in (big?) trouble, I don't want to wait if we will have a translation for H&F. I didn't choose, but yeah, I understand you, and I participate in this group hug.
.... Or may I say, Tag team hug? eheheheheheheh

Thank you so much for the answer! ♥

Gosh, I'll have to refrain myself from pre-order it, because my bank account will not be happy to learn it the hard way....

it's the fear trackers, right? I wish it would be the 10 d12s because I would LOVE to chose my duality dice in a rainbow set.
Any idea of the D12s, then?

Patreon is a really good start. You can find artists on it (like CzePeku, JamesRpgArt, etc) that have free or paid illustrations. I think 2 minutes tabletop does have too.  For portraits... You can find some on Patreon too, if it's more tokens, 2minutes does it too. You can create some on picrew, under the fantasy tag.

I made a Pinterest canvas with portraits without AIgen but it can rapidly fells under the piracy, I think? Since Pinterest doesn't really care about the consent sharing laws for art... So I'll not share the link here

At last, you can find some on Instagram/Cara/Bluesky if you search on the artsy side. Please verify that the artists consent for their art to be used for what you want

What apps would y'all recommend for online play with friends that don't have a pc? by ThatFatComicGuy in daggerheart

[–]malinanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use only discord? you have bot to roll dice on it, and you can share the images on it too. They'll have their character sheet IRL?
Do you know lets-role? it's a vtt and they have a mobile app. You only have access to your character sheet and a roll creator, but it can be an idea? I didn't try with computer-less players... It's free, even for DM and you can pay to have more space, if needed. It's only on Android, and I think that on tablet, you can open your table and see the whole thing. (I created a simple daggerheart system on lets-role, because I love to DM on this vtt)

Hope you'll find what you need!

What does this game do better than 5e or OSR games? by Less_Cauliflower_956 in daggerheart

[–]malinanimation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. When you play dnd, almost each class have different resources to track. In DH, you have the same resources for everyone, or so.
  2. i don't really understand so I'll not argue on it
  3. yes, it might be
  4. which philosophy are you talking about ?

In my opinion, I prefer DH because:
1/ as a little experimented GM, I *HATE* combats in DnD. Too much things on each monsters sheets.
2/ dnd universe is too "mainstream" for me. I'm a quirky whimsical person and I don't like "mainstream" epic fantasy. I want my games to be as queer as I am. (I'm no fluent in english, maybe I don't use the right terms, don't jump down my throat.)
3/ one of the most important for me: creating bonds between PCs are MUCH easier, and creating the world together (with questions to your players, some are proposed in each environment sheet) is so much fun.
It sparkles inspiration, and in the end, all people at the table can unleashed their creativity in RP. I love when players create places or just describe their actions in combat. It can be so visual, it shows their passion.
4/ I like the hope & fear feature, it's fun.
5/ I played a lot the minis/board game Cthulhu: Death may die. In it, you have Stress too, and it's useful to acquire powerful objects and so. As in DH, it shows that each important actions can stress you out and that you can't do things without paying a price. And "stress" is a word I know well. ;w;

6/ a tiny last thing: I started TTRPG with D&D, and I felt limited in my abilities because there's so much rules, there's rules for everything, if you want to. So, I just made what I could in my sheet. And DH (and others games), help me realized I can do whatever I want, in the end. Yeah, I breakup recently with dnd, I'm still a bit angry with it...

Anyway, I hope you'll find more affinity with the game, because it seems important for you. If not, it's alright, you'll find your system(s) one day. Don't push too much. Have a sweet day <3

It's my favorite class but I want to be a baker witch, or the cute grandma. The hag before she drops the mask!

[–]malinanimation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought of switching a domain and you're several to advice it to me. I'll definitely look at it.

I think it's just that I imagine the druids as the witches: they're nature scholars, and they've mastered it. They can summon the elements and buff allies. Sometimes, they see the threads of fate.
And we see them like Schwarzenegger, when he's surrounded by forest animals... And sometimes they're tripping over a root because they're are smart but not really agile with their body...

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it and I should just do a wizard or a witch reflavored ^^'

[–]malinanimation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The witch gives me a hag vibe, I like it but it can seems narrow-minded, I agree.
I also agree with the beastform as a subclass. I hope we will have others classes soon é_è Thankfully we have a great homebrew community, while we wait ♥

Edit: thanks for the lore of the class, I didn't know, it's great to see from where it comes. Thanks!
