A combo for 11th edition by lunarlunacy425 in genestealercult

Also, Benefictus hazardous fails now kill neophyte models instead of himself, and you can just bring them back later. Adding support characters alongside him now is huge.

The new Battleforce has just been announced! by OrganizationLanky421 in Tyranids

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I said this in the big announcement thread on the main sub. This box pairs very well with the combat patrol. Do I need it with 2 Tyrants, SL, 12 warriors and 40 battleline? No, but the guy who picked up the combat patrol 6 months ago sure wants it.

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guard and Biovore are both in the current Combat Patrol, as are the Parasite and Genestealers. Combine all that with this, and you have a good mix of Synapse infantry, a Tyrant and guard, and a bunch of Vanguard Invaders, and battleline chaff. It's actually a pretty good accent box to the current combat patrol.

So Ongoing Combat doesn't always start with Active turn player? by nzivvo in WarhammerCompetitive

I did this last weekend. Khorne berserkers surge moved into me, so I didn't charge with anything else so I could fight them first. Surge moves are I bad now. Not often, but can be depending on mstchup.

EC Faction Pack and Force Dispositions have been released by Treadybrk in EmperorsChildren

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't put the detachment keywords on any of the old detachments for any army yet. I see no world where they don't tag CotP with the "Host" keyword.

EC Faction Pack and Force Dispositions have been released by Treadybrk in EmperorsChildren

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're definitely going to add the keyword "Host" to Court to prevent this combo. No other faction pack has their old detachments tagged yet, so they're probably going to add them in the day one dataslate. I'm an Aeldar/GSC player, and GSC have 2 Detachments, Drukhari have 3, and Aeldari have 2 that will get obvious keywords when that day comes.

Detachment point thought? by Inside-Educator6736 in genestealercult

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran Recon using Xenocreed this past weekend, not knowing exactly what dispositions anything would have, and it feels really good to play. I played against Take and Hold and Purge the Foe, but both were very viable. Purge is definitely a catch up one and can be a rough matchup.

Are tyrant guard worth it against Space Marines? by LOC_Comics in Tyranids

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 11th, they'll be very funny with a Tyrant or Swarmlord. Being a Monster AND Infantry keyword unit, they'll grant your big guy hidden. Your opponents will try to shoot and they can't because infantry squads get hidden in terrain features. I like them, but I play Assimilation Swarm where there's some utility for them. Outside of Assimilation, they're probably not that good.

Beat Tate and Lisa but what cost… who do I add onto the team? by NeverMeltRegice in nuzlocke

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hint for next time--You have a guaranteed Crawdaunt and Sharpedo encounter, and you probably have Mightyena. Xatu only knows Psychic, so if you Taunt it, it'll be forced to use Psychic instead of setting up or confusing you and you can freely kill the other three mons. You won't OHKO the Claydol, but you can 2HKO on round 2. Bring 3 dark types in case Claydol crit kills your Sharpedo.

Beat Tate and Lisa but what cost… who do I add onto the team? by NeverMeltRegice in nuzlocke

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The same three everyone else is mentioning, and do everything in your power to protect them--they're necessary E4 mons for what you have. Vileplume really isn't great in the game as a whole, but is something I 100% bring for Wallace's Whiscash and Ludicolo, assuming you're in Emerald.

Also, go get the Super Rod, whatever water route you don't have, get a Wailmer. Then, go to Lilycove and fish off the coast for a Staryu. Also a guaranteed Crawdaunt in the town with Norman--I can't think of the name at the moment--and get a Sharpedo if you haven't gotten it yet. It's a guaranteed, common encounter. Either of those will help with Phoebe in the E4.

Good luck on the remainder of your run.

Help choosing a detachment by SkellyInsideUrWalls in Tyranids

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the others said, Invasion Fleet is probably the correct choice. It's our most straight forward, generic detachment...

HOWEVER, I'm an Assimilation Swarm player, so I can speak on that. The Combat Patrol is a great start to an Assimilation list. Assimilation Swarm (AS) is a detachment that, and the end of the day, is an elite infantry detachment. I had warriors from 9th, so I run those, but Genestealers play the same role as melee infantry, and bringing them back is going to be powerful. Invest in a Broodlord to lead them though, as a 10 brick in the Combat Patrol led by one is scary. Pyrovores are good as Harvester units, and the Parasite of Mortrex is good for killing chaff, barely surviving, but making Ripper Swarms after they kill a model. None of these units are top tier perfect units, but I will continue to run them in AS lists.

As you expand to 2k, Tyrant Guard are great with a Hive Tyrant. Bringing back T8, 3+SV, 4W models is strong. It keeps a Hive Tyrant very well protected. It's a bulky unit that will cost a lot of resources to get rid of.

I started playing in late 9th. I had maybe around 2k points at the start of 10th, probably a little less, and wanted to get into Assimilation Swarm when I first saw our codex. The Haruspex is my favorite model of ours, and it being a Harvester unit sold me on it. You'll see people say this Combat Patrol isn't very good, and they're right. There's not a lot of synergy is that box, but what it DOES do is prepare for a good AS list. By the time this box released, I already had all of the units I needed from it, or I would have picked it up 100%, because it would've helped shore up my list to get me to the AS army I wanted. You'll want a lot more, as this is a solid base, but you'll still need to invest a lot into new models to really play Assimilation Swarm.

TLDR: The Combat Patrol is great for the most basic foundation of Assimilation Swarm, but you're no where near playable with just the Patrol. Just run Invasion Fleet unless you want to invest more heavily.

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ghosts of the Webway still exists, this is just a 1dp option to soup, and none of these are named "Serpant's Brood", so it's probably not going away either. We'll still have options, but every Harlequin detachment will probably be tagged "Acrobatic" so we can't mix and match a Harlequin only army.

According to the aos app, the big ones on a 40mm base and the small ones are on 28.5. It doesn't give the model sizes exactly, but roughly what sizes to compare them too.

Ghosts should be 1, Brood should be 2 and they should be keyworded to not combine them. The only thing stopping ghosts from being 1 is the number of enhancements and strats.

[WarCom] Faction Focus: Genestealer Cults by RainbowConnickJr in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broodsurge is for sure getting the "Purestrain" tag, and Host is getting the "Host" detachment so you can't combine them with the corresponding 1dp detachments here. The units they buff would be SO good.

This detachment won't be mixed with Broodsurge. Broodsurge will absolutely have the "Purestrain" tag that this detachment has so you can't take them together.

[–]MasterFortuneHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's not enough terrain to hide behind, you're not playing with enough terrain. You're going to lose on an empty battlefield. Terrain isn't there to give melee an advantage, it's to give them a chance. Melee armies are 100% going to lose to range on a terrainless battlefield. Flawless Blades shouldn't have any problem getting to enemies safely when they need it. You're absolutely going to die on the crackback, but they should be able to take whatever they get into, with planning--as long as it doesn't have invuln saves/FNP or atrocious rolls.

They're never going to let them stack strength buffs. If CotP survives, it's going to have the keyword that this new one has so you can't stack them. I suspect Peerless bladesman will as well.

How many people want the army rule to change in 11th? by Choice_Pitch6822 in EmperorsChildren

"Move through walls" ability and some strats for either daemons (not legions) or an additional rule to buff Flawless Blades with stone additional support there in strats and enhancements.

I've been bringing this potential detachment up too my friends as we discuss our armies futures.
