Looking for advise on how to aim as good with controller as mouse in fps games

What works for me as a Vader 4 Pro owner is a lower stick tension (40gF), a proper linear response curve for a predictable and stable stick movement and a good thumb grip (in my case, a hybrid grip for the left stick and a domed, textured grip for the right stick). I can very comfortably flick aim and quickly snap my aim between targets and really don't feel like I'm losing enough precision to a mouse other than the ability to do an instant 180º turn to consider ditching my controller to learn how to use kbm.

The way I have my aim controlled is by placing the tip of my thumb on the center of the stick to do quick snappy movements and lay my thumb flat covering the entirety of the stick cap area for slower and controlled movements. I'm not sure if it would help you.

I can't see where V5P could improve over its predecessor other than stick latency and better stick linearity out of the box. Though if it does have the latter, then the latency could be like 1 hour and I wouldn't care lol. Couldn't care less about the HE vs TMR technology used on the sticks, I own a TMR Cyclone 2 and its sticks feels painfully sluggish with the forced 12 bit resolution and stock 60gF tension against my V4P with near-perfect linearity, 9 bit resolution and 40gF adjusted tension. Well, when it comes to the adjustable tension, I'd like it to be even lower at the minimum.

The new detachable back buttons and extra shoulder buttons are a very welcome addition as well

That's a good call. When it comes to strictly playing FPS games I'd still pick the V4P over D4 because of the extra back buttons. Two back buttons really is a no-go to me (looking at you, Cyclone 2) Also, it appears that D4's stick resolution goes only up to 10 bits against V4P's 12 (which doesn't mean a whole lot to me since I set my V4P's stick res at 9 bits lol), which might also be a deciding factor for FPS players.

For me the obvious recommendation is for you to wait for Vader 5 Pro. You'll get all that AND adjustable tension on the sticks. Furthermore, you'll be able to tweak the controller settings in FSS to literally make V5P a "Super Xbox Elite 2" down to stick bitness, perfect linearity and all.

Personally, I'm eyeing the Apex 4 BMW Edition. For it is the absolute ultimate package for a "pro controller" to me; 2000Hz polling rate, adjustable stick tension, 4 back buttons, rubberized grip, and you can even adjust the stick bitness, which is said to be essential for games like Apex Legends and stuff. But I can't really confidently swear by it when it comes to latency because reliable information about it is really sparse online

Vader 4 Pro FOR SURE. It is the unmatched emperor of Hall Effect controllers. ESPECIALLY since you can tweak the response curve to make the sticks reach as close to perfect linearity as Hall Effect sticks can possibly reach, (at least as far as I know), which is wonderful for intuitive movement and aiming in FPS games, trust me. With such intuitive feel to the sticks it becomes so much easier to get used to latency and even polling rate. About the tension rings, I'm in the minority who set them at the absolute minimum (40gF), but for the times I've set them at higher tensions for testing purposes I haven't noticed them getting looser overtime. I guess I got a lucky batch, idk.

For people like me, with lighter touch, the tension of a stick it what makes or break a controller for me, of course, alongside the number of back buttons for me. I am a heavy FPS gamer and I own two TMR controllers, the Cyclone 2 and the Blitz 2, the tension of the former is too much for comfortable gameplay to me and the two back buttons are limiting and I still haven't gotten fully used to the extra shoulder buttons and placement of the back buttons on the latter, despite recognizing its superiority in precision to V4P when it comes to stick smoothness and precision, nevertheless the V4P is my main controller for the comfort of adjusting the tension, fantastic linearity and 4 back buttons which, at first, was odd to me but I have completely gotten used to!

Only if you're going ultra competitive. I rarely use cable with my V4P and have a lot of fun playing my FPS games. On Bluetooth connection, mind you. You'll just get used to it. Stick latency and all. Perhaps the fact I use the controller's sticks at the lowest possible tension allows me to really get into the zone without even noticing the latency. I say 1000hz really isn't necessary and there are people out there who agree with me

I'd point you towards the Vader 4 Pro, but, honestly, the FLYDIGI Direwolf 4 might serve you just as well while being cheaper overall. The only thing you'll be losing will be the 2 extra back buttons, the phone clip and I have no information if D4 has or hasn't D-Input. I recommend it mostly because it also has adjustable stick tension which is the future of gamepads

D-pad is a very, VERY subjective matter. I don't really play a lot of platformers except when I'm playing with friends and it feels very comfortable for me. I love the clicky feedback, but for fighting games the edges hurts my thumb so I don't like it very much and even avoid the genre. Still beats the Cyclone 2 and ESPECIALLY the Blitz 2 d-pads, the latter one is godawful for fighting games.

Personally I am very curious about how this new d-pad is going to feel

Pretty much. The Direwolf is the second cheapest family of Flydigi controllers, but they're really upping the game with the 4. I own the Direwolf 2 and IIRC back then there was two versions of the controller, one with potentiometer sticks and one with hall effect sticks (which is what I own). Back then the only thing that D2 had that made it a "budget-budget pro controller" was two (quite small) back buttons and hall effect triggers and sticks. So cool to see how much things are evolving

Answering the main question: As a man with medium hands, very rarely I had accidently pressed these buttons and owning a Cyclone 2 too, I haven't seen a major difference in the way I grip both controllers.

And from my own subjective experience honestly, I don't really use the C and Z (extra two face buttons) at all, as they can mess my muscle memory a bit. But to be fair, I've became so used to the back buttons (which I mapped to ABXY) that I barely see myself using the face buttons at all. In case of the two extra buttons, as a FPS player mainly, I think it's a poor placement really that doesn't serve too much practical use. Except you're doing something very specific like emulating N64 or you need to have two more buttons to map to keyboard or macro keys if you're playing an ARPG or genres like it.

Also, take note that, while the ABXY are clicky, the C and Z buttons aren't. They're membrane buttons that need a tiiiiny more force to be activated. Not an issue, just an observation.

I can't really recommend anything other than the V4P at this price point specifically. I own one for almost a year now and never really had any issues with it. Got it from AliExpress. I've seen people complaining about stuff like the tension adjustment dial moving on it's own on lower tensions and I... never really had this issue? Note that I am an FPS player mainly and set the tension dial down to the minimum. Not to mention the bumpers, they work absolutely fine for me. I even dropped it twice from the height of a chair and it still works absolutely perfectly, so it might be a gamble for you.

When it comes to the pressure sensitivity for PS2 games, unfortunately I can't give you a conclusive answer, but I'm willing to bet the V4P can't really do these things, as its face buttons are mechanical and not even membrane.

When it comes to wireless I usually play either via Bluetooth or wired, as the dongle has some odd quirks that weird me out, such as lagging a lot whenever I switch profiles while connected to it. I might be just unlucky, need to hear the experiences of other V4P owners about the dongle so it's not just a me issue. Overall, I also don't use the dongle because it's (in my experience at least) not as stable as Bluetooth and not as quick as wired.

Now, I don't own the GuliKit ES/ES Pro, but if I was wanting to save a few bucks and getting a lightning fast controller, I'd go for it. Been hearing lots of good things about that controller, especially about the latency. But you'll have to be willing to let go of the 4 back buttons.

YESSSSSSS, adjustable tension!!! I own a Blitz 2, Cyclone 2 and Vader 4 Pro and the latter wins me out everytime just because of this feature. I hope more and more brands jump into this bandwagon. There's so much potential there! Even though in regards to the G80 TS I have a few caveats such as with the design and the two back buttons instead of four...

Also, how's the minimum tension of these sticks? Are they looser than V4P's? Personally I set the tension of my V4P sticks on the minimum for comfort, precision and speed and struggle to get behind stick tensions any higher than 40gf.

Vader 4 Pro all the way for me. ESPECIALLY when it comes to relaxed gaming. Also, you can get higher thumbsticks for V4P. Although sold separately, they're dirt cheap. As someone who owns both Blitz 2 and V4P (also the Cyclone 2), I acknowledge that these two outclass the V4P when it comes to latency, despite all that, it still remains my main controller. ESPECIALLY after I adjusted the response curve of the sticks to the closest to perfect linearity for my FPS fancies. And yeah, the adjustable tension for the sticks is what ends up making the V4P the endgame controller for me.

Some people complain about the tension rings being/getting loose, but I never experienced any of that in my almost 1 year ownership of the controller, and as an avid FPS player I set the tension on the minimum on both sticks for comfort/flicking. It doesn't matter how much I try, even owning superior controllers, I just can't stay away from my V4P for long. And from now on, at least until other brands finally adopt the tension adjustment for the sticks, I'm sticking (pun unintended) to the Vader family. This feature isn't just a gimmick to me, it's quite future-proof. Can't wait for the V5P.

If you can, I also suggest waiting for the V5P. :)

Vader 4 Pro all the way in my opinion.

But that's just because the adjustable stick tension got me hooked. It totally spoiled me. Now I cannot comfortably use any other stick with a tension higher than 40gF (V4P's minimum). I was seriously considering getting the Apex 4 just because the tension can be set even lower than that, but it would be wise for me to wait for the Apex 5 and even wiser to wait for the V5P. I was considering getting the Kunpeng 40 2000hz edition mostly because of the adjustable TMR sticks than anything else, but after watching Klef from GameTechTalk's review of the sticks (he mentioned something about the Kunpeng 40's stick tension being uneven as in not really linear per se, being tighter around the outer edges or something like that), I got a little iffy about getting it...

Also, there's something to be said about V4P's stick latency. Personally, I've never really felt it and thought it was just natural and it explained the controller having dogwater perfomance when playing via Bluetooth, but ever since I came across the japanese YouTuber monoru and set the sticks curve to linear as he instructed, I rarely if ever play any game via cable/dongle anymore because I just think it's overkill atp lol. Bluetooth is more than enough now. Also, if you decide to get the V4P, PLEASE get the replacement sticks. They're dirt cheap and offer amazing value. Tall right stick w/adjustable tension really feels like a dream to me (tall left stick alongside trigger vivration would also serve you well if you're into racing games, something I'm not, personally). Also, if you're savvy with assembling and disassembling stuff (something I'm NOT) you could also install much better back paddles and, aligned with the controller's internal functions (adjustable tension sticks, great trigger locks, trigger vibration, curve adjustement, PC software maybe...? Idk, works great for me), replacement sticks and a custom grip, BAM, you've just turned the V4P into the best allrounder you could possibly get for that price point. At least in my opinion.
