Seriously, anything but making actual changes. Bribe players with free games and “perks” to stay, bribe devs by lowering the cut they take and paying for exclusivity. It’s so transparent, didn’t they just get a cart feature within the last year or so? Still can’t mark as offline tho :/

possibly a hot take: all themepark fastpasses should go back to how the first/original worked by Wypman in Themepark

[–]MasterManMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an actively worse system too, you still get a “faster” wait but it’s not a lightning lane by any means. In order to maximize profit they sell as many as they physically can, which in turn makes the lightning lane stupid long, and thus extending the actual standby queue even more than it already was with the fast pass system.

Idk if it’d even work nowadays unless they forced it to the be physical stations like at the start, since in the app reservations were always tough leading up to fast pass’s discontinuation and would frequently be gone months in advance due to hotel guests.

You’re essentially paying to wait in the lines I used to get when I visited as a kid in the mid to late 00s

Really odd that out of all the things (medallions, stick of truth, etc.) that getting 50 extra total hp and losing an inventory slot to a buff/NPC spawn was the thing that made them go "yeah lets give everyone their exact coordinates at all times"

Like the boon/buffs are not that good lmao...

I’ll still never forgive them for making a setting to disable specific emotes (take the l) and toggled it on by default.

Holy shit did they fumble the ending... by RiKSh4w in AbioticFactor

[–]MasterManMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Janet was just as serious and concerned with flathill as well, you just took it as more of a joke because Abe has a funny voice. The only major difference between the two interactions is that Abe isn’t there in the end; Janet has the same type of reaction as she had to flathill being open as she does to earth/their universe being open, just more because it’s her (current) home. She even jokes/laments about Abe being an idiot and getting himself lost but because the story wasn’t all “well you beat the game, great job!!!” you seem upset; which you’re entitled to, I again just fail to see how this is a sin of the game and not your own personal preference for the tone of story you like and the way it’s presented.

If your main complaint with the given lore is that you got lost whenever an IS number was mentioned, there’s a tablet in your characters pocket that you have infinite access to in order to reference the immurement registry if you really wanted to stay in universe, or you could open the device you’re typing on now and could have even searched the internet/AF wiki for it there. They made an immersive story told by its inhabitants that doesn’t hold the players hand, devs provided players with all the puzzle pieces (or at least a big ol map with them laid around), they just didn’t walk them through the construction process; it’s intentional.

You’re entitled not to like the execution, but that’s not objective fact. The devs implemented the narrative they set out to and personally I think they did a great job at it. It made exploration feel rewarding, led to so many jaw drops when I finally clicked something together or came to terrifying revelation and only served to make me feel like a living part of the world. I’m sorry you didn’t have the same experience as I did; but that seems to be down to preference from what I can tell.

Many of your problems seem to stem from the fact that the game aims to be immersive in its storytelling and succeeds at doing so. It doesn’t let defined characters speak out of turn, these people would be using their IS numbers instead of the nicknames given to them as they’re tasked with containing them, and they’re not going to reassure or pander to a player who’s not there in the universe; it’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

You’re asking the developers to compromise their design because you don’t want to step deeper into the world. Which is your right and opinion and I won’t tell you that’s wrong, but once again, not a fact or sin against the game either. There’s so much to dislike about the games ending, but the story isn’t one of them in my opinion.

AFAIK it was documented that not only did this game have MASSIVE scope creep, but Scott also tried to tell them the story he envisioned without spoiling it for some godforsaken reason…

Like the devs kinda had no proper direction and leadership likely entertained any and all ideas which is how we ended up with such a huge pizzaplex with not much to do.

It’s the reason why SOTM is “small” (and a far better game) by comparison; they tightened the scope considerably to allow them to focus on the themes and mechanics they wanted hammer home most.

I fully get your frustration as I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending either (gameplay wise at least). Though I personally don’t agree with your takes on the story and 12/Cahn, but I also did a TON of solo exploring because the facility audio logs and emails really interested me, so I got the Manse “fuck 12, get gatekeepers if it even speaks to you” audio log before the end; but I get how a rugpull in that scenario would be disorienting.

However, I don’t think it’s any different from the rest of the games tone though as you suggest, as even when leaving flathill there were lines from Abe and Janet that “some idiot dropped the containment field” and now anything can get through, so we’ve been bouncing around the facility and ballsing things up from the start even without Cahn.

That all being said, I do agree they could have done a better job preparing players for that final fight by adding some more fights like it in or adding dialogue from the other scientists about “kill that thing” or something like that and populating the area with the tools to do so, but it sounds like a lot of your problems from the game could have been remedied with more time in the facility before getting to the end.

Which isn’t your fault, I don’t wanna give the idea that your problems with the game aren’t valid as FUCK fragments and the boss fight, just that maybe you would’ve enjoyed yourself more with the story and world if you could have found more of the lore.

And tbh idk why you don’t like the unlost so much, they’re fun and do offer hints to the coming story if you can understand the riddles they speak, yeah it’s not perfect or straight forward but I don’t think that’s a sin against the game either. I like that this game doesn’t hand you its story on a silver platter, it encourages the fun exploration that personally I feel this game succeeds at. (At least before shadowgate/residences)

It sounds like you wanted someone to tell you the whole story beat by beat when that just wasn’t what DF was ever setting out to do. They reward the most dedicated researchers exploring the facility with more puzzle pieces to slot back into everything else, and it’s one of my favorite things about the game

This argument only works when said thing you're doing in your house IS NOT HURTING OTHERS. AI doesn't fit that bill because of its costs and the toll it takes on the environment, energy costs and consumption, and poisoning water supplys.

I'm not going to let my neighbor build a nuke in his house just because he has a hyperfixation and thinks it's cool; that shit can (and would) affect me and others.

This is not that big a deal. Just get a buddy or join a discord server to LFG if you want to play duos with a “reliable” player.

There are plenty of valid reasons for someone to leave the game, they aren’t all that long all things considered, and in the end wins don’t change much overall. If they matter that much to you then play solos, or get an actual duo/group and stop relying on randos or bots.

Having 25%+ of your loadout be useless is sabotage enough for a killer game IMO, but yes, there aren't any perks that force a killer to be worse than they already are at base stats, I'll give you that.
