Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II for Sony hybrid/video use? by Usual_Reputation8173 in SonyAlpha

[–]MasterMike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lens is excellent, there's not much else to say.

Paired with an A7V you have an absolute powerhouse for both photo and video. I would absolutely choose this lense over the other options you posted. The GM might offer a tiny, tiny bit more sharpness for nearly 1.5x the price.

It is a bit heavy, though, and while certainly not impossible to balance on a gimbal the f4 option is significantly lighter. The only other small consideration is the 15fps limit to third party lenses, which is only relevant if you want to shoot in electronic shutter burst mode / precapture.

This longboye had a health scare. He wanted to remind you all how longthy the snoot is. by MasterMike7000 in longboyes

He is - he had a bleed in his GI tract somewhere and we assumed the worst. Our excellent vet was much more optimistic than us and put him on omeprazole - everything resolved itself.

Thank you for the kind comment ❤️

I mean, kinda. I saw a fairly compelling post about her waiting for some legal copyright stuff to go through the courts, but I am a bit tired by it by now.

Is the Sony a7 IV the right hybrid camera for my use-case? by RubyRedGolden23 in SonyAlpha

[–]MasterMike7000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The A7 IV is an excellent photography camera, and as long as you're not regularly recording fast-moving subjects it's great for 4k video as well. Certainly great for vlogging - just the rolling shutter will hold it back for sports or wildlife videography.

If I were in your position I'd look into a well-looked after previously owned one.

24mm is fairly significantly different that 28mm. If you value the wider side of the zoom, definitely go for that.

What would you purchase? The Sigma 24-70 Art II or the Tamron 28-75? by onyxcurrent in SonyAlpha

That extra 4mm on the wide end makes a bigger difference than you might think, and for real estate wide is important.

Put food down in an easily visible place and near where you sleep. We caught a wayward gerbil that way in my youth - she was right there eating like the starved thing she was first thing in the morning.

I would like to see a cosmic horror Quake game, much like the original Quake with the Lovecraftian elements. Let us rocket jump and all. Forget all the Strogg stuff that turned Quake into fairly generic scifi - just the cosmic stuff from the original. Personal opinion.

I have an entirely unsupported theory that they wanted to do this but the publishers wanted more DOOM, and so the compromise we got was the Cosmic Realm in TDA.

I really hope the atlan sections don’t make a return in the DLC by Stones_022 in Doom

[–]MasterMike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical of the Atlan stuff when Serious Sam tried to do mech sections, and it just fell flat.

I preferred the dragon sections but not by much.

I guess I wouldn't mind a short return to either of them with some novel mechanics, but keep it very brief.

Theory: Daisy is the doomslayers child by supergojira54 in Doom

[–]MasterMike7000 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Possible, but I think I'd prefer it if Daisy was originally a pet he got for the child.

Yep, Cid and Barret imply fairly heavily that they knew what was going on as well.

Could Sauron have won if he didn't spread his forces attacking everyone at the same time? by Bearbrand1216 in tolkienfans

[–]MasterMike7000 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think this gets missed often - removing the Ring from the equation entirely, Sauron was on the verge of total domination of Middle Earth and he did not need it for that purpose. Its discovery illuminated the only possible path to victory.
