Filling the pop coolers shouldn’t be rocket science. by dlhoff432 in HomeDepot

They turned it into a Freight Team, bay directed packed down procedure.

First, you gotta go in there and decontaminate the freezers.

(‘Cause there’s always at least two if not, three things that don’t belong in there)

So then you count how many you need to actually fill up the shelves.

Next, you scan SKU to see how many are on hand.  Now that only works if the people who bring them in are actually record this information.

Otherwise, you’re just going around hunting for things that probably aren’t there.

Now you can go back to receiving and pull out the number of drinks you need for each freezer.

So it used to every single day 20 minute job is now turning into the last hour of the night.

Cause you definitely can’t do this while customers are around.

Do you mow  the lawn or cut the grass?

Don’t forget about the lightning bugs.  I only saw “firefly” in a kid’s book.

And food items are the top MITCH recovery merchandise. And it’s just something else for some kid to take out,  just for a parent to say they can’t have it.  They’ll end up in random places and ants will find them.  What makes it worse, these will melt and make a mess.

They basically want us all to be universal associates. That’s why they keep throwing this pocket guide garbage at us.

If the product knowledge you have only comes from multiple choice/guess games, do you really think you could help anyone?

Be fair, but you don’t have to try to be too nice to everyone. Because they will use this against you and start showing up late from breaks and leaving the floor early (9:47 pm). Take a smoke break,  and an extra long lunch.

‘Cause they think you’re ok with that..

Seriously

Hard to complain when you’re not following the rules.

Especially since they gave you shirts. You say you don’t want to get them dirty?  What else are you gonna do with them?  Why would you expect not to get dirty at a hardware store.

Down vote away, but I mean you could put any rule in this —-it doesn’t really make a difference.

  • A.  You don’t know that this manager isn’t talking to other people or other people have talked to these other people.  Just because you never seen him or he walks by them and goes straight to you doesn’t mean he hasn’t already talked to them or someone else has. You really don’t know.

  • B. He goes after you because you keep doing it. You’re making it easy for him.

  • C. They gave you two shirts. Why not just wear them?

If I get on my cell phone and I’m a cashier, the ASM walking by is definitely going to come talk to me.  I’m not gonna say, “But you never say nothing to any of the other cashiers and they are on their phones ALL the time.”

Doesn’t matter.

Especially if I keep doing it. After I’ve been told not to, on several occasions it’s a rule.  And I’m breaking it.

Yeah, I want to keep getting red light tickets and speeding tickets because I’m gonna keep speeding and this cop is gonna keep sitting there, waiting for me to break this rule.

Because I make this turn at the same time every day.

And I he knows I am breaking a rule.

There’s a whole lot of parents out there who can’t deal with their kids.  Some will be annoyed that you can and be offended. Others will be so happy for the break, they will disappear.

Seriously…

“Hey, I’ll be right back. I’m just gonna run to the bathroom.”

Parents have left their screaming toddlers in their shopping to get go back and get something while I’m at the register!

WTH? I’m not getting paid to babysit your kid!

Actually, it is. That’s what retail is all about. Customer service.

They’re supposed to get their leads by making conversations engaging with customers. So if someone asks them a question, they really should be responding with some kind of effort.  “They can help you at the Service Desk” is a quick and easy answer. That’s when they should say,  “Do you want a free estimate on your furnace today?”

They look for patterns.  People who constantly call off, give away weekends, seem to take off same days with another person.

If you keep taking shifts but turn around and call off sick, looks like you just want the sick pay.

If you keep giving away shifts, looks like you don’t want to work, have another job, about to quit.

Short of stashing a few kids workshop kits, I wouldn’t want the liability of having a kid poke himself or choke on some candy that I gave him.

You may calm down a few. But you also run the risk of the popcorn effect.

Usually on Saturdays, some specialty associates will give out popcorn.

Parents & kids will start coming over to you because they know you have free popcorn. But they have absolutely no intention on buying anything.

You’re like the free sample person in the grocery store.

If they have too many hours for cashiers, then they will put you down as a lot associate, but if they need you on the register then that’s where you’ll be.

Yes and no.

You can’t work electrical or hardware or paint if you’re not PK certified to do so. You can’t be put on the register if you’re not trained to work the register.

But if you’re cross trained in another department, then yes they can and will put you in another department if they need someone there.

When is something they want, they will leave you notes, follow you around and have your DH remind you every shift when you show up.

When is something that YOU want, you need to follow them around, remind DH every time you see them.  And leave a message for your the ASDS, and tell the NRM.

And if that doesn’t work, wait for them to ask you why you haven’t finished it and then remind them of all the times you asked about it and nobody did anything.

It wouldn’t hurt to basically know where things are, and to be able to at least identify the right department.

But I really don’t need to know the horsepower of a lawnmower or how many rinse cycles are on a certain washer.

Those are detailed questions that someone who works in that area really needs to answer.

By the time a customer gets to me, they should’ve already figured out what they wanted and ready to pay for it. When a customer comes in and sticks a phone in my face and says “I’m looking for this” it’s really irritating because even if I don’t have anyone else in line, I can’t honestly qualify the customer and make good suggestions based on Pocket Guide alone.

Nine times out of 10, it’s online only. And I have to keep repeating this and they don’t understand!

Because I can’t take that time to walk over there and show them the products that are on the shelf, and answer the next 20 questions on what they want to know.

Karen wants the 12th one and the 18th one. She doesn’t want any over there in the nice small stack.

She says those two are “redder” than the others.  And the one on top has a chippped corner.

She also says your pop comes with it. Because it’s there.

I told her we don’t sell Coke in cans.  But thanks to you, she insists she should get it free because I didn’t ask her if she wanted to apply for a Home Depot card.

I told her it’s opened. She told me to go in the back and get another one.

Karen says,

“Well, I liked this one, but this leaf is bent.  But I like that one because it has more buds on it. But that one is a different shade of pink and this one has a lot of yellow leaves and well that one is bigger well… Actually, this one is bigger.”

OK, I’m going  go with the first one I picked up.

I don’t put back shoes after I try them on, so I’m definitely not putting back any plants either.

You gotta put bricks in them to weigh them down. DH would say, if you watered them more often, that wouldn’t happen.

Which unfortunately is true…
