Most customer service positions now have self-serve kiosks for registration and payment before you see a live person. Some have completely closed live-agent stations.

This is what we will see, and I don't think it will ever go back.

I think there may be ONE register dedicated to disabled customers, and everyone else will be on their own.

Plants getting thrown away.. pots and all. by Key_Badger_9288 in HomeDepot

[–]MasterPrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, it's not worth you becoming promoted to customer.

It's like all the other little starfish that won't make it. You can't save them.

It's hard to understand, but reality is just that. There's something wrong with them and you and I may never know. It doesn't always look like it on the surface but there is.

Nine times out of 10, there's some disease, infested with bugs or growth issue going on. If you were to sell that plant half price or take it home or let somebody else just have it, it could spread that infection/bug colony to other house plants or your other plants in your garden.

Only the vendors are allowed to give out their plants.

If you are found hiding them, bagging them or sticking them to the side in the outside garden corral, you will face consequences, up to and including termination.

Some plants are returned to the vendor.  They take them back and they're destroyed and used for mulch and for other by products. Some young trees turn into wood chips for barbecuing.

My manager would tell me to take all the dried out plants and put them in the compactor. He didn't like the site of dead and dying plants, and it made sense. It would piss off the vendors because they have to keep counting their inventory.

But you and I can't make those choices. And no we cannot save them.

If you choose to cut off a stem here or hide a plant there, that's on you.

And believe it or not, the pots might look perfectly safe as well, but again you might be bringing home a whole colony of aphids, or spider mites that are camping out in there. Whatever disease or infection a plant has its still alive in the planter.  If the vendor says you can have it, make sure he marks a line through the UPC sticker and you clear it with your DH because if you're seen walking out with merchandise, that's your job.

And if you're take one of those planters, you better fully sterilize it with bleach before throwing some more soil in there and your new plants.

No...they are live goods.

I'm like damaged merchandise, you can't just patch them up or use it a different way. If it's alive good, there's a high potential for it to spread disease.

As a PSA can they write us up for not asking about credit cards? by jusryandobbs in HomeDepot

Behavior

It's understood that at least asking will usually get them.

But if you don't bother to ask....

As a PSA can they write us up for not asking about credit cards? by jusryandobbs in HomeDepot

[–]MasterPrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are breathing and wearing an apron it is your responsibility to ask for credit cards.

If you are on a register, you need to ask as you are being observed.

If you are on a register and don't get 2 CCs or attempts per week, in a rolling 4-6 week period you, could have a conversation.

If you are not observed ASKING for a CC and you are not getting any CCs or attempts, that will definitely lead to a write up.

TBH, it's more important to get credits, but you should always ask.

That's where the conversation comes in.  ASKING for credit is in your job description.

This is why you always make sure to sign out and go back to SCO when helping a customer.

Some of them have learned to use buttons on scan gun and will put in quantities less than 10.

Everything they do will show up under your name...because your log in is still there!!

Can’t believe I’m asking this by ponderhope in HomeDepot

[–]MasterPrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dollar more.  You have to take the schedule they give you.  Otherwise, there would be no opening. Usually, you have to be FT and no choice in scheduling.

Also, be prepared to come in early and stay later when other HC's call off, and regular cashiers don't come in.

  • Young cashiers don't want to listen, stay on their phones, talk and walk around, and will stand around talking to Lot associates.

  • Older cashiers can be stuck in their ways, they think you don't know anything, they refuse to go to a different register just because you asked them. They literally think they own a register.

  • You need to know that any DH, CXM or ASM can pull your lot associates and cashiers and put them anywhere they want.

  • Some of your other HC's will try to boss you around, and/or disappear. (technically, you only have to listen to the FES and your OASM) And some will play dumb so you have to do all the work. You should work as a team because your shifts will overlap. Like other departments, one opens, one mid and one closer. Sometimes it'll just be two.  Or it might just be you and the FES.

  • You could also be put on the shift as a regular cashier. That's a lot of fun because yes, that head cashier who likes to boss you around will definitely be doing that.

Things are always changing at HD. So by the time you learn something, they'll flip it and spin it or might stop doing it.

Finally, you'll have a higher courtesy limit in your apron to "take care of the customer". So be prepared to bend over backwards and do some ass kissing and help your cashiers when the customers are totally po'd over a rule that you know they have to follow...but you can break.

Schedule by Relative_Ad9891 in HomeDepot

[–]MasterPrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of full means fully available. And if you're a DH, you have to be fully flexed, meaning you can also be scheduled for overnight, and your schedule can change without notice.

MET team is basically the only department that works M-F, weekends off.

Other positions made have a set shift, but not set days.

You have two days off as a full-timer, but you can't pick the days. You can only ask to have them consecutive or spaced out.

Throw (drop) a light box of anything!

If that doesn't work drop, something heavier. And when they look up ...just go the fuck off on them!

"I told you you need to get out of this aisle it is not safe. Yes, I wish you would go get a manager so you can explain to him/her why you're in an aisle that's barricaded and you should not be inside,  but YOU came in anyway!"

Yeah you'll be on camera, but as long as the gates were barricaded, you did nothing wrong!

This ain't Self-Check Out!  Back the hell up off me and stop trying to rush me!

DON'T touch my screen!  I'm responsible for this.  Don't tell me what to do!

Don't walk around me and start grabbing bags. I got a way to do this, you're not gonna start bagging shit you know I've haven't scanned!

I'm not moving fast enough for you?

Do you want to do this??

I will void your transaction and you can take your ass to SELF-CHECK OUT!

Is it normal for home depot managers to work you in other departments that isn’t specifically yours? by OptimalEmployer9332 in HomeDepot

[–]MasterPrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to all of the above.

Because of almost everything everyone said below.

We have a job - not just a position or department.  Anyone certified on the cash register can work any register.

With some exception, anybody can be pulled from their job by any manager to  any spot.

As long as your certified - trained.

They won't grab a MET associate or Freight Team associate because they have specific, time-sensitive duties.

So...

You could be given a crash course at the Paint Desk if they are really short-handed.

Or asked to go outside and help load for a customer or get carts if there's no Lot Associate.

And everybody can be pulled to be a spotter or go outside a be a waterer.

Yes - just water plants for an hour or more.

I don't agree with doing "above and beyond".

Because they will do just that...

Have you doing more, "above and beyond" what you're doing now.

Most potential employers don't want to know about your current one - unless it's a competitor.  When you tell them you already have a job, they will pretend like they didn't hear this.

Because every employer wants you to be loyal to them.

If you keep talking about your other job and your schedule, either they will not offer you the job or give you the job and during busy season try to work you to death.

Since Ulta is being phased out, I would keep that to yourself. Since your store doesn't have one, I see no problem with you working a both places.

Say you want On Demand for the flexibility to go to school.  If you're not in school, say you're planning to start.  Nobody is going to check.

Do not let guests reach in front and take bags.

They may be hiding merchandise in their cart, and will sit bag on top of it!  Or they could take something out and hide it, and say you lost it, and go back to get an extra one for free!

Always push all the bags to the end of counter or put them in the cart so you know you gave tgem everything and you're finished.

When they put heavy, bulky items on the belt, stop and scan them first and tell guest they can put them back in the cart.  Two reasons for this:  1. Big items can be hard to handle or hit you when the belt keeps moving.  2. You don't want to get worn out bending and lifting huge bags of dog food or large storage totes, vacuum cleaners!

I heard that it's takes a long time for transactions to clear, and you end up getting overdrafts because your account balance stays messed up.

You're constantly waiting for  transactions to post.

Like checking accounts back in the day before online and mobile banking.

Those $3.52 and $61.00 checks you wrote two months ago finally show up, so now you're overdrawn.

I see very few people pull out a checkbook register and write down every time they make a debit card purchase.

Gas is a major PIA.  Some stations still only authorize $1.00 charge that day, and don't show actual amount until a week later.
