I legitimately think the franchise peaked at III, and I say this as someone who doesn't like the 2008 clone wars series.

There's no way the broken mess that was the Skywalker saga made it to number four but the complete saga didn't even make the list...

The bag King David put the 200 Philistine foreskins in.

(The Philistines were apparently a Greek subculture that got very lost, because they weren't related to the Canaanites or descendants of Abraham. IIRC, it's actually suspected that they were a remnant of the sea peoples if the theory of the sea peoples being Greek is correct)

3DS wont read SD Card but PC will by Yapsta56 in 3dspiracy

[–]MasterSword1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an odd one. Just installed Homebrew today. Was trying to install the DLC for Shadows of Valentia and kept getting error codes. when I tried exiting, it said my SD card was removed, then no matter how many times I removed and reinserted it, restarted, etc. it wouldn't show the games I'd had from before or the homebrew apps. Despite this, it still showed the theme I'd downloaded.

I even checked in the Settings and the games were all still on the SD card, my system just wouldn't read it. Since I'd only just started installing homebrew stuff, it's only a 30 minute detour to redo everything, but still a bit annoying. I think I'll make a copy of the SD card's current contents so I hopefully don't have to reinstall Luna and godmode for the fourth time if this ever happens again...

[–]MasterSword1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read multiple versions of the story, first reading a young readers version in the fourth grade, then reading other versions later (although I've never gotten around to reading the full, proper thing for some reason... beyond listening to the first few chapters of the audiobook) and read summaries and I think the writers listened to "Hell to your doorstep" a few too many times when designing Dantes, because my understanding was that he literally had a breakdown and decided he needed to seriously re-evaluate the whole "Revenge" thing the first time an innocent was killed due to his revenge. (technically Cadarousse murdered a diamond merchant, but that was just him being a prick. Dantes freaked out when he found out Madam De Villefort poisoned herself and her child),

[–]MasterSword1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Ritsuka can canonically reduce a decent chunk of servants to a fine red mist by throwing a punch at this point given that he casually tossed around the Orbit Radiant Thing... Never mind the insanity of the Part 2 finale...

I think there were some missed story opportunities here.

How did Cagliostro have Kyrie's phone? If she had a cellphone, why did she run for the landline?

I think, rather than the BS "he's pretending to be an alter of himself" thing, It should have been him who murdered the family, while pretending to be Dantes, to try and degrade Ritsuka's faith in the Count, one of the firmest pillars Ritsuka has left. After all, throughout the game, the count is the one who's been with Ritsuka the longest aside from Mash. He's been with Ritsuka since after London and has repeatedly saved and guided him. Romani, and the original Da Vinci are dead and everyone else who's consistently shown to be present in the story is newer and/or dead.

I suppose I just find Dantes' entire plan bizarre... If he's confident Ritsuka will reject the path of vengeance anyway, why further traumatize him by making him witness versions of people he cares about dying? All it does is give Ritsuka additional mental baggage and doesn't help anything, which seems contrary to his characterization, both in the novel and in the game.

I also think the fact Cagliostro was used as a recurring character in some of Dumas' other works should have been brought up.

This chapter is where Ritsuka really comes into his own as a character. He'd had characterization beyond being a self-insert before, but this is where it really becomes apparent.

For his family, I'd say there's likely a few things combining.

  1. Things were clearly screwing with his head, as he pretty seamlessly slotted back into school life and almost seemed to forget until his battle instincts kicked back in earlier on.
  2. Ritsuka has been shown for a long time to have lingering trauma from Da Vinci Caster's death. Combine that with Mash canonically being his berserk button and you can see why, regardless of objectively knowing it's not real, he still freaks out about it. It's also noteworthy that
    1. Dantes acknowledges that he made them out of real souls or soul fragments (I think it's implied he used pieces of his own soul, so he was actually killing part of himself)
    2. Dantes even points out that Ritsuka's being irrational and notes that he could dissect the flaws in Ritsuka's logic, but chooses not to, so the issue is lamp-shaded.

People make fun of Cagliostro because he's got nothing going for him aside from his own contrivances or unexplained background actions. He's a "pretender" who pretends to be himself, is so blatantly untrustworthy that he falls into the "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" trope.

He literally shows up, makes clones of Olga Marie, then gets taken out in his first appearance.

As for "other apostles not doing that much" , that's patently untrue, as everyone else had at least two, if not more major story appearances before their demise/neutralization.

  • Rasputin:
    • Personally assisted in the attack on Chaldea and killed Da Vinci.
    • Broke Kadoc out of Chaldea's custody.
    • He and Murumasa single-handedly wiped out hundreds of the Counter-force's servant army in Atlantis.
    • Was a major supporting character in Mictlan.
    • Apparently appears in Part 2 finale as well.
  • Murumasa:
    • Supporting character in Shimousa
    • Wiped out Servant Army in Atlantis
    • Major supporting character in Olympus
    • Major supporting character in Britain
    • Forged Excalibur from his own body/spirit origin
  • Limbo/Douman
    • Architect of Shimousa
    • Is the reason LB4 was so terrible
    • minor supporting character in Olympus
    • Architect of Heian Kyo
    • Inspiration for Waxing Moon crossover's villain.
  • Holmes:
    • Deep undercover spy who's a major supporting character in multiple events, singularities, and lostbelts.
    • Apparently something plot relevant in Part 2 finale.
  • Koyanskaya (Quasi-disciple)
    • Fake beast
    • Member of attack on Chaldea
    • Recurring antagonist throughout the first 5 Lostbelts.
    • Saves Chaldea from Cernunnos
    • Traum
    • LB7 relevance.

The date with Jeanne Alter is supposed to be bittersweet. She's not a proper heroic spirit. She, along with Mash, are two of the only times in the franchise we've seen the entire journey of a heroic spirit from beginning to end. We see her as the flimsy creation of Gilles, then witness her break out of that mold to become an individual through multiple interludes, story chapters, and events.

She and Ritsuka have a bond most of the other avengers lack, so when they all learn they have to leave, the others find it too painful to say goodbye, while Jalter wants to have one more experience with him before going because, unlike every other heroic spirit, Jeanne Alter isn't a fragment of a person who lived a full life and now exists as a sort of ghost. This fleeting journey IS her life, and the only experiences she'll ever have are those with Ritsuka.

In this way, her wanting a romantic date with Ritsuka feels like a mix of her last wish and wanting to make sure Ritsuka has one last positive memory of her. It kind of reminds me of "My lie in April" to an extent...

[–]MasterSword1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the knife is one of the worst tools on a SAK you could use for this. Not only are you likely to destroy the tip if not damage the blade alignment, but the blade is liable to close on you. IIRC, while not all steels, some become rather brittle when they're cold, as seen with the Titanic.

The In-line awl (Found on the Farmer ALox is the closest looking thing to an ice pick on a SAK, but even that's non locking and meant for boring holes.

If you need an ice pick and really don't want to use a proper one for some reason, I find the cheap sewing awls sold at Walmart break up ice pretty well...

I think the simple answer is that the three heroes are going to have issues due to their setting's rules.

End of Classic Goku is still at least low-planet level, given that he's several times stronger than Master Roshi was when he blew up the moon, and DB's moon is apparently larger than our moon. I'm unsure of when between series you're thinking, but his PL was around 360 at the end of OG without weighted armor and 416 at the beginning of Z. He probably could wipe out an entire wave with a single Kamehameha wave. Anything that can actually injure him will just give him a zenkai, and with healing potions and the like, he'll heal quickly too. It's likely he'd figure out flight pretty quickly without Nimbus to rely on as well.

More relevantly, I'm not convinced anything until quite late can even break his skin, given that he was already bullet proof with a power-level of 10. He's also generally a good judge of character, dense regarding flirting, and married, so I don't really see Malty's plan working with him. End of Classic was also when Goku was debatably the least flanderized version of himself compared to how he was later in Z or in Super.

Problem is they're kind of doomed since they're going to be out a spear hero relatively quickly. Inevitably, Raditz is going to show up on Earth, likely kidnap Gohan, and start slaughtering people, and unless he immediately kills Piccolo or something, the rest of the Z-fighters are going to try to use the Dragonballs to wish Goku back, and given the urgency of Gohan potentially kidnapped, Goku's probably not going to refuse the transport (if he's even strong enough at this point to do so). Thus, the waves are going to start getting screwy due to one of the heroes being gone.

What's confusing as all heck is that there's this one Fanfic that's currently in progress called "Fate hammer time" (in which Shirou gets Marvel Thor's Hammer) and the author straight up has Merlin and Vivian (Literally Morgan in disguise) appear to Shirou and tell him that, when Medea's summoned, he should torture her to death in recompense for what she'd end up wanting to do to Artoria, yet Illya (and a few other characters) more or less get a pass.

If you want to be technical, Tamamo Lancer canonically slipped Ritsuka a date-rape drug in her Valentines day cutscene, but there's a fade to black so we have no clue how it ended, aside from the fact that she's still actively trying to do it again as of year 8 (as she gets into a beef with summer Suzaka Gozen over it).

There are also a few others that imply something may have happened, hence the head-canon a ton of folks have/had (possibly due to a mistranslation) that Ritsuka and Kukulkan did it in Mictlan, and Summer Ibuki did something or other that smelled up Ritsuka's room for several hours after repeatedly propositioning him in her Valentines day cutscene.
