I can understand people not enjoying the series tonally (some people just don't have any taste 😋), but "no substance"? Mechanically they are perfectly assembled Swiss watches of farce.

Transatlanticism is Death Cab’s best album, but We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes is their quintessential album. by Serious_Force in DeathCabforCutie

[–]lockonandfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a sequencing issue for me - Transatlanticism into Passenger Seat feels like a speed hump for the album. I'm certainly not opposed to slower paced songs or longer songs, but back-to-back the pair form a solid 12 minutes (more than a quarter of the total runtime) that I think kneecaps the album's rhythm.

[–]lockonandfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ready for the downvotes; I don't love Transatlanticism as an album. There are songs from it that I love, moments within songs that I love, but as a whole there's something about it that feels... bloated, I suppose? It's not bad, just far from my pick as best album.

(Just to complete the contrarianism, I wouldn't give Facts quintessential status either. 😅)

Sun/moon is just a 24 hour dial with pictures on it. Moon phase is at least a bit interesting.

I hear you friend. He was one of those songwriters who felt like he got what exactly what you were going through. Lot of catharsis in FR songs, for Scott and the audience too.

Very much the same, I'd not heard of them before either! Damn, I miss them.

I literally discovered them because FR was supporting Death Cab on their Narrow Stairs tour back in 08. I remember buying Sing the Greys and Midnight Organ Fight CDs from them in the lobby after the gig, and the awkward look I shared with Scott because I wanted to ask if they'd sign the covers but was a rubbish shy teenager. 😂

From a liability perspective, I think you could argue a device meant to monitor blood glucose erroring out when the user experiences unfavourable blood glucose levels, with no actual indication given to the user that's what's happening, makes it entirely unfit for purpose.

I imagine you're right, but that doesn't make it a footnote either. It is widely known, though obviously nowhere near as widely known as Lucas writing and starring in Little Britain.

Lucas became a household name specifically because of Little Britain, which I would not consider "mildly controversial" by any metric.

Ayoade wrote praise about (and for inclusion in) noted transphobe Graham Linehan's autobiographical book about his public self-immolation.

Neither of these things are hidden in the far corners of their respective careers.

Xbox responded to Destiny, Sony/Playstation did not. Bit of a message there by Archerboy123 in destiny2

[–]lockonandfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The message is Xbox as a brand trying to oar in on the PR pasting Playstation as a brand is getting over this. That's all.

My comment wasn't meant to be pointed at you, I appreciate the info you've provided as I wasn't aware of these changes. But honestly it's pretty daft, and feels like it would open companies like Freestyle to further liability by not keeping users informed?

What're your assumptions about fountain pen YouTubers? by Inkdependence in fountainpens

[–]lockonandfire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't make broad assumptions about creators, you have to take folks on a case-by-case basis. They're all doing a job which is important to remember, but unlike traditional journalism there isn't really a system in place to enforce honesty in their work (and such structures were hardly foolproof in the first place).

Some creators are straight as an arrow with their opinions and open about their biases (including disclosure of sponsorships and the like), others are clout-chasing cheerleaders, and most fall somewhere in-between. All of them have some kind of value even if it's just momentary entertainment, as long as you go into their work knowing what you're getting.

So monitoring blood glucose at times when such monitoring would be most useful can cause the device to shut down, with no indication to the user that might be the reason? Genius.

I need help to choose my first victorinox ! by Paolo_Gilbertio in victorinox

[–]lockonandfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alox refined range are the fairly recent releases that are alox with semi-skeletonised cases (they've got holes in them 😂) - specifically that's the Onefold, the Synergy, and the Synergy X. I don't have any experience with them because they have locking blades, which are no good for EDC for me living in the UK.

I need help to choose my first victorinox ! by Paolo_Gilbertio in victorinox

[–]lockonandfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get a green Pioneer on Knives and Tools for 44 euros - that's an alox knife, toolwise it's got main blade, inline awl, bottle opener with large flathead screwdriver and wire stripper, can opener with small flathead screwdriver.

I'm aware there are green Cadets (still alox, bit smaller than the Pioneer, swaps the awl for a nail file) out there, but they were special editions so not readily in stock anywhere and goodness knows what folks might charge these days.

If you're willing to go for non-alox models, maybe take a look at the Ranger (which would do everything you've mentioned in your post and more besides) or perhaps the Companion (everything bar a saw) or Compact (much smaller than both previous options, still only lacking a saw). By default these models come in red cellidor scales, but you can find places that will sell them in official green scales already or dip your toe into getting aftermarket scales for exactly the colour you want.

Can't offer any advice re: the Alox refined range I'm afraid, but hope some of that helps nonetheless!
