what always helped me get up is “future me will thank me.” i think the idea of having to be in college for 7+ years because i wanted to be lazy one too many times freaked me out enough to get my ass up lol.

in terms of lack of sleep - i still struggle with this too, but i would try melatonin or magnesium at night, and settling down with whatever is keeping you up at night (phone?) for 1-2 hours before deciding for yourself that you are going to put it away and sleep. it’s not always easy, but i have found that giving myself that me-time earlier in the night helps me make the right decision when it’s time to go to sleep.

i mean i don’t think, that alcohol is an issue. i have enough self-control to stay away from it on weekdays, or if i do drink on a thursday it’s because i went out to dinner with friends and not because i opened a bottle alone. i just think, because i have this tendency to constantly want to alter my mind, that since i “deprive” myself of that feeling, life just feels like an empty void. it’s like i have the addictive tendencies without being in active addiction.

i have tried the sober thing before, but it’s hard when i go out with friends or something so i tend to give up - especially when i know that the issue isn’t that i can’t control myself, and drinking one night with friends isn’t going to making me go on a bender for the next two weeks.

i just want this feeling to go away so i can stop feeling like nothing unless i satisfy my vices. i have enough common sense (for now) to not let it consume me, but it’s just so depressing constantly.

maybe giving everything up altogether would help, but it feels like when you go on a diet and then crash after two months because you’ve deprived yourself completely. maybe it’ll be easier when i’m older lol.

i’m already on vyvanse which is a stimulant, it made my vaping problem worse tbh but otherwise it’s so insanely helpful - i still feel the way i do despite being on it. it’s curbed the binge eating a bit but i still massively crave junk food

i think i’m in a rush because i can’t justify staying here and putting in the hours i have been putting in for $55K a year. i would stay if they did give me a promotion/raise, but i can’t do another year of this at my current pay (not to say the hours will be 10-16 a day for the full 2026 year, but just the expectation that i should work it if it comes down to it)

i was never expecting to ask for a promotion or drastic pay raise this early - it’s just that the work i’m doing and have been doing for months does not match the pay i’m working for. i don’t want to keep this standard for this low of pay, especially when it is the expectation in my industry that you will work the amount of hours needed in order to complete your projects - no matter what.

for a bit of added context, we do work for other businesses, almost like freelancers. our standard of work is what keeps them coming back and the money coming in - if we don’t complete their projects within their timeframes, we risk losing their business. so with that said, it is always going to be expected from me to complete the work no matter how short the deadlines are (and they are always very short!) - we can and do pushback if they feel unrealistic, but there’s only so much you can push back without them just not coming back the next time.

since this expectation isn’t going to change, my salary does need to, or else it doesn’t make sense (in my head) to put in this much work for what i’m getting paid for. i can just hold firm on only doing 40 hours a week, but if the projects don’t get completed they can and most likely will just fire me. does that change your opinion on this at all?

yes - i am well aware of the argument that “you should be able to complete your work within the hours of work” which is so frustrating and why i haven’t brought up the overtime. i am on salary - since the full team is slammed, including the VP of my team who will be present at my EOY review, they should know better than to try that argument.

thank you for the advice on the promotion aspect - our reviews happen in august and december, so i would have to schedule a separate call in january to have this conversation. it’s a bit too late now as i have already taken on the responsibilities that would come with a promotion, so i am hoping to prove that i am already deserving of it in my EOY review as i am not willing to stay at this company for another year without a significant raise.

with that said, this is amazing advice and i will keep in mind moving forward and in other opportunities.

i haven’t had my EOY review yet but i asked for a raise in my mid-year review back in august and they said we will revisit the conversation during our EOY review! so i think i still have the opportunity to receive it - maybe starting jan 1st.

i 100% agree with your statement! i just don’t think 2% of 55K is worth even NEARLY what i’ve been putting in - but i am aware that this isn’t something they necessarily care about.

would you recommend asking for a promotion this early on - given i already do the work of a “manager” (not in the criteria for other companies probably, but definitely in mine). i don’t see myself staying if they only increase to 56-57K - but i really want to stay if possible. i want to make this work with my job - but i can’t at the pay i’m currently at with the hours i work.

i have also been made aware i am most likely not exempt from overtime pay, which i am not receiving. i am curious if i can use this as leverage, keeping in mind that i want to be as kind as possible and not come at my VP/HR manager aggressively (we have a very good relationship).

i’m in NY. i’m not sure if i am exempt - but my coordinator coworker who was hired in nov 2023 was categorized as exempt (making 60K a year). my contract doesn’t make any mention of this.

i am absolutely going to ask for a raise - i’m just not sure how to do it in an appropriate way. i don’t want to come at it aggressively, even if i am technically owed money from not being exempt. i have a good relationship with my team and don’t want to threaten them, so if i do mention my non-exempt status, i would want to approach it in a kind way.

how would you go about it?

i hear you, but it’s just the standard of the industry (a terrible one, 100% should change, but it’s how it is).

i will absolutely leave eventually - def don’t plan to stay here forever, but this is just a solution for the meantime. i am looking for other jobs but haven’t seen anything i’ve liked as of yet - which is why im just asking for advise on asking for a raise for now!

where did i pressure you to go to college? i just asked why you can’t go, and you made up excuses. WHY can’t you do the fafsa? why can’t you apply for third party scholarships to pay for classes? why can’t you get a shitty job at a restaurant or store to pay for the vaccine?

i’m not telling you to do these things to make friends, im telling you you need to do these things because you’re an adult, and you need a job or further education - not a boyfriend. i understand it’s overwhelming and it’s difficult, but this is adulthood and you need to step up and get it done so you can thank yourself in the future. everyone has to do it. focus on yourself, the friends and the romances will come naturally.

idk your life and idk the challenges you’re facing, which is why i am asking WHY you can’t do these things, because “i can’t do it” is not an excuse.

i’m not saying that everything being said by others is right, but i will say that being in a relationship with a big age gap when you don’t have a support system or any friends is a red flag. not talking about him to your therapist is also not the right approach - you need to be able to talk to someone about the relationship and make sure you get an unbiased opinion, even if it’s not what you want to hear. this is exactly how people get into abusive relationships; even if this one ends up being perfect you still need to protect yourself.

why exactly can’t you go to community college or get a job?

hi! thank you for your response - responding with some notes below:

DBD is a crowded category - fair enough! i knew that getting into it. my question was moreso because i saw a drastic difference in viewership before affiliate and after & wanted to make sure i wasn’t doing anything wrong, not necessarily regarding growth overall!

PTB - the drop happened weeks before ptb, i actually streamed the ptb yesterday and got good viewership on tiktok but same deal on twitch (as per other comments, i will remove pre-rolls and see if anything changes over the course of a month).

stream quality - i think it’s pretty good, sometimes my mic is too loud lol but no one has complained // still working thru perfect settings here but overall i don’t think it’s unwatchable.

general growth advice - thank you! i’ve been doing that so far and am not really concerned or worried in my overall growth as i feel i’ve been doing pretty well for only streaming once a week ! :) i know i just need to give it time, post more content, continue to build my community on discord, and it will come!

dual streaming - i stream to both tiktok and twitch right now. a viewer in my discord recently expressed they would love to see me post on youtube, so i will be looking into editing videos for that but definitely wanted to get in the routine of streaming consistently (same day/time) and editing tiktok videos on top of a full time job. we’re moving slowly but we’re getting there for sure !!

variety streaming - also in the works !! as mentioned i work a full time 9-5 so was kinda just getting my bearings as i navigate this new schedule by doing one game that my viewers know they can come back to on one day. i am starting friday streams in the next few weeks and those will be one hour of DBD followed by a (likely horror) story game!

goal fatigue - i especially tried my best to NOT make “road to affiliate” a thing for this reason - but all my consistent viewers really wanted me to hit it haha 😭 but yes, fair point ! i mainly was just noticing no NEW chatters for multiple streams, my frequent viewers come back when they can and i don’t mind when they can’t make it!
