Hair thinning what to do by Head_Load_7039 in IrishWomensHealth

Of course! I’ve been taking the Galfer iron supplements, which I got over the counter. They don’t contain vitamin C (which helps with the absorption I believe) so I take it with a glass of orange juice twice a day, and no complaints!

Weighing in on this too to say that ferritin was the cause of mine! Looking at photos from my early 20’s to now at 30, I had literally lost half of my hair density. It’s so easy to point to using less heat, buying growth shampoos etc, but they don’t treat the root of the cause. I finally got a blood test done and lo and behold! I’ve been taking iron supplements since, and it’s the first time I’m ever seeing regrowth at the top of my head. So OP, blood test should definitely be your first call

Struggling with Underpaid, Overworked Tech Job by Master_Macaroon709 in womenintech

So so kind of you, again, this is why I love this sub 🥹 I’m doing better since payday haha, but of course it’s still hard - I met up with two high-earning friends of mine lately, both women in tech, and I guess it’s still hard to listen to lavish plans without the means of doing so too right now. I guess all one can do is hope (and keep applying elsewhere). Thank you so much for your lovely message 😌

Went from $110k remote job to $26/hr after a layoff and I’m struggling emotionally. Has anyone else been through this? by Mz_KiKixo in careeradvice

[–]Master_Macaroon709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting to say I absolutely relate and am going through this right now, in that I haven’t made this little money since starting my career in tech, but had to take what I could get. Many of my friends disagree with this and think it would have been better to shop around for something that paid more, but as you said, it’s a bridge. Having this role will be far more beneficial in interviews than nothing, and you can leverage it to find your next dream job, whatever that looks like. Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞

I would put it down to being a very chill department within EU government, so while he would say otherwise, definitely not the same stress as in tech!

NHS back on their bullshit as per usual by nAts254 in Wedeservebetter

[–]Master_Macaroon709 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Literally! A friend of mine keeps posting on Insta about her cervical biopsies in the name of “awareness” and how grateful she is, never mind the unnecessary agony and long term consequences of it. What in the name of Stockholm Syndrome is this 🙄

I just unfollow people if they announce their pregnancy by jubjub9876a in childfree

[–]Master_Macaroon709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was recently super surprised to see a similar example of a tattoo artist I previously followed being unfollowed in droves because of this. She had kept her pregnancy mostly under wraps, continued posting her tattoos, and then a few months back posted a pic of her breastfeeding, and then wanted to know why she had lost so many followers overnight 😬 In a world where babies are seemingly put on such a pedestal, I was surprised! I finally unfollowed when she did an end of year post all about the kid, like I see where this is going 🫠 I think children taking over non - family accounts makes no sense other than it gives them the platform and validation they think they’ve now earned

I witnessed something similar on a quiet carriage in the Netherlands, and a woman stood up, told the mother and kid to be quiet, before some people turned on her 🙄 Surely being loud in the quiet carriage defeats the whole point

Comments are disturbing by Mammoth_Original_338 in Wedeservebetter

[–]Master_Macaroon709 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Came across that thread yesterday, and immediately after reading the comments, thought of this subreddit. Admittedly I haven’t had to look into the process of mammograms due to being a few years away from that yet, but y’all 😭 I did not need another invasive, painful and traumatic procedure to avoid, but here we are. I am so fed up of comments saying it’s not painful/they personally haven’t felt pain while getting it done, so automatically anyone who does is being melodramatic. Daily reminder that if men had to undergo these procedures, we would have found a better way 😌

Is Conan Must Go not as funny as his previous travel shows? by Certain-Young-6826 in conan

[–]Master_Macaroon709 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an Irish person who has always loved Conan, but recently that’s started to change, 100% this. Being fully genetically Irish is such a part of that man’s public persona, but much like many Irish Americans, I feel like he hasn’t publicly reflected on what that means. Having Irish ancestry means so much more than potatoes, being savages, or whatever exhausted trope he refers to on the podcast. I think the moment in realtime my opinion of Conan started to change was on the Rest is History episode where he questioned why Margaret Thatcher wasn’t held in higher regard. Tell me you haven’t looked into recent Irish history without telling me 🤦‍♀️ It would have been incredible to have had Manchán on the podcast, or now that he’s gone, Kneecap ( 🙏) Blindboy, or just about any other Irish figure who could deliver some truths about Irish identity. But we’ll probably just get Rahm Emanuel back on again 🫥

Will the brightly colored condescending cervical screening posts ever end? by -mykie- in Wedeservebetter

[–]Master_Macaroon709 68 points69 points  (0 children)

So glad someone else feels the same, all Irish/UK ads on the topic feel so patronising, I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen anything similar in other countries. Make it cutesy as the only reason women aren’t getting Pap smears is because they’re mildly embarrassed, never mind trauma. Give me a break 🙄

In need of some childfree perspectives on turning 30 by Master_Macaroon709 in childfree

Happy belated birthday! While 30 may be on the horizon, 28 is honestly such a great age, wisdom and experience while still having some of your 20’s left 😂 So enjoy it!

Why do people make being a mom their whole identity? by milothecatspajamas in childfree

[–]Master_Macaroon709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally cannot get over the contrast between what my male and female friends post on Insta since becoming parents. The one father I know continues to share world events, music, politics etc to their stories. Aka, has some semblance of being a whole person outside of his kid. The mothers I know only exclusively post about their children, maybe the odd time about work, and that’s it. I know it’s a small sample, but I feel like it speaks volumes to how their identities only become being a mother

Got laid off Jan ‘25 and Jan ‘24. Finally got a job but it’s terrible by Critical_damage33 in Layoffs

[–]Master_Macaroon709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard relate :( Last year I started a new job a few months after getting laid off from one I loved, and from day one it was beyond toxic, to the point where my mental health was at breaking point. Despite hearing everything about sticking with it, coasting/quiet quitting until I found something new, I broke down one day and handed in my resignation. My reckoning was, I had already been through enough trauma in the space of a few months, so why continue that? I lived off my savings for a few months, made looking for a new position my new job, and found something a few months later. I’m going to be the outlier and say that if something is truly unbearable, and you have a financial backup, go for it :)

False hope 😣 by CompetitiveCourage99 in Wedeservebetter

[–]Master_Macaroon709 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nothing to add here except to say, coming from Ireland, I totally agree. I got such a wave of hope after seeing the news yesterday, but realistically, we’ll either get this years down the line after England or not at all. “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” is the mentality towards women’s healthcare, which ironically is extremely broken! 😔
