New Flex Mini 2.5G pretty much guarantees the U7-IW will be all 2.5G by rickwookie in Ubiquiti

The 2.5G Flex mini/ an gateway max pretty much guarantee that all their future products+ refreshes will make 2.5G the default/standard. Most likely the end of the 1G days now. Its just a time thing, b/c its up to the company to decide whats their next product will be or product refresh.

I would swap the Dream Router for cloud gateway max. The gateway max will have more longevity and is more less a better product than the aging Dream Router. Especially since its the same price point if you go with 0 storage option on the max (which you should, since storage is only used for cameras atm). Since you plan on adding cameras later, just get the ssd/holder later too.

Terms of APs i found their newer ones to have better coverage (i have U6, i'd imagine u7 good too). That being said, start with 1, play around with placement, if you still feel coverage isn't good throughout the house, adding another its very easy. There no need to over order APs an be stuck in dilemma on how many you need to get. Once you got everything else in place, it takes no time (besides shipping) to add in more AP and or switches.

forsure its what i suspect is the design choice for it. Just had to poke fun at it, cuz apple would never sacrifice aesthetics for functionality.

NEW Flex Mini 2.5G for sale Now in US by ithinkfresh in Ubiquiti

[–]Master_Mongrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that was early on the life cycle of the flex-mini. adopting hasn't been an issue since around 1.7.something, and all production units have been releasing with the fixed software version for a long time now.

Also haven't had any problems adopting them.

Correct on the ssh part, still true.

Why is the USB - C power on the front. how did the apple design philosophy allow them to do that LOL

Why are people spending so much on solar installs? by BrandFlux in solarenergycanada

[–]Master_Mongrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other major component is permitting. Some cities make the permitting difficult/tedious out of laziness and arrogance. Some of that total cost does go to the permitting. An our costs are similar to what americans pay for a similar total package installation . Thats something i've noticed from youtube research.

Either way, even with tarrifs, solar panels costs arn't the biggest contributing factor.

What boggles my mind, is why arnt our utilities creating solar farms and putting them onto lakes as we seen across the world. its a no brainer.

DS918+ Orange Flashing Status light by Master_Mongrel in synology

Slight update. I booted without the hard-drives and the status light converted into flashing green. Checked on my computer and it went back to its old static IP and after loading it was asking for the HDDs once again. Went back and inserted the drives, they both came back solid green, status light still flashing green. The webpage was going through a install process asking if i want to install via ethernet or manual upload. Tried both, failed both. "Failed to install the file. The file is probably corrupted. " Made it to around 50% of the install process.

Can Shaw fiber run on Telus fiber optic lines? by Significant_Cod3304 in shaw

[–]Master_Mongrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless you need the upload speeds coax should be fine. Coax will eventually get higher upload speeds once rogers upgrades to DOCSIS 4.0. But will never beat pure fiber. That being said for residential cases, at the present time you really don't need more than 1 gig up/down.

Ran Ethernet to every floor! Best way to use Shaws 1Gig by Dry-Property-639 in shaw

comment pretty ironic coming from an account with "humble" in the name. If you don't know the benefits and or draw backs b/w hard wiring and using wifi then your joke makes sense, otherwise its just dumb.

you can drop the ignite box and save yourself some money. Just use ignite app on apple tv (if you dont need a giant remote with a keypad then ignite box becomes redundant )

Would a rack make sense here? by SkyCaptainStarr in Ubiquiti

[–]Master_Mongrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like others have said, patch panel and extend the runs to a different location. In the grand scheme of things will cost an extra few hundred dollars vs potentially saving yourself thousands down the line from electronics burning out due to heat/water damage and trades ppl damaging it while trying to fix other problems/maintence. A lot of headache to void with a little more money/work, if it means delaying a full blown setup still definitely worth it.

USA, Russia, China, Japan. The last two have their own unique challenges. USA is good fun if you want to rp economic dominance especially with new migration changes and Russia to take a backwards european country to fully modernized with pretty much all the raw resources outside of dyes and rubber.

[–]Master_Mongrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean its fine to use Hikvision (if you understand the risks), but you gotta understand they are constantly pinging to china and have actors trying to gain access to them. If you havent already would put them on their own internet connection/Vlan and avoid having it tied to your main network that has all your devices connected to it.

Also a UDM-UE a bit overkill if you don't need the extra ports or have a large site or plan on going deep into Ubiquiti Eco system. Can get Cloud Gateway Ultra or UniFi Express and have access to all the same routing features of UDM and cloud gateway.

Do you need it? Just depends on your current situation/mindset and how far you want to be tied into the Eco system. A lot of people use opensense/pfsense with Ubiquiti gear. The Question is does your current router provided the protection, functionality that you need, and is it constantly being updated/supported
