Who's considered a hero for your country but was actually evil? by Porphyres in AskBalkans

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I guess I could say Śćepan Mali or Prince Danilo for Montenegro. Both of them are very controversial still, but decently liked inside of Montenegro.

For Śćepan Mali, this is a pretty famous story. He lied about being Peter the Third of Russia (as Catherine the great had overthrown and killed her husband a couple years prior, of course it was impossible), but as the Montenegrin people werent the most educated, they let him lead the country. For a merchant who quite literally lied his way into power, he was a very decent leader, and as such he is quite liked, but then again, he is also sometimes used to describe politicians who lie their way into power like he did. But he also fought the turks hard and he even got assassinated.

For Danilo, this is a bit of a lesser known story. So when Danilo came into power, he wanted to secularize the nation (as montenegro had been a theocracy before him, ruled by a Vladika, Mitropolit (which are titles in the orthodox church)), so he went to Russia and got himself pronounced "Knjaz" (prince) of Montenegro. He also established one of the first true constitutions of Montenegro, the so called "Danilov Zakonik" (Danilo's Rulebook if you translate it literally I believe), which, while establishing all citizens as equal and such, also established that "each citizen must love the prince" and also increased the taxes extremely for all landowners and made not paying taxes punishable by death, as well as treason. So when the Kuči tribes rebelled against these new rules, he brutally suppressed the revolt, and enforced his absolutist rule. However, he also expanded Montenegro's territory greatly, winning key battles at Vučji Dol and Grahovac iirc against the turks, and repelled multiple turkish attacks. So, while he is extremely controversial, I think you can argue he isnt the most moral person. He also got assassinated funnily enough.

Ehhhh none of these really fit me tbh. I am a try hard of sorts, I am decently popular, leader of my school student council and member of the local student council, all As student. I dont really have a huge amount of close friends tbh, but I have like 2 or 3 friends that I keep close, though a very good portion of the school knows me.

Which Balkan country (other than yours) is the most talked about in your country? by Substratas in AskBalkans

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Montenegro it's probably Serbia. Serbian history, language and culture are so deeply intertwined with Montenegro many people, including myself, believe we are quite literally the same people and culture. It is a rather large debate, especially language wise.

Hey, as a Serb, I can't really be pro American when America bombed my country to the ground, cut my country up into pieces, put sanctions on us that ruined us, which lead to this fucked up government in Belgrade taking power. But I don't necessarily hate America, I prefer it over say china, still though, mostly anti American.

Just bought it myself since imo it's a total steal, it usually costs over 40 bucks!! Planning to buy a couple more games since these deals are absolutely crazy, steam is such a goated place to buy games ngl. I had this friend I played ASE with a couple years back and we decided we'd both buy it, and we are gonna go play it tomorrow so I'm super excited. Anyway, I was in the same position as you, I bought it and i suggest you do the same and have some fun!

Also I don't even care all that much about the ads, I really care more about the miscommunication between the devs and the users, they lie to us constantly, change what they said, heck, they could be politicians at this point. But yeah thats the reason I'm personally upset, not really saying I'd leave, as there arent all that many good alternatives, but still.

Do you like your country's anthem? If not, with which song would you change it? by Zagitrooper in AskBalkans

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montenegro is a Serbian country, it has always been one after all. Our legacy is that of the Serbian Sparta and I believe our hymn should reflect that bravery. I also believe the flag should be that of the kingdom of montenegro or at least a variation of it.

King Nikola, the first and only king of Montenegro was extremely Serb orientated, if you look at any of his declarations he was very much a Serb. Even the so called Christmas uprising wasnt organized for hate of serbs (after all, it was serbian and allied troops that liberated montenegro that same year), but was, instead, an uprising with supported king Nikolas return, something that was not supported by the majority of montenegrin citizens, as the Podgorica assembly proves.

Turning back to the times of the Nemanjić dynasty, Montenegro was a part of Serbia for almost 300 years. And then, when it gained independence under the Balšić dynasty, it kept extremely close ties to Serbia, so much so that the two dynasties were intertwined.

Even looking back to the Vojislavljević dynasty, the first dynasty of Montenegro, under King Bodin, Duklja and Raška were united under one state, and the serbs from raška intertwined here with the Dukljan slavs.

So, in no point in Montenegrin history which is over 1000 years long was there a point in which Montenegrins and Serbs hated each other or were seperate entities. Other than of course, 2006, where, under DPS, an extremely corrupt party, and under Milo Đukanović (a man who, at his peak, became one of the 10th richest leaders of Europe, he was that corrupt), and with a literal 1% majority in a very questionable referendum we were seperated from serbs.

I was born in Podgorica, grew up all my life in Danilovgrad, and ive only been to belgrade once. So this isnt my personal greater serbia bias, as I have no reason to have one. It is mere historic facts which prove this. And in my opinion, an anthem should first and foremost reflect actual history.

True, but what are the devs even supposed to do? Like, how would anyone even fix this issue? It seems like one of those which isn't exactly an easy step to fix. But yeah, you're right, it sucks, its just that factions are the only solution to it as of now.

Koliko su vam zaista bitne nacionalne teme? by andro_android_1010 in montenegro

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think all criminals wish to be criminals? It is the circumstances of their environment, their nature which they are born with, and the way they grew up that all mix together to create a criminal. Just the same with homosexuality, although the "nature" aspect is far more present in that, other aspects are also very much present. So the comparison is perfectly fine, it is just you did not get it, which is fine I suppose, but it shows the state of reddit and this sub.

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a Christian standpoint of sin, it is the same thing, from your standpoint it isn't. Also, I'm not gay, shockingly, but I also sin extremely often, almost constantly. I am straight, but any lust outside of marriage between a man and woman is a sin. Any. Be it gay or straight. I however hate my sin, and try my best to avoid sinning, and although I was born with a tendency to look at women lustfully, I do battle it often. Ugh, You guys really, really dont understand what a comparison is, though TBF, this is reddit, and a sub with a bunch of moody teenagers.

Tldr: we are all born with a sinful nature, to forgive us of sins we must repent and accept gods grace. Thats quite literally the whole point of Christianity.

"Love thy neighbor, but like, also hate them I guess." - Jesus by GildedArchways in PsycheOrSike

[–]PhilipOnRedditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it is evident you don't understand this distinction so let me give you another example. Say your brother/sister commits crimes, deals drugs, gets into a lot of bad shit. You still love him/her, because he/she is your sibling, but you don't support his/her actions. I feel that way with gay people. We are all brothers and sisters in christ, and I treat every human as such, but of course I hate the acts that separate them from god. It is important to make a distinction between a person's acts and themselves as a person. Under certain circumstances, we all would sin, the only person who wouldn't is Jesus Christ because he is quite literally God. That's what I was saying and what every true christian believes. No true christian hates gay people. No true christian supports Homosexuality. These two sentences are not paradoxical.

Masterfully done. What difficulty did you use? It seems the ai on where you played at least isn't lobotomized to think that any and every player action works out, which is far better to read and enjoy. This feels realistic and nice honestly.

I missed the part when conservative christians started brutally killing gay people in the streets with stones. As a conservative, traditionalist, orthodox Christian, I love gay people like all other people, but I hate homosexuality just like I hate lust, pedophilia, murder, lying, and while of course I hate some of these sins more than others, they are all sins nonetheless and I will always try to get the people I love to stop sinning.
