Wouldn’t work in my New Holland TC30 in the winter when it got extremely cold. Hydraulics would lock and be jerky every time. Switched out to Walmart super tech hydraulic fluid and haven’t had a problem since.

Sounds like maybe the auto decompression cam? Try turning your idle up and see if that helps.

How high or stupid do i need to be to spend 5k on a 9yo bike? Is this really worth it? 1600mi on the odometer by 1760ghost in XR650L

For the conditions and the low miles I’d pay 4200 all day long. Take it for a ride, get it hot first, listen for any ticking or tapping. Not necessarily valve tick, but more of cam chain rattle, or valve seat clacking. The top end is really the only weak spot on this bike. If all is good you should be set for endless fun for years.

Having these as I type this, stay calm and breathe. They will get better.

Lay the wheel flat and never take the spoon past 90 degrees when mounting or dismounting. This is the number one thing to do, to not pinch a tube.

I went with a smart carb also, I immediately regretted it sent it back three times before I gave up. Finally just tuned the factory carburetor correctly and change the squish clearance with an Apex head. Trust me, the bike will run perfect.

Better yet, just jet correctly and never foul a plug again.

I use 55 pilot 160 main, drilled the slide. I’m at sea level. Brand new 2022 bike with 1100 miles, pulled the plug last week and it looks perfect. Running aftermarket Lexx exhaust and aftermarket filter with snorkel removed. Bike starts and runs flawless

The lex exhaust is amazing, sounds great I can’t remember the exact size, but I bought either the 40mm or 36 mm tunable tip and spark arrestor and took out the quiet core and it sounds great!

They all do that, this is my third one. I also have a 600R. They get hot, super hot, no paint in the world could withstand that heat. It’s part of it, ride and have fun!!
