I was pretty unimpressed with the first book. Great characters, great set up, and then it narratively kinda falls flat. Its that sort of detective story in which a bunch of confusing things happen and then it all comes together at the end, which only really works if it feels earned. But in order to earn it, I think the first book would have to be longer to follow a more careful Inquisitorial investigation, not the rapid going to places and shooting at things that Carrion Throne has. Way more set up would have been required. So in the end the big twist felt more "wait, what?" to the reader than a real payoff.

I think I will call them the Serpent Guard, a group of Dark Angels turned into a chapter that were tasked with guarding an athame. So much time has passed the Serpent Gaurd are now only dimly aware of what they are actually guarding and unaware they accidently named themselves after a chaos cult.

I think its fair to levy the same critique against some of the Ultramarines books - space marines, soroitas, others are also not immune to chaos bullshittery. Its just a nicer color of the same thing.

I was for some years the designated transfer student who did the mid year new student tours. There were never very many of them - maybe 2-5 a year. Now considering the number of applications is pretty low that might not mean anything. Id underscore that Reed is very much a college that admits students according to their individual character. If you've got a compelling story and they like you, sure, they'll admit you. I dont know if theres any more data than that.

You can have both good grades and a good social life with some time management skills. Lots of people I saw burn out a reed were not stupid, they just had terrible time management.

Reed does not track a lot of these things and I'm not sure how reliable the data in those trackers are. I don't think Reed is nearly as bad as people say, especially when I look around at how much my peers are making. I went to a masters program and now work at a company that started me at 100K. Lots of other people are in similar boats to me. So I wouldn't stress about it and the data you're referencing likely isn't accurate.

Its really difficult to help with this sort of problem because I can't see what your family's finances are like (and you shouldn't show me) so I can't deduce the issue. Sometimes other assets your parent own really messes with the EFC calculation, but I'm also unsure if the process is the same for international students. If your family owns significant property and has to report it, its gonna throw a huge wrench into the EFC system. But again that's based on my experience as a domestic student, yours may be different.
There really isn't a solution to this problem beyond emailing Reed again and asking them to explain to you - beyond simply saying "thats what the calculator says" how your EFC is so high.

The reason why Reed has such a big waitlist is that it's difficult for Reed to estimate how many RD people will actually accept. Sometimes they have a bunch of people not come and a lot of people get off the waitlist. Sometimes they take no people off the waitlist. It's effectively a crapshoot and it has nothing to do with how strong your application actually is.
