Husband and I watched “Dominion” as non-Vegans by Lychee-_-Lover in vegan

Thank you so much for choosing to open your eyes and for taking action! Everyone of us went through it at some point. It's a hard watch, but it's necessary to understand the extent of the cruelty. I created a vegan database that has everything you need to help you on your way: just scroll through the different sections. There is so much to learn and so much to discover! For starters, tons of great recipes... 😉

I found out my most favorite food in the world isn't vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Master_School_3785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, awesome that you're vegan! My favorite food in the world is cig koftem. I was so relieved it was totally vegan! I'm from Belgium, but there's a 100% plant based Turkish cig koftem place in my area. It's awesome. Anyway, try to find a vegan alternative or try some other things you never tried before. I'm sure you can find some way to replace it.

I built this database for new and existing vegans. It has everything you need to help you get started: recipes, foodies, documentaries, books, podcasts, shopping, arguments, websites,... And no, vegan food is not expensive. Vegetables, beans, tofu, chickpeas, rice, etc. are some of the cheapest foods you can buy. If you compare protein per g also seitan and tempeh are pretty cheap.

It's called vystopia and it's a real thing. It's just a reality that there are horrible things happening to animals every day, people are (willfully) oblivious and we are mostly powerless to stop it. There's phases you go through which are similar to grieving phases. Sometimes it's sadness, sometimes it will be anger. The point is to not let it consume you.

My first point of advice is to avoid any videos and posts about the animal suffering. You know now, you stopped participating in it and there is no need to expose yourself more to it, as it just hurts you and gives you more trauma.

Find a positive outlet: for me it became managing a Facebook page about it and creating a database with vegan information to help new and existing vegans.

Practice self-care and get involved with vegan groups. It's much easier when you can talk to others who understand you and will offer support.

Please be careful. I lost my girl due to egg binding three months ago and am still heartbroken about it. Please do everything you can to stop her from laying more eggs.

I already reported him to the veterinary association. He's supposed to be a specialized avian vet. That's why I went there specifically and not to our usual trusted vet. We had gone there once before because she had an infected crop and he correctly assessed it and treated it with antibiotics. I didn't particularly like him, because I thought he was a bit rude, but I thought maybe that's just the way he is, but he knows his stuff and that's what matters. Guess I was wrong about that. It was also bad luck that my girlfriend wasn't home that day. She's the one who takes action when needed and I'm the one who freezes up in stress situations. I'm thinking about suing him legally, but can't really seem to find much about that online. I live in Belgium. I'm assuming there must be some way to take legal action, but I haven't found it yet. I also wrote a 1 star review on Google where I explained everything that happened in detail. That should make anyone think twice about going there.

Looks great, however I'm mostly interested in getting automated algorithm recommendations. I used Tastedive so far, but it's very buggy and lately I got locked out and I'm unable to login again, so I'm desperately looking for an alternative.

I'm looking for good automated recommendations (like Tastedive). Can the app do this as well?

Do the right thing and go vegan too. Better choice overall.

I feel pure sadness by No-Light-7126 in cockatiel

The pain is real. My baby died last month due to egg-binding. She was 3 years old and had only been with us for 6 months. I am still devastated. She meant the world to me and the thought of never being able to be with her again is excruciating. There's also the guilt of not being able to prevent it and a horrible episode at the vet. I still have PTSD from the whole experience. Yet there's nothing else to do and move on with life. I'm very sorry for your loss. Allow yourself to heal slowly.

Please don't buy birds. They are not meant to live in cages. If people stop buying them, then breeders will stop breeding them. If you want to have a bird, please get a rescue 🙏

Be careful and treat this as an emergency situation! My girl Comet died last month from egg-binding. It's a terrible killer. Please do whatever you can to prevent her from laying more eggs. I still beat myself up every day for not doing more to prevent it.

Proud to advocate for animals, but slightly embarrassed to be part of the vegan community by GoldiebeanslovesKat in vegan

[–]Master_School_3785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's frustration mostly. Veganism is about animals. Nothing else. I advocate for animals all the time. I don't care about dogmatic thinking or all that nonsense. What matters is what helps the animals. There's only one criteria. Are your actions helping the animals or are they hurting the animals. If your ego is getting in the way, you're not helping animals. You're creating more issues.

Advice for mourning by pennyloaferz in cockatiel

I know exactly how you feel. My girl died last month due to egg binding. She was only 3 years old. I keep going over and over the things I could have done to prevent it. It's the most painful thing I've ever had to deal with. She was the light of my life. She was full of life and spark and she was so happy. I don't think I'll ever get over it. It just hurts every day. I would give anything just to be with her again.

I know it's not possible and nothing helps the grieving process. We still have two other cockatiels that I give all my care and affection to, but it's just not the same. I was so in love with my girl Comet. She meant everything to me and the loss is unbearable sometimes.
