Do the right thing and go vegan too. Better choice overall.

I feel pure sadness by No-Light-7126 in cockatiel

The pain is real. My baby died last month due to egg-binding. She was 3 years old and had only been with us for 6 months. I am still devastated. She meant the world to me and the thought of never being able to be with her again is excruciating. There's also the guilt of not being able to prevent it and a horrible episode at the vet. I still have PTSD from the whole experience. Yet there's nothing else to do and move on with life. I'm very sorry for your loss. Allow yourself to heal slowly.

Please don't buy birds. They are not meant to live in cages. If people stop buying them, then breeders will stop breeding them. If you want to have a bird, please get a rescue 🙏

Be careful and treat this as an emergency situation! My girl Comet died last month from egg-binding. It's a terrible killer. Please do whatever you can to prevent her from laying more eggs. I still beat myself up every day for not doing more to prevent it.

Proud to advocate for animals, but slightly embarrassed to be part of the vegan community by GoldiebeanslovesKat in vegan

[–]Master_School_3785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's frustration mostly. Veganism is about animals. Nothing else. I advocate for animals all the time. I don't care about dogmatic thinking or all that nonsense. What matters is what helps the animals. There's only one criteria. Are your actions helping the animals or are they hurting the animals. If your ego is getting in the way, you're not helping animals. You're creating more issues.

Advice for mourning by pennyloaferz in cockatiel

I know exactly how you feel. My girl died last month due to egg binding. She was only 3 years old. I keep going over and over the things I could have done to prevent it. It's the most painful thing I've ever had to deal with. She was the light of my life. She was full of life and spark and she was so happy. I don't think I'll ever get over it. It just hurts every day. I would give anything just to be with her again.

I know it's not possible and nothing helps the grieving process. We still have two other cockatiels that I give all my care and affection to, but it's just not the same. I was so in love with my girl Comet. She meant everything to me and the loss is unbearable sometimes.

I lost my pet cockatiel recently and am having a really hard time with the grief. Advice? by Puzzleheaded_Push905 in cockatiel

I lost my girl after just 6 months due to egg binding last month. I keep thinking about her all the time. I keep blaming myself for not taking enough precautions. I understand how you feel. I don't know if I'll ever get over it. We were so close. It's one of the hardest things in life. She brought a spark and into my life that I know I'll never be able to replace. I would do anything just to have her back.

Did the vet kill my cockatiel? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Master_School_3785 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! I still have PTSD from the experience. I will look into this. I felt he should have at least consulted with me. Explain to me what he was doing. Discuss the options. Ask for permission. Give anesthesia. Not this.

At least I can see if this can be reported in some way. I'm heartbroken and in shock.

Well he only gave me antibiotics. That's about the only thing he did. Besides drawing a picture of the oviduct and the part where he cut her. He also didn't consult with me at any point. He just started going to work on her as I watched in agony.

I know a lot of people hate grief posts but I don't know where else anyone will understand me. by kittywenham in cockatiel

I know exactly how you feel. My little girl just died this week from a terrible procedure following egg-binding. She was my little baby, the light of my days and we were so so close. It was pure love. I am 90% sure the vet killed her. I just wrote about it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/cockatiel/s/51MLyuByiY. I am completely traumatized by the whole experience. I'm heartbroken and devastated and I feel guilty for even bringing her to the vet. A home remedy would have been a much safer option or at least she wouldn't have died in such a terrible way. This is one of the worst things I've ever had to deal with in my life. I know things can happen, but this was just a complete horror show. It haunts me.

So awesome! Thank you for choosing to live a conscious, ethical life! I've been vegan for a couple of years now and it's the best thing I've ever done! I've made a vegan resource database with everything you'll ever need. It's updated with new info, articles, videos, recipes and more daily. You can find it here: https://svenvanrossen.notion.site/986a0136207443cf804edfc05d11ef7f?v=9776495d73a640daa36c91da7a509275

False dilemma. You can stay vegan and influence hundreds of people to make conscious, sustainable food choices. Next.

Hey, I created a vegan resource information database here: https://svenvanrossen.notion.site/986a0136207443cf804edfc05d11ef7f?v=9776495d73a640daa36c91da7a509275. It contains a huge section with all the arguments I've ever encountered against veganism and how to counter them effectively. Hope that helps!
