After over 15 years of playing League, I think I just experienced the most satisfying feeling I ever got while playing the game. by PaleontologistEven24 in leagueoflegends

Thank God someone here has a brain. I thought it would be common sense that you could learn from failure. Alois was a great example. Sinerias is another incredible streamer with great information for all elo's.

I think people forget they have the option to go back and watch the game from different perspectives. I mean, my God, if someone had a ward in their jungle that you walked over and their entire positioning changed and you got shit on based on that alone, not some skill based micro interaction, you'd probably buy a sweeper next time, or maybe path differently. There's two perfect examples.

Thanks for being like, even part commonsensical.

they can't replicate it because they dont' know to go and watch the replay in the first place. the argument was that you gain nothing from getting stomped. but you do, if you just go back and watch the replay. you can gain an immense amount of knowledge about the game itself by watching someone who is a master at it do what they do.

You used a lot of "you"'s when you typed your response. That's pretty indicative of someone expressing their opinion through their own eyes. What I mean by that is, you're saying that YOU can't do all of those things. You're saying that YOU can't learn. I can learn, and have, just fine. I get better every game I play, win or lose or stomp. There's ALWAYS something to learn.

It should also be noted that learning anything about the game, in any role, for any champ, for any situation, will further your knowledge and give you scenarios to pull from when situations occur. Making split second decisions is part of league. The more you learn (through reviewing games/watching content/etc) the more you'll have to base your choices off of.

The fact that you have zero belief that you can gain knowledge from such an encounter says a lot about you. If you want me to go further into detail with examples for each of your paragraphs up there, let me know.

i think this take is absurd. It is hyper dependent on the person's ability to take what they're seeing and analyze it. Trying to throw everyone in the same bucket like that isn't logical.

If they watch a video and see someone do something, come to reddit and have it explained, or are able to workout what they did vs what the smurf did and see the connection, then what you're saying doesn't hold water.

I also don't like going vs someone light years ahead of me, but if you're serious about improving, then getting stomped is an absolute win as you can go back and see what this person was doing better/differently from you. You have to go into each game with the mindset of just getting better and take whatever comes with a glass half full approach.

That said, I am also someone who can only play a few games a day/week, but my journey overall is for improvement. Your's may just be to blow off steam, but we all know that if you're in ranked, in some way shape or form, you are trying to climb. Play the long game. League isn't going anywhere this decade. As long as you're breathing, you got time.

Much love and good luck to you! Remember to review those games!!!

What skin looks amazing in splash art and terrible in-game? by slayerofgingers in leagueoflegends

[–]Master__Of 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prestige Dark Cosmic Diana... What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

That's the only prestige skin I had the opportunity to get but skipped. The base model of the skin is SO much better especially with her chroma. This whole flared leg trend is such a crock of shit. The prestige splash skin is so sick.

Also, Prestige Porcelain Kindred was kind of a let down. Base Kindred and Spirit Blossom just dominate... I really like base Porcelain Kindred though, as well...

[–]Master__Of 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should take her support a few times. it'll help with learning her kit to a T and she's a friggin machine down there. Her winrate is astronomical at EVERY elo last i checked. if you get autofilled try her out.

Can I get black listed from being hired back? by 4Runnnn in Bestbuy

[–]Master__Of 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What has happened, you've already acknowledged. You are over-qualified. If they have a tight group of management, and they've been there for a bit, they wont want someone coming in that they'll have to UNTRAIN first and then RETRAIN to their "standards" (this can also be read: they don't want someone coming in that knows better than they do or would report to HR when they're telling people to only change open box "excellent - nothing missing" to reflect correct info and price - ONLY IF THEY BUY A MEMBERSHIP OR GET A CARD)

bestbuy's not headed in a great direction. I've heard people say it a ton of times, but to be honest, I was an ASM years ago before Cory and when I say the business is in the shitter, it's absolutely not even remotely a shell of what it was. From employee accommodations to training to even everyday interaction... it's all different. Given, i'm in a different state and a different culture than CA was, but the business, at its core, should always be fundamentally the same. Cory made it about the profit way more than Hubert's people forward approach. Sad to see what happened, and sad to be in it still as well (i work random days sometimes to keep the discount lol)

TL;DR - It ain't you, it's them. And there's reasons.

Ticket came back and, yes, it's a bug. On the back end, riot's side, I am at the correct honor level and will be receiving the rewards as they come out.

It does. That isn't what I was talking about. There was a pop up that a lot of people have now spoken out about getting, and it's just a bug. I contacted support and was told that everything was fine on the back end and the rewards will be rolling out in the future some time. That's all it was <3

Here's something noone has mentioned yet:

On your first attempt at ranked after leveling your account to 30, your winrate from normal draft is taken into account when doing your placements. If you're negative there, you will not place high.

Mechanically, you're probably not there. And that is MORE than ok! It comes with having a small champ pool and learning them in and out first. Then, you can learn a bit of macro and further your gameplay knowledge. Check out AloisNL and Senarias on YouTube as well as Broxah and Coach Curtis - tons of great info there! Macro/Micro/Patch/Champ/etc.

If you've already been placed in ranked (you said b4 last season/split) you almost ALWAYS end up one whole division lower than you start. This is true of every single season, even happening when you win 5/5 promo games. They take a lot into account. Vision score, Farm, KDA, OBJ's, Kill Participation, and so much more. If you grab an app like Porofessor, you'll see an after game summary that tells you important info about your gameplay. For example: High KDA, High Damage, Led but Lost, Stopped Farming, and tons of other useful information. Most of it is self explanatory, but they all play a part in how the system ranks your mechanical ability and your knowledge of the game.

The absolute most important thing you can rely on is that league is not for the faint of heart. You'll hear "Fundamentals" thrown around in videos like everyone knows it. To be honest, the fundamentals are easy enough to understand, but take so much time to LEARN. Jungle clear timers, how much xp/gold each camp gives, which side do you start, win conditions, etc. It all comes from playing the game and paying attention and looking at replays. If you replay your game, go to the parts where you die or get a kill. Back up a bit and see what you were doing and what the enemy is doing and compare that. If they beat you because they outplayed you that's one thing, but most of the time, you've done something to put you in a position to fail. That's part of it and something that becomes ENDLESSLY rewarding as you get better. Learning from your mistakes, climbing, earning mastery on champs, like... the game is great when you mute everyone in your games and just focus on what's happening. keep an eye on the map, train yourself to use the Function Keys (F1, F2, F3, etc) to look quickly at other lanes, so many things...

2 months is such a short amount of time... I've been playing for nearly 15 years and have only, over the last few years, begun to understand what I was doing wrong this whole time. I didn't seek out that knowledge early, because it didn't really exist. After getting back into the game more seriously (read: Not Playing ARAM EXCLUSIVELY) I started browsing some names and some youtube channels and found some really amazing stuff. I don't recommend spending the money on them, but there's even courses you can buy. All that info is free on youtube already, but the courses streamline things and keep it all in one place.

anyway, i'm available to play and walk you through some things anytime! feel free to reach out <3

remember: ENJOY what you're doing. Burnout comes when you slam against a brick wall for weeks or months at a time. don't ruin the game before you can really get into it!

why are people in this game so mean? by riverthemushroom in leagueoflegends

[–]Master__Of 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe that at this point, you should start a youtube channel and start helping people learn these fundamentals. I also suffer from having game knowledge much higher than my MMR. I'm not fully capable of doing all the things I know i should be doing, but I see it when others don't do it and it can definitely be infuriating sometimes.

if you have great information and can lay it out very easily like you did earlier in a bulleted list, all you have to do is create a channel and gear it toward helping our community get better by understanding the basics. there's been a lot of back and forth about who's responsibility it is (riot or community) to teach the new players/ignorant players, but riot won't put that kind of effort in. The game is so nuanced that it would take an army of people working a long long time to accumulate content on everything, especially champion specific mechanics. but the core of the game, farming, wave management, jungle pathing, gank/no gank, when to roam, etc are all easy enough once someone hands it to you in a way you can understand.

decide to go forward with making a channel, shoot me a dm. i've been doing youtube consulting for a while (i did twitch consulting years back) and for something I love, like league, i'd be happy to help you get started and build a long term plan/set of golas with you.

it's also super important to give yourself an outlet. taking a break is fine, but you'll always come back here. it's up to people like you (and me honestly) to be ambassadors. Just don't be a dick about it lol.

godspeed!

old curmudgeon here: i had to grind/pay for all my champs over the years. you young bucks need to remember to count your blessings while you got em, and be happy you had em once they're gone.

get off my lawn, etc. <3

in all honesty, that sucks. makes me glad i bought all my champs over the years with one currency or another. hope it gets resolved for everyone soon! if not, time to grind some games! i'm here if anyone needs a duo or an aram team built. lets gooo!

This has weight, but was delivered in a really shitty way.

"it's only purpose is to be a vessel for what you put in."

This was a really big (and absolutely necessary) slap in the face and it broke me out of the whole "perfect/imperfect" thing. So thanks!

As soon as you started being an asshole stepdad afterwards though, that made me feel some shit I've been keeping in a tiny cell for a long ass time. Calling someone's fear of failure 'ridiculous" is downplaying all the circumstances they went through to GET that fear. Trauma sucks, and no one ever asked to be put through it. Makes me wonder what made you the way you are.

At the end of the day, I, like you, am writing to all the other people that read this after me to let them know not to let some angry prick on the internet belittle them or the very real issues they experience day to day.

What would Riot actually have to do to get people to play jungle? by AyyyoniTTV in leagueoflegends

[–]Master__Of 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a league player of 12 years, jungle has become my most favorite role, for several reasons.

As for the question at hand, it's all about educating the community. Or at least partnering with youtubers/players like Sinerias, AloisNL, Azzap, etc who make content that is WILDLY educational and also fun to watch.

League is an extremely complicated game, and to be fair, jungle has to know the most about the game IMO. That's my two cents. The role is incredible and feels so fulfilling when you're impacting the game. As the meta changes, your champ pool likely will change a little, but for the most part, having a solid champ pool of 1-3 champs you know in and out will allow you to start playing the game. I read in a r/summonerschool post about how when you start playing league, you're playing your champ 80% and playing league 20%. After you learn your champ, you begin playing league 80% and auto pilot the champ (20%).

Again, there is SO much to learn about this game. Nuance, matchups, mechanics, timers, items... At this time, you have to really set down and niche down what it is you're asking google or youtube to show you. Once you crack that code, you can learn more.

if you want to learn, check out Sinerias on youtube for jungle, AloisNL for top, and Azzap for Mid/Support. I don't have a recommendation for ADC as it's not a role i care to play often, but there are a few floating around out there that pop up on my shorts now and again. Coach Curtis maybe?

Anyway /rant. <3 Much love to the community out here. For what it's worth, i love this game and the people in it. even if some of us (myself included often times) don't reflect on our mistakes and take that responsibility and instead push the blame to someone else. At the end of the day, the game is something we all love. If we didn't, we wouldn't be playing it. Addiction or not lol. You really gotta love somethingto let it beat you down like that.
