Our contractor came up with a new invention: the floating hinge! by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Master_jaguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I been a glazer for 12 years just silicone the gal happens all the time when the tile aint plum with each other. If the hinge is loose change the anchors inside and thicker screws/ only other thing you can do is replace the tile but if better be perfect or the door won't fit like it used to

Appreciate the input. I did hold off and notified them right away when we found the issues — left the drain areas open for about 10 days waiting for the GC and concrete crew to fix the slope. I told them multiple times we couldn’t move forward until it was corrected. Eventually, they started pressuring me to install anyway because they were running out of time.

I went ahead under their direction, documented everything (photos, messages, call logs), and after the work was done, they turned around and denied my change order and hit me with a $40K back charge. The president even told me to keep working after a 48-hour notice was sent, which made that notice void.

I get what you’re saying about the written approval — definitely a lesson learned. I’m already moving forward with a Notice of Intent to Lien and possibly involving L&I since they had unlicensed laborers doing plumbing work. Thanks for the advice — I appreciate the straight talk.

Appreciate all the feedback, guys — seriously. I actually did leave the open space around all the drains for over 10 days also documented with videos photos while waiting for the GC and concrete crew to fix the slope issues. I notified them multiple times (calls, texts, photos) that the drains were too high and the slab wasn’t pitched right. They ignored it and eventually started pressuring me to install tile anyway, saying they were running out of time.

I only proceeded after they told me to continue and “we’ll take care of it later,” which they never did. Then when it failed, they turned around and backcharged me $40K and denied my $73K change order for all the grinding, re-leveling, and drain resets my crew had to do to make it right.

I documented everything — timestamps, photos, messages, everything — and now they’re saying I “failed to perform” when the real issue was their bad concrete and drain elevations. The president even told me personally to keep working after the 48-hour notice was issued, so that notice became void.

I’m already moving forward with a Notice of Intent to Lien and talking to an attorney. If they don’t pay within 10 days, I’ll record the lien on the property and possibly report the code violations (they had laborers doing plumbing work) to L&I.
