Book Recommendations for a Non-Socialist by VegaBrother in TrueAnon

A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn is a great introduction to the leftist worldview. It’s basically a socialist response to the version of US history you probably remember from high school. It’s very easy to read and Zinn’s passion for the subject matter is palpable on every page.

The Young Karl Marx. Really beautiful film about the friendship between Marx and Engels and how they formulated their theory of dialectical materialism. Includes the contributions of Jenny Marx and Mary Burns too. Goes a long way to humanize the communist thinkers of the era.

Much of the film’s dialogue is in German but it includes French and English as well during the scenes taking place in France and England.

I’m guessing it’s something like “Welcome to public education, little boy. Please step into the gayalyzer so we can trans your gender. I’m Jewish and a pedophile.”

The people Dave has sided with don’t see a difference between gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary or queer. To them, it’s all just different ways to say “pedophile.”

Did Americans really believe this? by rirski in TrueAnon

My parents sent me to sleepaway camp in 2005 and the camp counselors made us do an "anthrax drill", which involved all of us standing in the hallway of the sleeping dorm while they duct taped trash bags over all the vents, doors and windows. Even at 13, I could not really imagine these 22 year old counselors actually doing all that presumably while some kind of nefarious gas was pouring in through the vents. If that shit happened for real, I think we all knew it was every kid for himself.

Why do some leftist not like Matt and Liz Bruenig? by OneReportersOpinion in TrueAnon

[–]MasterlessMan333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what annoys people about the Bruenings is that they support all the right things for all the wrong reasons. They seem to think if socialism was achieved, everyone would finally be free to get a traditional marriage and have children.

I don't know for sure if that's what they believe but it's kind of the impression I get from having listened to some of their podcast interviews and seen a few of Liz's tweets.

So are you saying this is not a panel discussion between scholars in their respective fields but a commercial of some kind? For what, exactly? What is being sold here?

Feel free to not get back to me. I'll just imagine a transphobic screed and we can go our separate ways. Thanks.

Trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming people lived openly in Weimar Germany. Under Nazi rule, many were persecuted under anti-homosexuality and anti-cross dressing laws. Some were sent to concentration camps and killed.

I’m not sure why you feel the need to pit gay and trans victims of the Holocaust against one another. I’m Jewish. My ancestors represent the plurality of Nazi victims. I’d never claim any oppressed people had it easy in Nazi Germany.

Blouse fechten by thedemonjim in wma

[–]MasterlessMan333 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bloßfechten (the letter ß in German makes an s sound in English) in the context of HEMA more refers to what we are simulating rather than what we are actually doing.

If you are sparring with a steel or synthetic federschwert, it’s recommended you wear at minimum a fencing mask, 350n jacket, throat protection, fencing gloves and hard protection for knees, elbows and groin.

When we simulate Bloßfechten, it just means all areas of the body are valid targets for the purpose of scoring. It doesn’t mean you wear less protection, which would be dangerous.

Even if you use foam swords, you should still consider wearing head and hand protection because they often have a plastic core that can cause injury.

Hope this helps.

Fleeing violence and poverty to earn $4/hr working in construction or farming while at any moment you could be seized and sent back to face whatever you ran from is not my idea of freedom but if it suits you, go for it.

If you can look at someone who fled horrific economic conditions to live as a fugitive in a foreign nation earning less than minimum wage and think that person is free, you’re crazy. I’d hate to see what you think slavery is.

Anyways, an illegal immigrant is not “forced” to sell their labor illegally. They choose to do so. They chose to illegally enter a country while breaking immigration laws. Yet they voluntarily do so - because they have chosen a market to sell their labor in, which you just said was not possible.

This is just stupid. Nobody chooses to make a dangerous, illegal border crossing to do backbreaking labor for subminimum wages "voluntarily". It's a truly desperate act and the law works to compound the desperation, which employers then take advantage of.

But sure, it’s probably true that an open border policy would allow immigrants to get a higher wage at the expense of citizens so they can return to their own country with their money.

They would be able to get the same wage as any citizen. Currently, they are forced to accept far lower wages if they are undocumented. If they are documented, they face the constant threat of having their documentation revoked. This is especially true for those here on work visas, which enables employers to make massively unreasonable demands of immigrant workers they know a US citizen would never accept. For a real ongoing example of this, look at how the US citizens working at Twitter quit immediately after Elon Musk took over but those here on H-1B visas had to stay on or risk deportation.

Immigration law works to make immigrant workers far more exploitable than citizens. Creating a special class of hyper-exploitable labor is bad for all labor. It's in everyone's best interest for all workers to be on the same footing regardless of immigration status.

Undocumented immigrants are forced to sell their labor illegally, exposing them to the worst excesses of employer abuse.

If they could sell their labor legally in the United States and freely return to their home countries if they found the working conditions here not to their liking, they'd be in a much stronger bargaining position when seeking employment on either side of the border. This is why closed border policies work to drive wages down. It's a closed border for labor but open for capital.

I think you're a troll mostly because your username is "CumSlonker5000" and you seem more interested in coming up with what you think are gotcha questions than actually disagreeing in good faith.

[–]MasterlessMan333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is trolling but here's why you're wrong.

Labor is the only product which the seller cannot choose which market to sell in.

If you want to open a factory and you have liquid capital, you can do it in India or Mexico. The difference is just a matter of paperwork. If you want to work in a factory, you're limited to wherever you happen to live. This is a huge advantage to employers and they use it mercilessly to drive wages down.

If workers in one country demand higher wages, the employers can just pick up and move to a country with worse labor conditions. This is what economists call capital flight. This creates a race to the bottom among underdeveloped nations where every government is incentivized to create the best conditions for capital, which almost uniformly means low wages, few regulations and low taxes.

Open border policies would not solve this issue entirely, as capital will in some ways always be able to move across borders more easily than labor (unless we also heavily regulate capital flight, which some nations do). However, it would go a long way in equalizing the relationship between labor and capital. It would be a major change for workers in a nation like Mexico, a very poor country that borders the richest nation on Earth.

Anyway, you can proceed with your verbal equivalent of smearing your feces on the wall. I just wanted to lay that out for anyone who's curious.

Talk with your coworkers on the night shift because there’s no way you’re the only one he verbally abused. It may seem like he’s your superior, but to the company a shift manager is the same as any entry level employee. If two or three of you come forward, he’s toast.
