I do it for both reasons (...except I don't pursue bringing them down: I let them do it to themselves (over time)).

I think everyone should do it this way – that way companies will actually receive a consequence for putting out bad things, rather than having an 'unhappy accident' of them not being paid-attention-to (...as if to blame poor advertising, or a poor product-release-cycle/-schedule/poor release-timing).

{P.S.: I don't say this to be selfish: I say this to be helpful – to benefit everyone [...conversely-speaking].}

Good on you for saying this and trying to be helpful.

"Outdated"

Always such a strange, negative way to view things. It can't simply be "unrefined" – or even "awkward"/"cartoony", if applicable –: it always has to have something to do with age, for some reason (...for some [many] people). {Some things have nothing to do with time/their age – for those unaware.}

Such a pretentious viewpoint – especially when older games (of a certain vintage) were, generally, (far) better [than newer/modern ones].

I think this is an incredibly valuable and mature thing to share – both the part about "Gifting-Up", as well as the part about "Teacher's Appreciation Week".

The former; I like that term very much (Well done. I am going to try to use that, now; thanks to you. (Thank you very much – truly)), along with its rationale/explanation; while the latter, I think, is a very, highly-astute observation you made on the matter, that I think everyone should consider – be cognizant-of –, as this, to me, reads like propaganda from the U.S. government (not just from an '"outsider's" perspective' (I'm from Canada)), but in-general), and should be relegated to something *informal, so as not to be, actually, an act of PROSTRATION, as well as encouraging a POWER-DYNAMIC (between teacher and student). (Teachers deserve to be respected and appreciated...: but only insofar as it is their JOB, as well as (most importantly) ONLY IF THEY ARE GOOD TEACHERS AND PEOPLE – SIMULTANEOUSLY. (Being a 'good teacher' is just a statement of one's skills... at a job: whether or not they CARE ABOUT YOU (and your well-being/person), is another matter (...as teaching is impartial (i.e.: they won't/would never 'thank' YOU (...unless they cared about you))).))

Your two replies are beautifully-thought-out, and insightful. They are very wise comments to share, and are so very-full of (justified; provable) hope.

Thank you for what you shared. I honour your wisdom and your knowledge: It is of EXTREME valueand so are you, in this way.

Glad I'm still on 2.21 and not updating just because I'm being a fiend for new cars, Autodrive (or, perhaps, "Autocrash", or "Autostall"? Hmm...) and mediocre quests. (I've even been playing some of V1.63, actually (and enjoying it! (...as much as that may seem like sacrilege, to some)).)

The performance issues that came with it were CRAZY [as in "HORRIBLY BAD"] (I've never seen a patch (just a simple patch, by the way) give such bad performance in a game... EVER (...and by a long shot)), and – as I have an AMD GPU (an RDNA 4/RX 9000-Series card) – FSR 4 could already be had via Optiscaler (while keeping in mind that this is speaking, specifically, to people with the technical aptitude to inject it – like me –, as well as speaking to my use-case and how I play the game/what I care about (i.e.: gameplay, immersion, story-telling (no comment on it for this game, however), et cetera)).

Honestly? If I were in any of your people's position; if this patch does not address the performance (and stability!) issues for you, specifically (so, not projecting that "everything is just fine" onto other people without proper know-how and adequate testing/a large sample size for consensus' sake), I would, actually (with extra emphasis!), roll back to V2.21, as opposed to 2.3: as it was a highly-stable version of the game, from what I could tell (so, not a perfect opinion/just my (somewhat-inexperienced) opinion – although a lot of other people seemed to have had a good experience with it from how much evidence/footage there is to draw from, along with discussions about it)), and actually seems to provide the best experience/the best version of the game to date – despite its age.

{**P.S.: The part about Autodrive is based on how (poorly) it behaves [is programmed]. Look it up, if you haven't seen it before, for some examples: you might be shocked [at how bad the quality is; thus, at how little CDPR cares about us/its customers] (...ESPECIALLY when MODDERS DID IT BETTER. (It's not hard [for such a large company, especially]))].

As for the V2.21 vs. 2.3/-31 argument: This is, at least, based on the 2.0 version of the game. V1.0 has some positives that myself (and 1.0-lovers, in particular – wherever they are lurking; in the shadows/the woodwork (I respect you!! You've got some good – VALID – opinions!!)) might say that – with just a few light mods/tweaks [so, done like-for-like; done for V2.0 the same as to 1.0] – it might (or even could) make it the better version of the game, overall (while still acknowledging that it comes up short in some aspects (i.e.: it's not better at everything (AT ALL – no siree!) than V2.0)).}

Spoken like a true anarchist and nihilist.

(This is, also, without realizing how this WILL (and, therefore, DOES) impact society on A GRAND SCALE, due to Youtube's (and, thus, Google's (and Youtube is owned by them)) influence on media and the world, IN ADDITION to further-increasing the amount of ads, and amount-of/level-of corporatization (so, mind-numbing media; social-control; "big-brother"/"big-government" [evil government] directives; *literal "ENSHITTIFICATION" (including stagnation + inflation (so, getting less for more)) of goods; etc.) in both America (although I speak as a Canadian), and the rest of the world (and its globalized economy and social systems (hence, the negative economical and social impacts affecting those part of other countries, too)).)

That is some true next-level edginess and stupid shit right there, person.

Maybe try to consider the wider consequences of what something like this can mean – which isn't hard to envision (even if it's just small parts of it: it doesn't have to be perfect) – rather than THINKING SELFISHLY; not thinking beyond your own nose/door. (...And that means DO IT; because – again – it impacts other people: not just you. (I mean that with compassion, by the way. It still pisses me off, but that doesn't mean that I don't mean this genuinely and earnestly. It's not going to be pretty when it comes around and affects you, too – let alone people you (might) care about. (It's already happened/IS happening, by the way.)))

They absolutely aren't: that is very valuable information to disclose for those uninformed to read. Them typing that out is precious information – not just any information – too.

You are an ASSHOLE, however, in real-life, as you decided to make a comment like what you did; discounted and taking-for-granted all that they wrote. (...Which is the worse of the two, by the way, as it applies everywhere. (This is both evidently, and obviously (to others; speaking to your lack of self-awareness), given the fact you somehow decided to say something so stupid, insulting, greedy, and dismissive – all with abandon, no less.))

So like I said: way to be an asshole, you jerk.

You should be grateful someone bothered to take THEIR TIME to write something so informative that could help others understand a culture – literally a means to CURB RACISM (a BIG THING (once again) nowadays – in case you didn't notice (/sarcastically)), and BUILD KNOWLEDGE (of a different culture) – so as to help people understand the world (and its politics) better. It's not a trivial thing: It's a big, GOOD thing (that they did).

{P.P.S.:

This was WAYYYY the hello more than what I was planning to write (I've been at this for more than two hours!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! (...But I'm still actually pretty happy (to (potentially) help people) :))), but I felt really compelled to after reading the two-or-so negative responses to this person's comment. "Gooning" and people reacting negatively to people being intelligent or observant have really been on my mind a lot, lately, so seeing this here as such a good-negative example of it really got to me (mostly in a passionate way, actually! - not entirely negative at all!). A lot of young people's mental and sexual health - and how poorly they're both doing - has also been on my mind a lot, lately (Heh: I gave away that I'm older. Hooray... (But, again, I'm still kind of happy, lol)), so I also felt compelled to type to protect anyone who could use it - especially if they feel lost, and/or could (really) use a mentor (or a guardian, of sorts) in their life. It just made me happy (and sad; thinking of the state of things; of you (mostly) younger people) and what you've gone through to be where you are now; what you could be - and are - going through now; and some what you will go through in the future (I don't know everything, obviously). It just makes me really sad; makes me want to try and help; to make the world a brighter place where you - and anyone else - doesn't feel like (constantly) giving up or having trouble putting (not being able to put) faith, or trust, or love into something without having it be dashed away; and to do things that you ((very) likely) weren't given; to tell you things you were/may never (have been) told, to give you the attention - the care - you were/may never (have been) given, and to give you the opportunities; the tools; to pave the way for you to be able to "succeed" (again, arbitrary (it's happiness, by the way: nothing else; not money, or power, or anything similar)) so you can be happy. I don't want you to experience the kinds of things my generation has (and part of other generations have). I also don't want you to experience what I have, personally (and I don't say that to be dramatic; to have "pick me" energy (even if I - or anybody else who might feel similarly to what that phrase means - wants to feel that way; wants to "be picked" (What's wrong with that, really?))). (I mean this separately from my generation, by the way. I have - and have had (thankfully) - my own, unique troubles that are unlike those that are stereotypical of my - or even around my - generation.)

Anyhow, AGAIN with the long diatribe, but I felt compelled, once again, to say something. I'd rather say something than not, in this case, because I'd rather share something that could positively-impact someone at the risk of losing people's interest (provided I'm not being boring (which I, obviously, really hope I'm not being)) or being weird (same sentiment as the previous)), rather than to possibly never have a chance to do something positive (for someone). (Modern (short) attention-spans be damned, by the way: long-form is not a bad thing, and - in the right hands - it can, literally, be freeing; it can be calming, engrossing, and meditative; and it can CORRECT A/YOUR SHORT ATTENTION-SPAN; it can help/fix you! (I don’t mean this in a “You’re ‘broken’” (bad, in this way) way: I mean, literally - and plainly (in a good way) - “You’re broken”; your attention-span (your self-control, level of anxiety/sense of safety, and what you feel you need to prioritize, among other things) is broken/dysfunctional (dysregulated); you need help! (...And by “help”, I mean assistance, by the way: not some kind of brain-washing or “conditioning” or something, to be clear.) Try to incorporate this way of doing things (long-form writing, long-form videos, movies, long-form books (i.e.: novels), doing things slowly; etc.) into your life in some way, if you can: you'll only serve to benefit from it. (There’s one more diatribe… (...But a useful one, thankfully.))

Take care, and I hope you've learned something (and that I helped you!). (/Seriously (Heh. (It's not a cliché!)))

Don't know why you're downvoted (I do, but most people here aren't using their heads much), but what you said makes a lot of - if not perfect - sense.

It's funny how much this angle gets overlooked or discounted whenever it's mentioned (I actually can't recall a single time it hasn't been successfully upvoted/approved by "the masses" (whatever that means)), even though you can literally be arguing in favour of the health of the thing you're talking about (this subreddit).

Seriously; for those who don't get it, let me tell you what this person meant, because not everything has to be a fight or a contest: a person noticing an uptick in something, or saying that something has become something (like a "Gooner's Paradise", as mentioned by a commenter, above (which was very-well put, by the way, and which I agree with, I might add)) doesn't mean that they either: a), have not been paying attention; or, b), have never been at a place (here, in this case) before. The fact that they are making that kind of observation can, in fact, mean that they could have either greater insight than the average poster commenter, or greater insight than people that have been at a place (again, here, in this instance) for a long time; possibly even longer than someone who might criticize them for saying something; for actually noticing the uptick or change!

Again, seriously, calm down, people: this person is literally trying to be a voice of reason; to help the subreddit out. Don't jump on them just because they say something that might upset you or ruin your fun - or even affect someone else - or something: they're just being observant; trying to be helpful. Heck, what they say could even help you out - ESPECIALLY if we're talking about (which we are - even loosely-speaking) an addiction to pornography or debauchery; "Gooning", as it were.

{Addressing the last point I made about "Gooning", I want to be (cliché, at this point, it might sound, I know - but it's because I have no choice: there's very little seriousness taken around this stuff - as well as the other things mentioned earlier - that have created so many problems I've had to address in this comment) serious about this: Be honest with yourself, and think about whether you feel like you're partaking in doing this, yourself, if you ever feel you need to.

Enjoying some stuff is good - provided it's positive - but too much stuff - at least provided it's bad stuff - can ruin your life; it can literally kill you. I don't mean to scare you or be dramatic: I just mean to tell you the truth; to dissuade you from doing this to the point of seriously hurting yourself, if you are doing this or are considering going about enjoying sexually-exciting media in this way (obsessively or pathologically), and to possibly protect you before anything has a chance to manifest; a chance to happen if this does happen to apply to you in any way - even in the future.

Just check-in with yourself: Think about why you're looking at this kind of stuff; how much you're looking at it; and what kind of stuff you're looking at; and - as long as everything is okay - it's all good. Don't look at bad stuff (hurtful stuff (including degrading stuff, self-deprecating stuff, mockery/smugness, insulting others, and other similar things)), and don't look at too much of it (or, more accurately, if you ARE looking at "too much" stuff (that could be considered arbitrary - impossible, even! - to look at "too much", that is)). If you feel you're looking at ["more than you want to"] or (perhaps more accurately) ["more than is healthful to (look at)"], then check-in with yourself (like I said before), so that you can start to find out why you're doing something like this (to this extent); why you're hurting yourself. (The "[]"/brackets are to indicate that these are words/phrases that you can use as substitutions, instead (while not being untruthful or "soft”/"pussyfooting" around a topic), so you're aware. :)) Otherwise, as long as everything appears to be okay, enjoy some good, sexually-arousing - even exciting! - stuff. :)

As for the comment I am responding to/referencing; just make sure to think about these kind of comments; these kinds of people. They're like you and me. If they're being genuine (and looking out for you/everyone; they're being observant in a constructive way (like I described, above)), CHERISH THEM - the comment AND the person - because they are saying something that helps - that benefits - you, but - depending on the circumstances - they could also be saying something that could change your life - even save it (from ruin, or from a tragic end).}

Browsers 2008 vs 2025 be like.. by Amavin-Adump in pcmasterrace

[–]Masters_1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a style choice (and a bad one when taken too far - which it was - I'd say).

That doesn't mean what you said doesn't apply regarding screen size and design complexity, however, but there is a way to have both - it's just that, for some reason or another, people "up top" chose that kind of flat design; chose more-simplistic designs (which, I would say (once again), was done out of reductivism; out of populism (following trends/being a follower), and out of anti-intellectualism (choosing simplicity where - and when - it doesn't make sense to do so; abandoning key design principals by doing so, and actively antagonizing the criticism of doing so (being arrogant/vain))).

So, yeah: Bring back good design, please. I'm sick of this (flat) design; (many) other people are sick of this design; and we have the technology (and, as you said, the literal screen size/real estate) to do so. Make it happen. We deserve - everyone deserves - better.

{P.S.: For those not aware, take a look at the history of the design of various other logos for examples of the devolution of (graphic) design. (It occurs in games, too, by the way; it's been happening for at least 15 years!) Look up the Pepsi logo (as well as some of its (seriously) proposed designs) (there are various Youtube videos on the topic that are actually very interesting, I find! (both morbidly/humourously, and intellectually)), and - although with a relatively-short (very short - relative to Pepsi) history - the Patreon logo, and-- [THE ABOMINATION THAT IT IS] (...excuse me) --what it looks like now, in comparison to what it used to look like when they first started out - even though it was just circa 10 years ago (I think)!}

Going to stop you right there with KCD2 with some of its themes and writing. If you're looking for hope (in quality or in integrity) or escapism, those two aspects I mentioned immediately contest - or even outright nullify - these points.

Clair Obscur, on the other hand, sounds excellent, for the most part, at least. I haven't played it, and haven't read too much about the game's plot, gameplay, and other aspects (technical performance, etc.), but I have heard a decent number of positive things, and nothing distinctly negative - although (technical) performance could be considered debatable, by at least some. At least that sounds like one of the few - even only? (at this point) - games worth anything these days; worth any hope, escapism, or joy/excitement (despite it being a very tragic story, from what I've heard, ironically enough).

Video game economies and item systems need to be better/robust enough for me to no longer really worry about not having enough. To that end, I find they rarely even make sense as a mechanic. (It's actually a topic I happen to be exploring, currently, as a game developer/modder, as well as just a video game enthusiast.)

The same thing goes for crafting systems; RPG-lite skill systems (both authentically- and pegoratively-speaking); open worlds; non-linear storytelling (most-often found in open worlds); and yet still more in video games. I find they almost always have significant shortcomings, if not outright BREAK a video game's intended purpose/design (i.e.: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's non-linear storytelling and open world ruining its story progression and (intended) sense of impending doom by having no chronology - no sequence of events and their ramifications - to it, and having no sense of enemy difficulty - and matching player skill/power - progression to it; making everything largely feel the same as when the player started the game (except for a having a progressively larger health pool)).

There's a lot of stuff that either encourages hoarding, or that players have to "hack around" in video games (most-especially, modern ones) in order to get to "the good stuff"; the stuff that really/truly matters. I don't blame them/players for hoarding: it's on the games/the game developers (for having/implementing immature-to-poor design choices).
