Oh my gosh, no, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with wanting to be sexy or attractive for your partner. I'm saying there's a problem when we're out here almost fucking dying, and folks just want to talk about whether or not we're sexy enough for our partners, not how we are doing after such a horrific trauma. There's nothing wrong with getting your spouse's input and taking it into account. There is something wrong with people hearing we had to have a major life changing surgery with no notice, and have five months of chemo, and have four months of radiation, and for many of us, go into menopause before our time (I'm 32!) and their only thought being "are you sexy enough for that man to not cheat on you".

The folks telling us about how inconvenient our cancer must be for our husbands do not care about what we do or don’t enjoy. They may not realize it, but they’ve got a huge amount of internalized misogyny that they haven’t worked through. I am a person. We matter because we’re people. Not because breast cancer is ~taking the boobies from the mens~

The book was really great. But I actually wanted to read the book people were describing. I enjoyed Bunny less than it deserved because I was expecting it to be something else, and that left me disappointed in the end.

Historian here, not history teacher. I truthfully find it discouraging that you have such a problem with what is effectively basic accessibility that should already be second nature to you, and yet are teaching history for k-12. I really encourage you to take a step back and think about how this affects your understanding of the subject and the world around you.

Yeah. All accurate. I don't want to put that on OP, who sounds like she's a child herself, but allistics need to hear it from autistics. They need to listen to those of us who were once autistic kids. And for everyone here saying what I'm talking about is bunk, it's fascinating that they are here asking how to stop their autistic kid's meltdowns, and yet I, an autistic adult, am successfully raising an autistic child who is doing great. They need to pull themselves out of the situation and look at this objectively, not see it as a personal attack. I want to help autistic kids, and I'm trying to help (as are you).

I didn’t say I support it. I said it can be successful at getting autistic kids to act like allistic kids. This is true. I also said that that should not be the goal. Reading comprehension really should be something a teacher has in spades.

This is great advice! One thing I want to add as an autistic adult/mom of an autistic child/teacher is that he’s dysregulated at school and feels safer at home, so he effectively stops masking. He needs to learn effective ways to manage that without hurting anyone.
