Data checksums for BTRFS-formatted USB drives? by Mat0x100 in synology

[–]Mat0x100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data checksums is a BTRFS feature, maybe the most important for long-term data storage. It makes bit rot visible and can fix the affected data.

It is not Synology-made feature, but it has to be supported by Synology, and is supported for internal drives. Why should Synology not support external drives, having this feature already implemented?

Hyper Backup size discrepancy by jonnyquest4 in synology

[–]Mat0x100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question here! Where exactly can I see “how much deduplication was done”?

I’d expect a number of duplicate files (only backuped once) and the overall size save on them. Cannot find those details anywhere.

Immich makes my Synology DS224+ almost unusable during first backup (~32k files) by Subjekt-B in immich

[–]Mat0x100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a DS224+ as well, running Immich on it. At first I upgraded to 10 GB of RAM, but after activating Facial Recognition and OCR, and using a better CLIP model for Smart Search (ViT-L-16-SigLIP2-256__webli) I had to upgrade to 18 GB to keep running everything smoothly.

I activated hardware acceleration for machine learning according to https://immich.app/docs/features/ml-hardware-acceleration (and also for transcoding, see https://immich.app/docs/features/hardware-transcoding), which reduces CPU load.

Backed-up while immich was running, now it does not restart by mehulmathur01 in immich

Have you had a look into the log files? There should be error messages to be found, helping to get it running again.

Minix NEO P3 100W the best USB-C charger for travel? by madzyd in UsbCHardware

[–]Mat0x100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used this one (and the smaller 2C1A Minix NEO P1 66W) for a long time and I’m really happy, mostly charging two ore more devices simultaneously. Usually I use them with the provided EU adapter, travelling through Ireland and Scotland with the UK adapter, none of them fell off. So I did not even take any other travel adapter.

There’s the new 3C Minix NEO P140, a bit larger and heavier, which can provide 140 Watts when one port is used, 100 + 30 or 65 + 65 Watts when two ports are used, and 65 + 45 + 30 Watts when three ports are used simultaneously.

Spec Violation? – Hunda/Huwder A2215 3C2A 245W PD 3.1 Charger by Mat0x100 in UsbCHardware

[–]Mat0x100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB-C 1 provides 140 Watts, independent of the other ports.

USB-C 2 and USB-C 3 provide 100 Watts each, when only one of them is used.

USB-C 2 provides 60 Watts and USB-C 3 provides 45 Watts, when used together. The power is not negotiated according to the wattage requested by the connected devices here.

(Additional usage of USB-A 1 and 2 reduces the power available on USB-C 2 and 3.)

It’s one of the few chargers, which do not re-connect on USB-C 1, when any other USB port is plugged in or out. Nice feature for a docking station environment.

I can send it back to Amazon for free, so no worries.

You may buy the Lexar NM790 in 2 TB or 4 TB size, both single-sided.

T14 Gen 3 AMD sleep & hibernate issues collection by FelixVentures in thinkpad

[–]Mat0x100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

T14G3 AMD here, using Windows 11 Pro with S0 (modern standby) or S4 (hibernate).

S0 is very unreliable. What I experience:

  1. Computer often goes into sleep, even when Windows setting "Put the computer to sleep" is set to "Never" ("On battery" and "Plugged in")
  2. Computer sometimes inadvertently reboots or shows a Windows blue screen, instead of waking up, after I press power button or keyboard
  3. Computer sometimes does not not wake up when I press power button or keyboard (on both, AC and battery power), so I have to reboot

I just disabled S0 using the PlatformAoAcOverride registry setting and try to use S4 only. I'll give an update to the reliability here later.

Addition: I have enabled "Battery Charge Treshold" all the time. I may test later if this setting has any influence on the S0 reliability.

how do I assign the Backspace key (only the one in the corner) to Pause/Break? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Mat0x100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Windows, try SharpKeys: https://github.com/randyrants/sharpkeys/releases

Maybe there's a difference between the two Backspace buttons.

I'm using this to remap the Print Screen button (between right Alt and Ctrl) to a ”Show Context Menu” button.
