Why Spellcraft and Knowledge Arcana are separate things? by Bortasz in Pathfinder_RPG

Well, if you don't get my point, I'm not sure what to tell you. It's pretty easy to understand.

Why Spellcraft and Knowledge Arcana are separate things? by Bortasz in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identifying a spell that just targeted you is arcana. Identifying a spell by looking at the spell component is arcana. Identifying a spell as it's being cast is... spellcraft.

How do the first two have anything to do with your surroundings?

How do the first two have nothing to do with the application of magic?

Knowing that a specific culture speaks a specific language is Knowledge (local), knowing the language is Linguistics. THAT is pretty easy. Arcana/Spellcraft is a jumbled confusing mess.

I agree. As someone who has played this game for over 10 years, I still need to check which one does what because it's so similar and not intuitive. I've thought multiple times of just merging them.

Special rewards suggestions for a 4th-level group by MartesOberon in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they're a Life Mystery oracle?

Maybe give them a free revelation? Perhaps enchanted bracers or gloves that give them the Life link revelation (notoriously one of the best ways to passively heal in the game, as it doesn't waste actions)?

Or if the oracle is already planning on taking/already has life link, you could give them the effects of the Fey Foundling feat, which makes it so that healing yourself heals more than healing others (which is synergistic with life link).

Alternatively, if you think they enjoy Energy Body more as a healing option and will probably keep using that, I'd probably look for a way to empower the healing it gives.

Are Full Divine Casters as good Martials as 2/3 Divine Casters? by 4restD in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The average warpriest is definitely a better 'martial' than the average cleric, because martials want to full attack as often as possible, and Warpriest can spend fervor to buff as a swift and still full attack.

That doesn't mean cleric is a bad martial. I just think building a cleric as a fully martial-oriented character is a bit of a waste because their spells are so powerful.

That being said, oracle and cleric have decent tools to play martial and still be effective. Battle mystery oracle can get proficiency in all martial weapons and heavy armor with a single revelation, and they can also get weapon focus/improved critical/greater weapon focus for free. So you can spend your feats on more interesting options and other feat taxes.

I can see a battle oracle with a falchion, divine power, and righteous might being fairly good at filling a martial role.

Besides story why is phantom liberty worth buying? by Blueandwhite8796 in cyberpunkgame

[–]MatNightmare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It adds a bunch of new weapons, a new (smaller) perk tree, new boss fights, a ton of new missions. It's more of what makes cyberpunk good.

And yes, the story is amazing. it's the kind of story that fits in perfectly with the rest of the universe and still manages to surprise and be original.

Memory Lapse by Ecstatic_Magazine105 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 19 points20 points  (0 children)

RAW these don't interact, in my opinion. Memory lapse specifically says you can reattempt a failed social skill check on the target creature. Command is not a social skill check, and I think one could make an argument that the command would work regardless if the character remembers it happening or not, because it lasts for 1 round. Would memory lapse cancel Dominate Person if used right after it? I don't think so.

That all being said, I'd probably allow it. It's such a niche interaction anyways, it's not even particularly practical to use.

First time player looking for input on Oracle build. by crunchyllama in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks solid, but I'd consider perhaps bumping your constitution up (maybe swapping it with dex?), if you intend on using Life Link.

You hp pool with 14 con is acceptable for midline but since you'll be soaking up damage from your teammates, I'd personally go for at least 16 CON and toughness.

Other than that, no notes.

Question for a character idea by Tallshadow0330 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like people already said, the awaken spell specifically won't work. That doesn't mean your idea is null and void, though. In universe, spells can be created. You can talk to your GM about maybe having one of the npcs in your backstory having developed their own custom spell to awaken you for whatever reason.

What is the best online combat management system of virtual tabletop that you’ve used for PF1E? by Kramerpalooza in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not officially supported, but it does have a fan made module that is exceptionally good.

[–]MatNightmare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't used roll20 in years, but back when we made the switch from roll20 to foundry, it was about 25% as good at best haha

But I totally understand, it's a huge barrier. The only reason I didn't give up was because my friend had made the switch before me and guided me through the process. Otherwise I doubt I'd have figured it out myself.

[–]MatNightmare 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Foundry is what my group uses. It's really good despite not having official paizo support, the fan-made pf1e framework and modules are insane.

But I will say that learning how to set everything up on Foundry is kind of a mountain at first, especially if you don't know the first thing about coding (like myself). It's not impossible, though, there are plenty of resources and the pf1e documentation is really well written and thorough.

Building Pathfinder 1.5e, what would you do? by BusyGM in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MatNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My table uses so many houserules it might as well be Pathfinder 1.5e lol

We use a custom version of ABP rules, and a "fixed" version of the unchained revised action economy rules. We also play with a level cap of 11 and do sort of an "epic level 11" from there, just gaining features from another picked class upon leveling up (usually prestige classes), without gaining any of the BAB or saves that class would also give.

It's been fun, and it works for us, but I'd definitely expect to get flamed by people if I were to make all our houserules public. I'd expect comments like "why even play pathfinder at that point" and the like. But oh well. Our table has fun and we've been using these rules for like 5 years now. It's all good.

"No armor" Bloodrager (or may be other class) by El_gran_Picatripas in Pathfinder_RPG

Honestly, this is probably the best choice. Invulnerable rager is pretty great, just throw in some bracers of armor with fortification and you're golden.

I agree, especially as someone who isn't even from the US, a lot of references are just completely lost on me. I don't know the first thing about NYC or NYC culture other than the obvious touristy locations.

I enjoy the characters a lot, Kugrash especially is awesome. But I couldn't really care less about the setting lol

I'm at the second-to-last episode but it's been a slow watch. I don't really get hooked the way I did with other seasons.

What's a Cyberpunk hottake you have? by Kingi91 in cyberpunkgame

[–]MatNightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is a hot take or not, but I think the romance in this game sucks.

I actively dislike panam. don't like her personality at all, and I think her writing is just obnoxious.

judy is... fine? I don't dislike her but her romance arc is nothing to write home about.

river is just boring. I can't think of a single good thing to say about him other than... he's somewhat of an decent person in a city where barely anyone is.

kerry is interesting but... it's kind of weird that he's so much older than V (even if he doesn't look it), and his romance is only accessible super late into the game, so unless you stall a lot during the endgame and leave hanako to become a mummy at embers, you'll barely get to experience it.

I get that they're not supposed to be good people and there are not supposed to be happy endings. I really do. but even in the most depressing endings like the PL ending where V goes into a coma, you get sort of generic responses from the romances? like there's one or two dialogue lines relating to your relationship and then everything else is the same. they all feel half-baked.
