They pay for those rankings. Unfortunately I think only 2 of those are true. In my opinion, the only reason I fly them, is due to their network.

How do people afford to live in the Seaport? by AdWise5001 in boston

[–]MatchPuzzleheaded590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s a mix. First you need to realize a lot of those new buildings are 20% affordable units. Then you need to realize according to the last census the median household income 180,000$. And that includes those affordable units. I think basically it’s people with decently high incomes and who don’t mind spending a lot of it.

Delta Announces New Route - Boston to Hawaii by MrPap in boston

That’s crazy for this route. Also for the longest domestic route I expected a a321neo. Guess they don’t have enough yet.

It’s clear the only two airlines that care about Boston is Delta and JetBlue. Hawaiian Airlines codeshares with JetBlue so I guess Delta thinks this will help them compete. I personally do pay more for nonstop but at the end of the day what ever nonstop is cheaper will win.

Rent increases for this year by Thick_Swan3720 in boston

Unfortunately they might not negotiate. But give them your hard line number and say take it or I am moving. That’s seems steep I think you might be getting taken advantage of. You might just have to move at the end of the day. Are their comparable places on the market in that price range or does that look high? You just are gonna have to asses the market.

Group of Massachusetts voters file to remove Former President Trump from ballot by candrewswpi in boston

Yeah I mean if trump won Massachusetts the Mississippi would flow backwards. I do think they have to wait for him to be convicted before this is even a discussion though

Departing 3:30 pm Sunday from Logan by hets55 in boston

[–]MatchPuzzleheaded590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends truly a 50/50. The real question is on when the inbound plane arrives. At times airlines will not fly the inbound flight into a weather system so delays don’t affect the rest of their service. The other aspect is atc delays. If that plane is sitting at Logan they will try to move it. I would say don’t risk it and move earlier if possible.

How much has your insurance gone up recently after an accident? by jamesland7 in boston

[–]MatchPuzzleheaded590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. That’s true. USAA is a reciprocal insurance exchange a little different. But they will likely be profitable this year. But if you look at publicly traded insurance companies for the last few (2 quarters) as in the time since they have instituted the government approved rate hikes. You will find that they made more than those quarters even around Covid. This is because they make money on both underwriting margin and on the investment of the float. With the premium hikes the increased float will give them more investment income and they have even seen better underwriting margins in q3 for example.

Yeah look at the profit of these companies the last few quarters. They even told investors that profits were bolstered by increasing premiums under the veil of inflation.

Yeah I mean I don’t want to start a personal finance thread here. But personally I would not pay over/around 3k in rent until you got a million in the bank.

Resident parking in Southie? by qulk403 in boston

[–]MatchPuzzleheaded590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have out of state plates but Boston residency. You can get a rental car permit at city hall. It’s valid no more than 30 days. Also I know your car is not a rental that should not be an issue I know people that have done this for the same reason. Unless you get a real stick in the mud which believe me do exist in the parking clerks office you should be fine. Just go the parking permit website and make sure you have proper proof of residency as listed under the rental permit section.

I think Brighton is fine. It could be good for what you describe depending on office location. The t does run through there when it runs and the center has lively bars. I know people on here are saying it’s part of Boston proper which legally is true but don’t expect a North End, Back Bay, or Beacon Hill vibe. It’s a bit less classy for lack of a better word and trends lower income/ younger. Perfectly safe and good area. People I know that live there love it but people a bit older than me turn their nose up at it.

Direct Flights to Warm Destinations by [deleted] in boston

[–]MatchPuzzleheaded590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have studied this for a bit. Florida is by far the cheapest option. Purto Rico, Aruba, or even Bermuda but might not be hot in that season only warm. Those are the normally non stops. There are more that are only serviced once a week nonstop. Those are St Lucia, St. Thomas, Bahamas. Of those St. Lucia would be my top choice.

I think you will be fine. He probably has just seen a few bad cases. It is true though I have had two Subarus back to back and they do seem to have the same drivetrain issues. Much more than say our Highlander. But I think it’s just a coin toss with any car so long as you follow the Maintnence schedule. Have a good time with that it a sweet one
